I only come here for food when my friend or I get coupons for the restaurants here. The casino is ok, it is not very crowded at the game tables or slot machines every time I am there. There are complimentary coffee and tea which you can help yourself. One the of restaurants or lounge has a dance floor where you can see people (usually much older people) dancing. Quite neat to see them doing some ballroom dancing moves. What I really dislike is the random (or maybe not so random) profiling of customers to check the ID. I find that I always get checked when certain males are on duty, then they will try to strike a conversation with me by saying oh you don't look your age and other cheesy crappy lines. First time I came here I would of given this place a 2. It seemed run down. They were in the middle of renovations, and lots of the machines had been moved off to the side in the middle, creating a huge cluster .... Well they have completed Reno's, and it looks great ! Good food at the pub (see review) with bonus trivia night ( that I took second place ! ) The casino was filled with friendly staff. From Customer service, to the door security, the cash cage and the bar tender. All super nice and helpful. I think the newer brighter look affected their sunny disposition! There's always a line up but the wait times are only around 20 minutes if you get there early. There's the 2 for 1 buffet (great deal) coupon you can get when swiping your Starlight card, which makes it worth coming for. My sister and I gave coupon and entered at 4PM after lunch buffet closure at 2. We killed some time by heading back to Value Village and went back to make on time for our early dinner. Selection isn't THAT great. Having been to River Rock I really like the food and the selection they have. Selection is limited at Starlight, whereas most place have bigger selections for dinner. Soups, icecream, cream puffs and stirfried chicken were great. You can also get some tea, coffee and soda (Coca Cola freestyle fountain machine gets you anything from Canada Dry, Fanta etc). Went to their Salt & Pepper Cafe for the buffet. Wow, this place is surprisingly mediocre. There is a salad bar with 3 types of salad (corn being one of them), and 8 or so entrees. As for the entrees.. Corn - yes, corn. This is entree corn, and not salad corn. The salad corn is covered with some tangy dressing. Not the entree one. Rice - served Western-style, but it clumped together like an Asian dish. Potatoes - small spuds cut in half, with little bits of herbs sprinkled throughout. A bit too bland for my liking. It does taste exactly as described though. Penne pasta - tasted literally like Chef Boyardee. This could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your palate. I thought it was the former. Yum. Salmon with hollandaise sauce - nice large fillets (they don't skimp on the fish), but boy is it overcooked. As dry as canned tuna. Be sure to pile on the sauce. Some of my friends couldn't finish their pieces. Chicken - some kind of sweet soy sauce (reminds me of Asian style). Again, overcooked to the point of dryness. Sigh. Pork roast with applesauce - this one was completely hit and miss. Some pieces are nice and juicy, while others were so dry, they fell into bits like sand when poked. Pile on the applesauce to be safe. I had a 30% success rate with this dish. Roast beef - same problem with the dryness depending on the hunk of meat being served, but I had more of a 60% success. The secret to this one is to time your food gathering session - wait until you see some pink exposed (as opposed to brown) on the cow. My success rate went way up with this change in strategy. Drinks are free and bottomless, thanks to the fountain machine. Sadly, I don't think I can really recommend this buffet. For this price, you can go to Uncle Willy's instead. At least you still get that famous ice cream and fried chicken. read more

This review is specifically for The Buffet inside Starlight Casino. We had a 2 for 1 coupon so we decided to give this place a try on Saturday. We arrived at 7:15 PM and paid at the front before entering. The normal price is $21, so with the coupon, it was pretty much $10.50 per person.The restaurant was small but 80% of the tables were occupied already. We really wanted to sit in a booth just so it would be quiet when we chatted. We were refused twice by one of the workers (those who come around and take your plates away) because she said the booths were reserved for 4 people and it might get busy later at night. As a result, we chose a small table nearby. However, when I returned from the buffet, my friend was sitting at a booth. She said that the worker let her sit there because she saw how much we wanted to sit there. Okay, onto the actual buffet. Let me tell you this, it is definitely not worth going at the full price. I was so disappointed at the