So far this is the best pizza I've tasted in Naples. The tasted is even enhanced by the great staff. I first tried the montaranita. The mini fried pizza is like an empanada and a perfect sampler to start any meal. Ordering a few different mini fried pizzas ones can make a meal if you're not overly hungry. Then came the main pizzas. The marinara Starita is excellent. It's toppings are perfectly balanced and an excellent pizza by any standard. It's only a little oily but not nearly as much as most of the more popular neopalitan pizzas. A staff member even commented that it's their best pizza. I can't disagree. However, I nearly liked the montanara Starita even more. The fried crust baked pizza combo is divine. The toppings were okay, but the crust was next level. A pizza made from the montanara crust and the marinara Starita toppings would be a perfect pizza. Starita, if you're reading this, make it happen! Service is incredibly prompt and generous. You'll be treated like a guest that's cared for and thought of instead of another tab. This could be the best overall pizza place in Naples.
This is a marvelous pizzaria in the Materdei neighborhood of Naples. Our landlord recommended it for dinner on our first night in Naples, and we are glad he did! Step into Starita, and you leave the bustling street and vespa noise outside. In short, it serves the best pizza in Naples IMHO. Service was friendly, helpful, and attentive. With the extensive menu, we needed the help navigating it. Of course, when in Napes, we had to have the Margherita pizza (5/5) -- the best I've had anywhere -- and we also shared a Marinara alla Starita pizza (4/5). The crusts were wonderful -- a perfect balance of crispiness and softness, plus a delightful smoky flavor from the wood-fired ovens. While waiting for our pizzas, we enjoyed the Fiori de Zucca Imboltitti (5/5) -- fried zucchini blossoms. They were heavenly! We also had some Peroni beer and a nice bottle of 2021 Pride Aglianico Beneventano (4/5 14€). I highly recommend Starita for the quality of the pizzas, its overall menu, and its welcoming atmosphere.
We are staying in the neighborhood for 5 days and saw great reviews for Starita, so we went in to try it. This is definitely a local favorite. There were very few tourists in this side street pizzeria that has been around since 1901. As a starter, we got the fried angiolette (think donut without the hole) one had a dollop of marinara and the other had cooked onions and pecorino romano (I think). Then, we got the Diavola which has been the best pizza we have tried so far in Italy. The crust is perfectly crisp, yet tender and flavorful. And the toppings are so fresh. Finally, we had the "fried angels" - which is fried pizza dough with Nutella drizzled over the top. It was a nice sweet to end the meal. We returned the next night and had the Miss Italy and the Montanaria Starita- which is a fried pizza crust that is then topped with red sauce,basil, smoked provolone cheese and pecorino romano, then put into the oven to finish. This makes the crust extra crispy and not at all oily. My husband wasn't the biggest fan of the arugula on the Miss Italy, so he ate half of mine. The staff is so efficient. They are constantly keeping the table cleared of dirty dishes and empty bottles. We recommend this for you to try if in the museum district of Naples. The price is so cheap. 8 euros for a pizza. Cheaper than buying a pizza from Domino's or Papa John's with 50x the flavor.
Came here for a late lunch. I imagine there's a line during peak hours but I was seated right away and they have plenty of seating. Their servers spoke English and had a English menu. Decor is pretty basic inside. The pizza menu is quite large. I ended up getting the messicana which had sausage, spicy peppers and sauce. It was so so good! Yum! Portion was quite large too. Definitely would recommend this place on your pizza journey.
There are many pizzerias in Naples so it can be hard to choose. This place is one of my favorites. Their mozzarella, their tomatoes, their crusts, all their ingredients are fresh and high quality. You can see them make the pizzas right in front of you. So many unique pizzas to choose from (in fact there might be too many options) that I recommend doing family style and sharing a few pizzas/appetizers so that you can try as many as possible. Great portions for the price. My two friends and I ordered 3 pizzas and an appetizer and we had food left over to take home.
Straight gasoline. Cant go wrong with pizza in naples but this one will put any average american in a coffin. Margherita is a must and ms italia is a runner up. Waited for a takeaway 15 minutes and enjoyed in a plaza. Didnt get any utensils so we simply tore this delicacy by hand and devoured. Good shi
Very good, award-winning pizza, although imo not quite on the level of OWAP or Sorbillo. Would be top rated in probably an other city on Earth! Ambience is a bit on the bright, efficient, out-in-an-hour side of things. The real star is the gluten-free pizza though, which was the best we sampled in Napoli! As a celiac visiting the city, do yourself the favor, eat here at least once.

