I highly recommend Starlight Caregivers for anyone who is looking to have a loved one cared for. Our family is presently using Starlight Caregivers for the second time in the last few years. A few years ago, I needed help for my mom, who lived alone and was at a point where she had difficulty cooking and caring for herself and was also developing mobility issues. With difficulty getting down her steps to just go outside and no longer able to drive, she was alone all the time. At that time, I met with Duanni Hurd who was incredible to work and communicate with, as well as being very understanding and comforting. We started with someone a few hours every other day, which gradually increased to full-time care, but not yet 24-hour care. Starlight was incredibly flexible and was always able to schedule caregivers right away whenever the schedule needing changing. Once it became evident that my mom needed 24-hour care as she started falling when trying to get to the bathroom during the night, the cost of in-home 24-hour care was the same as that of an assisted living facility and that is when it was decided she needed to move and we would no longer need Starlight's services. Fast-forward two years and my mother-in-law had a series of incidents that left her needing 24-hour care after being hospitalized for several months. Now my husband's family needed help and I recommended Starlight. Wanting to assure for themselves that Starlight was the best choice, they interviewed several different companies. Starlight won hands-down. Angel from Starlight met with my husband and his brother and through her they were able to see that Starlight was the most professional company of all they interviewed with, as well as met all of the criteria they were looking for. Starlight is still providing care for my mother-in-law, although the hours and days have reduced as she improves proving that Starlight is always happy to adapt the schedule as needs change. All caregivers have been wonderful. It takes a special person to be a caregiver and all have been caring and compassionate as well as knowledgeable, efficient, prompt, and easy to work with as well. I know that Starlight goes the extra mile in checking backgrounds and qualifications, and in meeting with the person they will be caring for to assure compatibility. I also enjoy the website's family portal where we can look at the schedule, and see each caregiver's picture and qualifications. Angel and the office staff are readily available, quickly responsive, compassionate, always a pleasure to speak with, and always able to make sure all needs are met. I would also like to say that during this Covid-19 pandemic, Starlight has had their caregivers take all necessary safety precautions and we have never felt uneasy with anyone coming in to take care of my mother-in-law. Safety is our utmost concern and with Starlight, we have never once worried about her being at risk. We used Starlight Caregivers for in-home, live-in care for our 84-year-old Dad who needed help with all his personal care, medications, blood pressure, wound care, meals, etc. Due to his height and weight, coupled with immobility, a power lift was needed to get move him between his wheelchair and his bed. So he was not an easy patient, physically, although he was a super nice guy! I strongly recommend Starlight Caregivers for several reasons: 1. The quality of the caregivers they sent. The caregivers that Starlight and were CNAs with very high skill sets that matched Dad's care needs. They had no trouble using our equipment, learning Dad's routine, and managing his care from the moment they entered our home. We also found them to be people of great loyalty and high integrity whom we could completely trust in our home and with our dad. 2. Great match of interests and personality between caregivers and our dad. Before placing a caregiver in our home, the owner of the company, Duanni Hurd, and her director of care, visited Dad at home and interviewed him and us about his medical condition, care requirements, preferences and interests. Dad was a retired scientist with a wide range of highly technical interests. We were particularly amazed that Starlight Caregivers was able to send a CNA who actually knew and had used the specific kind of scientific instruments that our dad used to design. Dad was thrilled, too. 3. Cost sensitivity and scheduling. Changes to the regulations for paying in-home caregivers that went into effect in early 2015 have made it virtually impossible to afford 24-hour in-home care. This is something that Starlight Caregivers and others throughout the home care industry are trying to get changed. But in the meantime, Starlight Caregivers provided us with scheduling alternatives that kept down the cost considerably. And they managed the caregivers' schedules so that we were not caught up in a nightmare of juggling multiple caregiver schedules ourselives. All in all, I was extremely pleased with the service, compassion and knowledge that Starlight Caregivers provided. I am very grateful for the truly extraordinary services provided by Starlight Caregivers. For approximately two years, caregiver Tom worked with my brother who is schizoaffective disordered, in his mid 50s, and active. My brother lives in a residential care facility, but needed 1:1 attention especially to go on outings and to help mitigate his undesirable behavior and habits. To say the least, he is very challenging not just because of his mental illness, but also for his personal hygiene issues, cantankerous personality, and another medical condition. My brother is often noncompliant and smart enough to be tricky to keep breaking rules. Tom had to constantly strategize to encourage my brother's cooperation. Tom would visit my brother primarily for a few hours two days a week, and on occasion, there would be excursions that would last about six hours; even to this day, Starlight is the only service I trust to take my brother on long day excursions. Besides what is typically expected of caregivers, Starlight did so much more (e.g., going with my