small selection of food they offered. The whole buffet probably look less than 20 steps to finish. Alright, there was the basic salad bar, then two kinds of soup (beef and veggies, and tomato bisque). The potato salad was good, almost tastes like those one could get at Safeway. The coleslaw I had was sour, so I was disappointed. Then there were 5 kinds of Chinese food: fried rice, chow mein, shrimp and peas, variety of steamed vegetables (bok choy, Chinese lettuce, etc.), and some sort of glazed pork. I skipped the fried rice and chow mein or shrimps with pea because they didn't look good. The vegetables were hard to bite into, and the pork were so tasteless I didn't even know what flavour they were supposed to taste like. On the western side, there were mashed potatoes, some sort of pasta, basa fillet, chicken drumsticks, and a carving station (beef and pork). I skipped the mashed potatoes because it looked really dry. I tried a piece of the basa fillet but it was cold and the meat was hard. The best was probably the carved meat. The dessert bar looked promising but I was wrong. I tried a lemon bar, two bite brownie, mixed berry square and some sort of fudge thing. The lemon bar was way too soft, and almost melted as soon as I tried to chew it. The brownie and the fudge were very dry, which had me sipping on my drink after each bite. The mixed berry square was so sweet that I had a tingling sensation in my jaw as I chewed. Finally, there was a soft serve machine beside the pop machine. I was expected at least two flavours, but unfortunately, they only had vanilla. But I will say that the vanilla ice cream was pretty good. I probably will not return for the buffet. read more

Has an older style aesthetic feel to it, rather than some of the more contemporary places in BC. The standard casino games are available. They have $5 Blackjack which is a hit with those who are on a budget. I finished a bottle of Heineken beer I bought at the bar and security would not let me take the empty bottle away to recycle. I said "It's empty!" and the guard who snatched it out of my hands at the exit simply walked away and ignored me without explanation. Surely they have no right to do that without refunding the bottle deposit which is included in your payment. It's not about the money, but rather the principle. It's not illegal to carry an *empty* container of alcohol in public, or else every binner carrying sacks of them around would be in violation. Maybe someone wants to bring a souvenir home-- what grounds do they have to prevent the customer from doing that so long as they have paid for their drink? Had a bad experience at the Starlight Buffet today. First I was greeted from the cashier, "What do you want?". Then there was no seating. Sat down at a an uncleared table. Found out someone was still using that table so had to move. Then I found a table for two in the middle of rows of tables, put my napkins, fork & knife down. I then went to the salad bar and came back and my table was taken by someone else. Ok now I'm scrabbling around with my plate of food again looking for a table. On the left side of the room there was 5 tables put together for seating of 20 which was all empty. Then i looked over & saw 2 small tables put together in the corner. i put my plate down & proceed to move the 2nd table 3 inches apart & sat down with my food. I was just taking a bite and the same cashier came running up to me, "that's a table for 4, you can't sit there!" I explained I was moved out of my table on the other side & where should i sit? She scowled & blurt "Ok, you can sit there". ... and finally to top off the meal I found a foil wrapper from some ones candy in my turkey ala king. Yuck!! I took my dad for his 82nd birthday. We went to buffet for Brunch. Pancakes were shaped liked a Pringle they were so hard, waffles were rocks and so was french toast. Bacon was laying in all grease. I usually don't hang out at casinos, so I surprised myself when my dad asked if I wanted to go and I said yes. To be fair, my brother wanted to go to check out The Famous Players (the band that regularly plays here) and it was his birthday. So what the birthday boy asks for, he shall get. We made the drive from Granville Island after dinner, and surprisingly for a Friday night we were able to find parking right away. We walked in and found a table on the outskirts of the bar and grabbed a seat. I bought a round of drinks for my dad and brother and again surprisingly didn't have to wait for very long. They have quite a few classic beer selections on tap and all the basic well liqours. I grabbed myself a Somersby on tap and my dad a Stella (his fave). It was a bit overpriced ($28 + tip for 3 drinks), but I didn't expect them to be cheap since it is a casino. The bar is located right in the middle of the casino, right next to the stage and dance floor, so