Located steps from Materdei station in Napoli since 1901 Starita has served everyone from the Pope to Sophia Loren, and although New York's "Don Antonio by Starita" makes a good Pizza the use of native Ingredients helps set the original apart. Made famous by the 1954 film L'oro di Napoli, and still owned by Antonio Starita in partnership with son Giuseppe, it was without the usual hour-plus queue that Starita was found on a brisk January evening, Staff beginning to welcome guests at 19h00 with the lengthy space mostly full within thirty minutes. Decorated in stone archways and red tablecloths, old photos plus the iconic fork and ladle hanging on the wall, guests are invited to choose from over sixty Pies offered alongside Fritti and Dolci, the Montanara highly celebrated but on this night omitted in favor of a particularly creamy Rice Ball and Starita's delicate stuffed-Squash Blossom. Steeped in history, no hyper-hydration or exaggerated cornicione, Starita's Pizza takes on a more traditional appearance with crisp edge and moist center, a Margherita made with Tomatoes from Mount Vesuvius showcasing sweetness and acidity contrasted by puddles of Cheese and the oven's char. Utilizing three rooms in addition to the foyer containing Starita's oven, and filling the first before seating the second, it was with volume high that Pizza number two was tasted, a thick layer of smoked Cheese helping to mellow unctuous Roman Pork with distinctive notes of Pepper and Rosemary.
When in Naples on the second stop of our honeymoon, it was a must that we have pizza. I heard about Starita on a favourite food website of mine, Serious Eats. I mapped it out before coming to Naples, and luckily it was only a few blocks from the National Archaeological Museum, and easy to find if you know what street you're looking for. The neighbourhood is well outside the nice downtown area, and even the area immediately next to the Museum is fairly grungy looking, but it never felt dangerous, just kinda dirty. We got there right at 7pm; I'm not sure if that's when they open, but it very well might have been because it was pretty much dead, with a good 10 staff members standing around the front counters, and it was almost a rush to seat us. The resto itself is very newly renovated - shiny new wall tiles adorn the walls and there was just a very clean, modern vibe, which was a nice compliment to the history of the building itself and makes it stand out from probably all the surrounding restaurants within a radius of several city blocks. Old movie art and pictures from Starita's storied past decorate the walls. Having read about the ricotta-stuffed, fried zucchini blossoms, I checked to make sure they were available and ordered one each for my wife and I. For pizzas I chose their VPN margherita, of course, and the porcini mushroom pizza to mix it up a bit. The blossoms came very quickly, with parts of the orange-yellow blossom still visible through the light, golden brown breading. Cutting the crunchy tip off, ultra-light ricotta spilled out. I definitely noticed and enjoyed the quality of ricotta that I'd come across in our first week in Italy, and this was another winner. The blossom itself had a very mild flavour, although its lightly floral taste was mostly lost in the salty breading and the ricotta. It was a very good appetizer though, and left we wishing I had ordered more. Our pizzas came shortly after and were a sight to behold. The margherita was generously dotted with one inch hunks of buffalo mozzarella, while equally randomly placed charred leaves of fresh basil contrasted with the red of the sauce. The crust had a perfect char on both the cornicionne and the bottom, and cutting into it revealed an airy crumb. Actually taking a bite was even better than looking at this pizza beauty, with the soft, lightly charred crust playing well with the wonderful balance of the sweetness and acidity of the sauce. I must say that I'm definitely a fan of an even distribution of shredded cheese, rather than the haphazard distribution of blobs of mozza, but it was lightly salty and delicious nonetheless. The basil added its herby funk, and while I'm not a huge fan of it, it still added to the layers of simple flavours on this very well executed pie. The porcini pizza was equally well done, and was actually preferred by my mushroom-loving wife. It had gotten just a bit more charring than the margherita, just enough to make the crust even better. The cheese coverage was much better, with the whole thing covered except for the wide cornicionne. Thick slices of sauteed mushrooms were all over the pizza and added to the richness. There was no tomato sauce, just a little oil. A German Weiss beer paired well both, not too strongly flavoured and a bit floral. We finished our meal off with my first ever shot of limoncello. It was super sweet, like a liquid version of lemon pie, but with a noticeably strong amount of liquor in it; more than your various 20% liqueurs, but less than a spirit. Starita was a fantastic example of Neopolitan pizza, and is worth seeking out if you're visiting the city.

Best pizza in the world. We had two: Marinara and Pipieno. Very complimentary. I will never love another pizza. Service was great in a cool environment. Angioletti mix for desert. Stop playing with this place. If there were 6 stars I would give it 7 stars. read more
Never fall for the tourist trap but always go where the locals go!! This has been the best Neapolitan Pizza we've had. Off the beaten path but you know they're doing something right since 1901 when there's a line outside and it's packed inside and we were probably the only non-Italian customers. Service was amazing very friendly people. And the best part of it, Domino's pizza is way more expensive in the US . Got the Montanara Starita which the pie is Double cooked by first frying the base and then baked in the oven, seasoned with Neapolitan meat sauce, smoked provola, Pecorino Romano DOP, basil.....Mama Mia!! Also got the Romana which is Tomato puree, fiordilatte from Campania, anchovies in oil, Gaeta olives, basil....delicioso. And to top off our meal..we ordered the Little Angels fried which are born from a recipe from Don Antonio's mother, who loved to eat these small cylindrical pieces of fried pizza dough sprinkled with sugar. They are ideal both as an appetizer, accompanied by fresh tomato and arugula, and as a dessert, garnished with Nutella or pistachio cream. Be careful though, because they can be addictive!! I would recommend this place highly. Amazing vibe, waiters super cool owner comes and greats all guests I feel that's very important. The Pizza was amazing full of flavor and a lot of cool photos and awards on the wall. read more