brother to apply for a state issued identification card, helping him purchase a bicycle, etc.). Because my brother is not often lucid, it can be difficult to decipher if he was satisfied with the caregiving; however, when I see positive signs (e.g., he is showered, wearing clean clothes, etc.) and he is asking when Tom will be there again, I know a job well done was accomplished. I could call them with confidence knowing they would accommodate a schedule change as they would have various team members working on the matter. Their entire team is stellar, compassionate, and professional. I've hired services besides Starlight, and I will confidently say that Starlight is the best all around from dealing with my brother hands-on, communication, flexibility in scheduling, competitive rates, and reliability. Absolutely superb services by Starlight CareGivers for our mother over 15 months from October 2021 through December 2022. We could not have sustained home care without their superb support, and as a result our mother enjoyed quality time living with family which was simply invaluable. Prior to engaging Starlight, we struggled with other companies that did not have the depth of caregivers or flexibility to meet our changing needs. Starlight was truly outstanding in every respect---each caregiver was caring and professionally qualified, and Starlight Schedulers consistently met both our recurring schedule requirements as well as frequent ad hoc requests to accommodate busy family dynamics. We were always reassured through their prompt communications---both via the portal and group text messages for real-time updates whenever needed. My 91 year-old mother needed caregiving assistance with medication, bathing, dressing and other activities of daily life. Starlight Caregivers came recommended to us from multiple sources, including a local senior agency, medical clinic, and three former clients. Their online recommendations set them a step above from their competitors. Duanni, the President and CEO, is a powerhouse former Business Development Manager (AMD), active in philanthropic organizations including the Rotary Club, Mentor Tutor Connection and Los Altos Chamber of Commerce. Her caregiver managers, Frances, Angel, Alejandro, and Samantha--driven and energetic--dealt with questions and needs in a caring, responsive and prompt manner. They communicate, accommodate, and listen, with customers coming first. Starlight hires only about 5% of applicants, most being certified nurse assistants or certified home health aides. They train and test them (required) regularly, and try to match personalities and styles to their clients. In one case, a caregiver that didn't seem to be a good personality match was quickly replaced. There are not enough Yelp stars for this company! Although he needed help, my dad was very reluctant to allow caregivers into his home. The people in charge at Starlight, Duanni, Angel, and Alex, took the time to get to know him and to select the perfect caregivers for his needs. They made personal visits to the house on multiple occasions, welcomed his input, checked in with me by telephone and email several times a week, and sought feedback from both family and caregivers on a regular basis, making adjustments here and there (and sometimes house calls) to make sure my dad was completely safe and comfortable. They did not settle for less, were exceptionally sensitive to my dad's feelings, and never seemed put out by our idiosyncratic requests, day or night, week day or weekend. Within a month or two, Dad told me that he considered the Starlight folks to be, not only his caregivers, but his friends. I can't imagine a better outcome. Starlight allowed my dad to stay in his home of 56 years where he was happy and relatively independent. In fact, his caregivers, especially Margie, Tessie, Eva, and Olga, enriched his final months, for which I am very grateful. My sister and I have engaged StarLight CareGivers twice to take care of my aging parents. The 1st time was for in-home help as my parents were still living by themselves. We ended the service when my parents moved to a senior home with assisted living services. The 2nd time, which was in late 2021/early 2022, StarLight provided round the clock assistive care as my father transitioned from nursing home back to his apartment at the senior center. The care team was caring and kept good records of daily routines and transmitted the info to my sister and I daily. The care period was during the Covid Delta surge where mom and dad's senior home had very strict antigen test requirements for outsiders. There were good communications between the care team and my sister and I, and they jumped through the hoops to find appropriate caregivers when dad contracted Covid at the senior home. StarLight made sure there were no coverage disruptions. My father has Alzheimer's and was not used to care givers other than mom. The caregivers from StarLight were patient and resourceful and was able to handle dad and provided the care he needed. I couldn't say enough good things about StarLight. Starlight provided excellent care for my father during his last months and days. We were very impressed with the caregivers' training levels, backgrounds, kindness, and intelligence. It was a difficult time for my family and one we had no experience with or idea what to expect. At every step of the way they helped us care for my dad and make his time comfortable. We had used another service earlier but the caregivers from that agency did not have near the training or experience that those from Starlight demonstrated. Starlight caregivers are the best, including Brenda, Maribel, Cesar, Cynthia, and Arcadia . In particular, I would commend Brenda for her steadfastness, counseling, and care abilities. Maribel provided cooking and housekeeping as well as singing beautifully to entertain my dad. Cesar had so much experience, helped us organize the details of hospice care, provided excellent personal care for my dad, and was able to transfer my dad to a chair to keep him engaged with people and family