it's pretty hard to miss. There were plenty of people hanging around listening to the cover-band, dancing away, having few drinks. It had a bit of an upscale lounge feel to it. We didn't get any food while we were here, but I hear they have a buffet with simple selections. I decided I wanted to try my luck on the slots machines, so I found my way over to a machine that had the prettiest pictures and plopped down on the chair. I spent about 20 minutes at the slot machines and only ended up losing $7. So I'd say it wasn't too shabby. Game-wise, they have plenty of slots and table-game options -- blackjack, craps, roulette, and more. If clubbing or the bars aren't your scene then I'd say Starlight a fun place to grab a drink, gamble a few dollars away, listen to some fun live music and go dancing. read more

What is nice about this casino is that it has huge flatscreens everywhere! You can always catch the latest score on that Canucks game as you're busy gambling. The style is very reminiscent of Planet Hollywood in Vegas. Being located relatively tucked away from public transportation and in a newly developing area (Queen's Landing) makes this a great place to go and avoid the larger casino crowds. If someone suggests going drinking and dancing at the Starlight Casino, I'll go along for the free cover and big dance floor. Even if I might grumble at the strictly basic bar offerings and basic-bro crowd, I'll probably have fun. The buffet, however, serves some truly mediocre food. It's really just blah steam-table fare, with about as much flavour and texture as steam itself. The pasta in particular was quite horrible - overcooked penne in unseasoned tomato sauce. The only fun thing is the Coke machine that lets you concoct all kinds of flavour combos in your pop, but even that had "unavailable" selections. The buffet at its sister casino, The Grand Villa in Burnaby, is much better, so I'm not sure why the Starlight Casino's kitchen can't turn out edible food. If you're coming here, I'd suggest making a right turn when you're entering and eating at the pub or one of the Chinese restaurants on site instead. read more

On June 2, 2018 I hosted my wedding in the Keg Room. I cannot say enough about Matt and his team. They were helpful, accommodating, and just the nicest group I have ever worked with. The food was amazing and all the guests could not say enough about how good the food was. Leading up to the event, I met with Matt and Chris (the chef) to go over everything and when the day arrived everything was the way it was suppose to be. I went to a restaurant at the Starlight Casino in New Westminster on November 05, 2022. That night the credit card payment machine was acting up that night and I was charged $293.57 twice in error. I have visited the casino in person and I have written several emails trying to resolve the matter. Despite the casinos claims that they noticed the duplicate charge and fixed it that night, that is not the case. My credit card statement clearly shows that I was charged twice and the credit card company has stated that in fact I was charged twice and the casino has not issued any credit or reversal of the duplicate charge. If any reversal of the duplicate charge had indeed it would have clearly shown up on my credit card statement by now, January 25, 2023. Clearly there is something astray in their accounting or payment handling systems. It does not do me any good if they keep saying they fixed the problem and only charged me once, when credit card statement shows clearly that I was charged twice. I feel very let down. After dinner at the Boathouse, my bf took me dancing at the Starlight Casino RedBar Lounge. During dinner, I had mentioned twice that I felt like dancing after dinner and he said something that didn't seem to elude that we were going to go. When he drove across the Queensburough Bridge, I thought he had gone the wrong way when he was going to take me home. We ended up at the Casino and it still didn't click to me that we were going to go dancing until we approached RedBar Lounge. The bf told me that he had planned the night to take me to listen to live music since I love listening to live music! There was a live band going on called the Luv Shak and they played awesomely well. From rock to pop to ultra classic songs, Luv Shak was able to lure a large crowd onto the dance floor. We ordered some drinks and left our belongings at a table that we shared with a man who was in his late 40's. He kept staring at us (likes to people watch or couple watch to be more specific) so when our drinks finally arrived, we took one sip and dashed to the dance floor to avoid the awkward stare. The group of people on the dance floor were from their early 40's to their late 60's and let me tell you, some knew how to boogy down! They looked like they were having fun with the music and this made the environment amazing! You have people doing the jives, line dancing, disco dancing, etc. - it was just fantastic!! Again, although I was under-dressed because of casual fridays at work, I had an awesome time! And nobody cared what you wore! A fantastic way to end the day! read more