One of our best meals while in Southern Italy earlier this month. Although our pizza tasting was not extensive, we tried four different pizzeria's in Naples with this being the best. Not too soggy, sauce perfect, classic as well as creative new styles to choose from. Don't miss out one the Angioletti Fritti - fried pizza dough with delicious tomatoes. The restaurant is within walking distance to the Archeological Museum so I would time my visit there to eating there. I believe it is open at all times except Sunday for lunch. Will have to try the sister restaurant while in New York - Don Antonio. read more

A friend of mine brought us to Starita after raving about it the entire day (she also brought us around Naples). I don't usually eat a lot of pizza but I really contemplated ordering another helping of their tartufo pizza! They even have vegan options. I would definitely pick this over sorbellos! Would recommend you go during off peak periods because the queue can be quite insane. read more

The restaurant is cozy but elegant; invites you in with the stone oven and polished pizza-makers near the entrance; service is spot on - - gracious but understated; the margherita con bufala out-of-this-world luscious; melty, buttery bufala in a sea of delicious sauce. Everything, the ambiance, the service, and some fairly perfect pizza - - something like this kind of spoils you forever. read more

Had a very good and tasty margherita. Unfortunately I went there after a whole day of eating so I wasn't that hungry and didn't fully enjoyed my pizza experience (that's the reason of 4 stars instead of 5). Anyways starita should be one of the best pizzerias in town. In fact there was a long line to get in. read more

Stayed at Napoli for a few days and Starita was highly recommended by the locals for my family to enjoy a great pizza. We gave them a try our second night in town around 9:30ish and the place was buzzing with patrons waiting for a table when we arrived. To our surprise, our wait was less than 10 minutes and once inside we realized the place is much bigger then what it looks like form the outside. Our waiter was pleasant, made recommendations based on what we where looking for in a pizza. He recommended the diovalos and the filetto de pomodoro; great choices, full of flavor, nice crust and so tasty that we ordered a 2nd diovalos! The food hit the spot but, didn't leave us feeling like we just had a heavy meal. I highly recommend if your in the area, you won't be disapointed. read more

Yum. Just yum! Pizza Margherita melted in the mouth. Got there right before noon on Sunday and we were the 2nd group. Within minutes it was full to capacity. 100% would go back. read more

Epic Italian Restaurant! Best Pizza i've ever eaten. We did visit Napoli from Germany and although our pizzas arent that good as here. Very modern interior and handsome service. Good price and normal time for waiting. Perfect! read more

Love love love love love love love Starita! They have such creative pizza options with great ingredients plus they are known as the best for fried pizza in Naples (confirmed by taxi drivers ;)) They have all sorts of options with fun bases instead of tomato sauce such as the one I had which was a pumpkin sauce and hubby had a nut sauce one. Amazing!! Our friend picked the fried pizza. We all had starters too which are yummy. Must be on your Naples list! read more

There might have been about 100 people waiting outside and 10 people inside. I had to wait for a good 45 minutes. However, if you would like to experience a true Neapolitan pizzeria, it is worth waiting. I ordered montanara, and margherita con prosciutto e funghi, but what actually came was just margherita. It was still very tasteful, so it didn't matter. Dough was so moist and glutinous. Pizza here was definitely number one pizza I have ever had. I must try its sister restaurant, Don Antonio, in NYC. read more

The BEST PIZZA I have tasted in Napoli! I frequent Naples for business and always try to seek great local pizza shops. This one is considered one of the best in Italy. In fact, it lives up to the hype. My only reservation about my rarely awarded 5 star review is that you do feel a bit rushed. This is obviously due to the long lines that you will find almost anytime you go (Expect to wait at least 45 minutes). Here are my suggestions from the menu: fried zucchini flower stuffed with ricotta cheese was AMAZING! I would also suggest the Diavola Pizza if you are up for spicy salami with a bit of chili oil. And a 'must have' is the fried dough with Nutella for dessert. If you are in Naples and want to try the BEST PIZZA, look no further -- STARITA! read more

Best pizza I've ever had. My boyfriend and I were staying in Naples with our friend who lives here and he brought us to his favorite pizza spot, Starita. We ordered four pizzas - each was AMAZING and super affordable: about $5 for the Margarita, a little more for specialty pizzas. Highly recommend this spot for travelers who want an authentic slice of Napoli. read more
