I've lived in Fresno my whole life and somehow didn't visit Forestiere Underground Gardens until…read morelast year. that is a mistake I genuinely regret. one man hand carved an underground world beneath the San Joaquin Valley over decades and you can walk through it. the fact that this exists here and most Fresno locals have never been is wild to me. the tunnels, the rooms, the skylights that let in just enough light to grow citrus trees underground. it sounds impossible until you're standing in it. the tour guides are great. ours knew the history inside and out and made the whole thing feel like a story rather than a lecture. you leave actually knowing who Baldasare Forestiere was and why he did what he did and it sticks with you. its not a long visit but its a full one. I was genuinely moved in a way I didn't expect from a Saturday afternoon activity in Fresno. bring people who are visiting from out of town. bring people who've lived here forever. this is the kind of place that makes you see your own city differently and that doesn't happen often. if you haven't been, go soon. and if you have been, you already understand why I felt the need to write this.

My boyfriend is very interested in exploring different caves & caverns and I thought this would be a fun weekend getaway for us. There is a long trail down to the mouth of the cave, the decent is not too bad, but it is quite a trek back up. The trail is about half a mile to the cave opening and half a mile back up. When you check in for your tour (tickets are not sold at the cave and must be purchased in advance) they go over some safety information and tour information. The staff has you cleanse the soles of your shoes prior to heading down to the cave to help prevent white nose syndrome to the bats that inhabit the cave. On the trail down there are many beautiful sights including waterfalls. I would recommend stopping at the sights on the way back up when breaks from the steep trail will be needed. The trail back up is not the most difficult we have endured, but it is up there on the list due to the steepness of the path. There is a large area at the mouth of the cave for the tour group to gather with the guide who is waiting at the gate for you. No items besides cameras and plastic water bottles are permitted within the cave and must be left outside the gate during your 50 minute cave tour. There is a large gate that the guide will unlock and you will walk through to enter the cave. The gate is a huge spiderweb with a large spider in the center, it was really wicked. Crystal Cave has crystal clear water running through it, you could see the marble that is natural there that the water has washed out over the years, as well as many stalagmites & stalactites, cave bacon, cave popcorn and many other interesting formations that have taken hundreds of thousands of years to form. Among the many caverns & caves we have toured this one was very different with the marble and flowing water within. Shirley was our tour guide, and though she was new she was so passionate and knowledgeable about the cave!

We thought this would take a week but it took 3 days - those goats take their work seriously. The good: -Billie and the goats and dogs (and emu) are all delightful. Billie was extremely accommodating and hard working. The goats and dogs are absolute sweethearts and all come running when they see you for pets. -Poison oak is now extinct on my property. -The ground is fertilized and there is nothing to clean up other than sticks. The bad: -Noise. The "baaa"-ing was one thing, but the guard dogs were pretty brutal through the night. We had some coyotes hanging around so there was lots of barking. So that's it, thanks for following. I'm really happy to finally be able to present this and I'm actively brainstorming on how we can get a goat co-op going in our neighborhood.

Without a cell phone connection, there is no GPS connection. Make sure you have a full tank of gas and download the offline map first. We planned to meet at the King Canyon visitor center, but learned we needed to go to the Boyden Cavern visitor center instead. From the King Canyon Visitor Center to Boyden Cavern, it is another 45-minute drive on a windy route. Luckily, we arrived on time and checked in. While waiting, the views are stunning, and the tour lasts approximately 30 to 40 minutes. It's really nice inside the cave, the temperature within the cave is around 50 degrees, which feels cool and pleasant. When visiting Sequoia National Park, Boyden Cavern is a must-see attraction.

When we got there, the door was locked but they opened for us and we were the only visitors at that time. They turned the lights on and we got to explore on our own. It was amazing to see the different farming equipment over time. It was cool that these were donated to the museum. Some equipment we were able to climb on and touch and others not but it was a great experience. There was also an area where they had information about dairy farms. We learned how they get the milk and how they process it. It was cool that they had a fake cow and you were able to try to milk it to see how the milk pump works! (It seemed a lot nicer and gentler than the breastmilk pumps ) It was fun and if you are in town I would recommend you visit this place. It's good for families with kids but also adults if you are curious to learn more about farming (the history of farming).