They only serve beer, didn't know this until we we're already sitting down so we could have gotten a real drink before but whatever when there's nothing else, one drinks beer. Going right to left, salad, not chopped, 2 gross dressings, which I skipped, thousand islands and a vinaigrette, canned beets which were tasteless and even the colour was off, then carrots sticks and a couple other things that I would never eat, cold potato salad and macaroni salad. Both gross, and my hubby is not picky. Then they had rice, chow main, (was ok) mashed potatoes, corn, fried fish, which was surprisingly good, but no tartar sauce. Who serves fish with no tartar or ketchup or anything. Chinese food, which was the usual red balls of sludge and some other things I didn't get. Looked gross even in the tray. I did get the roast, it was pretty good. I would never recommend this place unless you don't care about what your putting in your body. I finally got to check out the Mediterranean Buffet (Friday nights). If you are expecting heaps of Greek food, you will be sadly disappointed. No Greek salad. Ran out by 18:30 when I got there and it wasn't replaced nor would be. The only "Greek" items were some sparse chicken and beef skewers (which were not even seasoned), "rice pilaf" which was just yellow rice, oregano potatoes, and some "fried" squid (actually boiled in tomato/olive juice) and some Costco frozen meatballs covered in watery tomato sauce to be passed off as "keftedes", nothing like what they should be. No hummus, no pitas, no tzatziki, no pan roasted potatoes, no kalamari, no feta, no spanakopita, no moussaka, no skewered prawns.... All these items would EASILY be done in bulk. You'll find the carvery featuring roast beast and ham. Penne pasta, corn, some basa, and regular salad fare and soups. You will also find all this on "Italian" and "Mexican" nights so I was told by the manager. You'd never find roasted beast and ham in those countries offered as a dish. No Greek desserts. Just Costco creme puffs, 2 bite brownies, some different cakes and fruit. Quite lame. No baklava, no loukoumades, no ekmek no kataifi. Like I said before....if you are expecting a "Greek" buffet, don't come here. Go to an actual Greek restaurant. OASN, I finished my first plate, went to refill my drink. I've been here a few times, it good for a night out. It boasts a large sports bar as well as the "red room" which has had live music each time I have visited the casino. Both have a large seating area and great service. I typically partake in some light gambling - I enjoy the penny slots. For quite some time my boyfriend and I were able to break even there. One night I saw a girl pull two jackpots on a 2c machine within 5 minutes, so obviously their machines do pay. It does get quite busy, especially on the penny machines but it is good brainless fun once you sit down at one and pretty low risk. It was disappointing to have buffet in starlight casino. We were attracted by the $10 slot machine coupon and that was the reason we were here. We ate buffets locally and in the States but hadn't experienced something like this. We were not greeted and lead to a table for seat. We looked around and found one ourselves instead. After 10 minutes of waiting time, a waitress finally came and served us drinks. When we were ready to go for food, most of the food was empty. The kitchen was not keeping up with the flow. Not a good thing to see in a casino restaurant! At times there was no clean plates. The place seemed to be short of staff. When we were getting the roasted beef, it took us 10 minutes to get my plate filled. The chef was serving two tables at the same time - roasted lamb and beef table. If you have plenty of time to waste, this is probably the place to go to, if not, go to some other casinos. There are many casinos with good restaurants around. read more

One of the better ambiences, compared to PNE or Edgewater, though it is off the beaten track, just avoid the traffic @ connector when you can. Quite spacious and like the parking facilities, surface lot as well as covered. And it's great there's a few indies food-wise, choice of casual noodles or high-end Kirin. Also the sports bar where 1040AM seem to host the Canuck hockey games. A decent buffet but an even better sitting lounge, with a row across for candy action, though it's kinda rare lol. read more