life. Arcadia also had a lot of experience and was able to transfer my dad and provide excellent personal care. Cynthia knew every detail and nuance of caring for my dad. After our mother broke her hip in August 2014, we were referred to Starlight Caregivers by the staff at Sequoia Hospital. Our initial phone communications were very professional. Duanni was able to provide a caregiver within a day of our confirming that we wanted someone to begin taking care of our mother. We have been very satisfied with the people and services provided by Starlight and the sister company Footprints. Mom has had 24 hour attention since she got out of the hospital. She can be very particular about who is in the house with her, and we went through several people finding the right people for her. This is not a knock on Starlight. Rather, it is a high compliment that Duanni has access to so many quality caregivers that she has been able to "custom fit" her services to Mom. Cynni, Jenni and Amy have been particular lifesavers and have become close friends with Mom. They provide all kinds of support beyond simple caregiving, including helping Mom buy new household appliances, getting her drivers license re-issued, resolving banking issues, etc. We recommend Starlight and Footprints very highly if you need a competent, well trained, professional caregiver. read more

What an amazing group of care-givers! My family looked at eight services, interviewed three and selected StarLight -- and we're glad we did. My family hired StarLight Caregivers to help take care of my 90-year old mother who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Not only did they keep my mom safe, but also handled the difficult day-to-day tasks of showering her, styling her hair, taking her for walks, managing her toileting, guiding her as she tried to "help" with chores, preparing meals for her and my dad. We are truly grateful for this and their professional approach to working with the family, accommodating schedule changes, managing communications with my dad (who is hard of hearing), and coordinating with five adult "kids." We have been working with Starlight since June to provide care to my mother-in-law. She is suffering with serious dementia but is not able to acknowledge her need for help. This has required a delicate balance of trying to get her to accept new people into her life and home without provoking her to just slam the door with a definitive "NO". Duanni has been extremely dedicated and responsive in trying to make this work so that my mother-in-law can remain in her home. She has provided two Mandarin speaking caregivers, both of whom have been innovative and creative in thinking how to make it work with an often difficult client. We are all still working hard to make this a success, but much progress has been made since June. We highly recommend Duanni and Starlight Caregivers for their dedication, the quality of the people with whom we have interacted, their professionalism. And, again, Duanni has been available at all times of the day and on weekends to help us interface with the caregivers in the moment. I rarely give public endorsements to businesses, but when a business delivers to impossible expectations, it's deserving of recognition. My 80+ year old mother fell three times within a year, and endured constant pain recovering from shingles. She preferred aging in place at her home but refused the idea of a caregiver. To make the situation more challenging my mother only speaks cantonese and is generally anti social. I worked with Starlight for a year to figure out a solution to a seemingly impossible situation. The Starlight team, lead by Duanni was extremely patient, understanding and accommodating. We tried multiple caregivers and they are all excellent. They are very experienced dealing with caring for the elderly that want to age in place, and in particular, dealing with cross cultural and communication differences within a family unit. Today my mother is great friends with both her caregivers and is living a more independent and happier life than I thought possible. And that makes the extended family's lives much happier as well. I'm responsible for an elderly friend who lives 100 miles from me. I signed up with Starlight over two years ago to provide a Care Manager and daily caregivers (ranging from 10 hrs/day to 6 hrs/day). Since then they have scheduled capable and caring caregivers through a variety of schedule changes and crises (including COVID!) without a blip. The Care Manager is available to handle anything that comes up - taking my friend to doctor appointments, helping during moves (from one facility to another), buying and delivering necessities that come up, and taking my friend out to lunch often to an old favorite restaurant of hers. I am able to see their schedules and daily caregiver reports online. The owner, care manager, and office staff are all available to me via phone and email, and have always been very responsive. My friend has not been easy to care for, often resistant and argumentative. I have always been confident that her care is excellent. I highly recommend Starlight. read more

My wife has needed a caregiver for the past 10 years. We've used private caregivers and several agencies. Starlight was the most professional of the agencies. They answered the phone promptly and took care of any issues, such as a caregiver stuck in traffic, with a minimum of fuss. Once they even sent someone from the office when the caregiver was unexpectedly delayed due to a sick child. The caregivers from Starlight were very well trained, something I can't say for the private caregivers or the other agencies. In addition, once they got to know my wife, Starlight found caregivers that she looked forward to seeing. The only problem we ran into is the high cost of living in the area. Two of our favorite caregivers had recently moved to the area but found they couldn't afford it and left after a few months. I wish there was a way for Starlight to have rewarded them with higher pay even if it cost us a bit more. read more