I had incredibly high hopes for this casino, ignorantly so, as me and my party were met with the most unprofessional and rude service I have ever received at any establishment. Mere minutes after being granted admittance into the casino, members of my group were asked to leave on account of intoxication, an offense we were not aware of in an establishment that serves alcohol. It is important to note that at the time of us being kicked out we had not consumed ANY alcohol within the casino, so we left a little confused as to how we were suddenly "too drunk" after not drinking anything?? Upon asking the employees for their reasoning for our removal, we were met with nothing but hostility and vague answers citing "BC liquor laws" as we watched FAR more intoxicated individuals enjoy their unrestricted freedoms. Apparently having young girls get harassed by hammered men is more favorable than allowing a group of 15+ individuals to have a harmless night of dancing. While I'm sure that this poor review does not reflect the professionalism of this establishment in its entirety, I can guarantee you that it does reflect that of Barbara and Jared (?)-- the two less-than-pleasant individuals we were forced to deal with. If I wanted someone to disrespect me and roll their eyes at every question I asked, I could've spent a lot less money literally anywhere else. The Hard Rock Casino is 20 minutes away from this place, save yourself some dignity and go there instead. read more

My boyfriends family decided to celebrate his dads birthday at the buffet. I had come a little later than the rest when my boyfriend asked if I made sure I had I.D. with my luck it was one of the few times I changed bags and didn't have my wallet but was surprised he even asked because we were only eating at the buffet not entering the casino. When I arrived I was lucky because my passport was in my boyfriend's car. He came out to meet me and we proceeded to head to the buffet only to be stopped by the greeter who said we needed to present 2 pieces of I.D because we "appeared" under the age of 30 as this is their policy. Now I am not a tall girl and yes sometimes I can be mistakened for a high school student so I presented my I.D to show the man I am in fact well over the age of 19 but didn't have another piece of I.D but it was clearly a real Canadian passport. My boyfriend also had the same issue and explained that merely 20min ago the previous person let him and his entire family (which included 4 people under the age of 21) through without 2 pieces of government I.D. The man said he was not allowed to change the rules and that wed have to speak to a manager. I asked the manager kindly and advised we were going to the buffet and if there was a separate entrance which he said no and that they couldn't accept my Canadian passport or his BC Drivers liscence because they couldn't confirm it was really us unless we had one other piece. I asked and said really the rule of 2 pieces only applies to people who "appear" under 30 so if there was any way he could just leave that to interpretation and allow us through so we could enjoy our dinner at THEIR RESTAURANT. He again responded no, only unless my boyfriends dad could come out and vouch we were in fact who we said we were claiming. Even after he came to get us he made us sign a random scrap piece of paper to compare our signatures on our I.D's I have NEVER felt so violated. They treated us like we were criminals trying to commit fraud. I have had an easier time crossing airport security than a LAME, unpopular casino in the middle of nowhere. I give it 1star (because I can't give zero) only because the staff at the actual buffet were relatively nice but the food was decent at best. It has a machine that let's you make about 100 kinds of drink flavors (coke machine). The food was maybe a 2/5 maybe on a good day. I wouldn't recommend you come here because the staff were extremely rude, unhelpful and clearly know nothing about customer service. This is specifically for The Buffet. My husband & I live close the Starlight Casino so decided to have our Valentine's Day date night there as he had to work the following morning & the snow was coming down hard. Traffic was chaotic everywhere. The buffet was quite busy with it also being that there were Chinese New Year events happening. We did get a booth after a short wait, the rest of the tables are very close together like a cafeteria. The regular price is about $21.00 a person which is about 1/2 of what River Rock. The selection however was terrible. There were zero vegetarian options I could see & the roast was SO over cooked & full of tendon & arteries. It is 19+ only because there's no other entrance like there is at river rock. If u want a better option for a buffet for the same price, I suggest making the trip to Uncle Willy's. A smaller casino seemingly full of senior citizens. Avoid around 8 or 9 PM because they have some draw during which an announcer's voice blares throughout the place ad-nauseum while he tries to sell you on participating in the draw. read more
