This was my first trip to the StarDome and while I wasn't all that impressed, I wasn't completely disappointed either. My boyfriend won some tickets so we went with a group of friends. We arrived about twenty minutes before the show started but couldn't go in because the meet and greet wasn't over from the previous show. Fast forward 45 minutes and the crowd outside had tripled but we still weren't allowed in. It was really annoying because we weren't allowed to wait inside so we had to all squeeze under the awning outside because it was raining. When we finally did get inside, I was surprised about how nice the place was. It was setup with a type of amphitheater seating with a nice sized stage at the bottom. We were quickly seated but it took a while for the waitress to come around and take our food and drink order. We ordered a gin and tonic, beer and some fries with bacon and cheese. My beer was cold, his drink was good and the fries were okay. The food certainly isn't anything to write home about but it was okay for the price. The show started off very good. I really liked the opener guy but I'm not sure if it was because he was clearly drunk or if he was really funny? What I do know is that he was much more entertaining than the main act, which was Kenny Smith. He begun his act pretty well but just became less funny and more awkward as his act progressed. He was just really bad and not at all impressive. Considering all things, I'll be back some time to give this place another try but for now it's just "meh". read more

Definitely a good spot for a date night with your significant other, great performances. Drinks are a little on the expensive side but, they're needed for the atmosphere. The Stadium seating is a plus so you have a decent view no matter where you end up sitting. Seats are first come first serve. read more

I went to see comedy veterans Rickey Smiley, Marvin Hunter and Prescott. The atmosphere at the Stardome Comedy Club is always pleasant and welcoming! From the ticket office, the servers/kitchen staff (food is good), and DJ's (music) are on point. Rickey open the show with a dance, music and then the jokes, the audience lost it! Laughter surged through the crowd as his wit reminded us all he's from...ALABAMA! These guys were hilarious! Rickey had my head hurting. Then the other comedians brought tears to my eyes. I hope I am able to talk afterwards. This show was like no other and far exceeded my expectations. Continue to bring great comedians to the club. read more

Came here for the first time for my birthday back in November and had a good time. I did not have the food but drinks and service were good even during a more popular and busy venue. Most of staff were friendly and helpful and brought back what you wanted in a reasonable amount of time( within 5 minutes or less). Prices were about standard for what you order at a bar or restaurant. The building is tucked back behind one of the main retail areas of 31 and Lorna Road, so I thought that was weird and it would be more out in the open but still pretty easy to find. I will definitely come back in the future for some shows and hope to try the food as well. read more

Prior to a recent (last night) visit to the Stardome Comedy Club, it'd been years since I last set foot in the place, or even considered it an option for entertainment in the city. But, my wife's birthday provided us with the opportunity to cap free tickets, so we grabbed a few friends and headed out for some laughs. The Stardome is a breath of fresh air in Birmingham, in the midst of the typical entertainment/time-passing activities - eating, shopping, movies - and does pretty well to host some pretty entertaining and moderately well-known comedians from time to time (e.g., Wendy Liebman, Mitch Hedberg (RIP), to name a couple). The club itself is rather cozy, in the sense that they essentially try to shove as many bodies in the place as 'tetrisally'-possible. (If you have a problem with people, claustrophobia, or random waiters/waitresses falling in your lap, going through your pockets, or brushing up against your eyelashes, this might not be the venue for you. lol) The best way I can describe it would be to think back (for those of you old enough) to the "I Love Lucy" show, and specifically those episodes in which Ricky was performing with the band live. Notice the way in which the band is seated - two columns of row after row, with a walking path down the middle; that's pretty much Stardome, but with an elevated stage, lights, and a very effective sound system (no problems there). On a typical night, the "event" consists of an emcee to get the crowd loose and inform them of upcoming events, a feature act to really get the crowd going and entrees and drinks moving), and then finally the headliner/person everyone came to really see. Some of the performers will sometimes show up after the show outside the main doors, to say thanks for coming or pass along wares related to them, the act, or possibly even charities/organizations they might be sponsoring. But there's always a pretty good chance once the show's over, it's a wrap. It all depends on the performer. (Last night's headliner was Paul Hooper (paulhoopercomedy.com), and he was hilariously-random; and he even took the time to come out afterwards and chatted up various attendees including myself and friends. Check him out ---) Like I briefly mentioned above, Stardome does serve food and drinks which are not exactly 5-star, but basically what you'd expect in a nightclub/bar-type environment; typical fare - wings, chicken fingers, small appetizers (nachos, mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms), etc. (I can't speak for the stronger libations, although the people laughing hysterically always seem to be enjoying them. lol) And the prices are about what you'd expect at, say, a TGI Fridays or something equivalent, so no worries about breaking the bank during a fun night outing. So, blah blah blah - Stardome is a cool little place slightly hidden in Hoover, where you can go and enjoy a laugh or several with some friends and strangers, and do something a-typical for a change. My only comment is: Is it not a fire hazard to be cramped up in there? Don't take a date in there that has a pot-belly or who's 6ft tall. They won't make it! Other than that, it's great. Make sure you're a little person. If you're clostraphobic, don't go there. When I saw David Allen Grier, they oversold the tickets and had to make a table behind the stage!! This is my second visit to the Stardome. I did not appreciate the fact that we were forced to spend $43.00 on some Dollar tree frozen section food. The serving portions compared to the prices did not match AT ALL!! I came to watch the show not to come eat!! The Show was also average which does not help there case. The doors also did not open on time we were waiting for them to clean up from the last show. At the end of the day I feel robbed!!! Not going back again. read more

Checked out Sheryl Underwood (Cheryl??) on Classic Weekend. This chic was HElarious! Money well spent - $28 bucks. The club itself it a bit cramped. Get there EARLY to ensure you have the best selection of seating at your 'reserved' table. If you're the last ones to arrive at your table of 6...you might be in the back, or unable to sit with each other. I'd suggest 40 minutes before your show starts. read more

Great server but the kitchen closed before we were able to place our order. We were only able to order drinks @8:00pm for the Tuesday show. I have never heard of a kitchen closing so early. Plus the show was not packed like it usually has been. We asked to speak to the manager but no one ever came out to acknowledge our request. I received free tickets and decided to give it a try. Since the tickets were free I had to order a minimum of five dollars worth of found. Pros: The place was setup better than I thought. I thought it would be some hole in the wall but it was setup pretty nice. The entertainers were pretty funny. I got good laugh from them. Cons: The food! I order burger and was really disappointed. You are really packed inside. I was seated at the bottom and I could barely move my chair around. On Thursday night, my wife and I went to the Stardome to see John Caparulo. Having just gotten off work, we decided to eat our supper at Stardome. Stardome has a policy that in addition to buying admission to see the show, each person has to spend a minimum of $5.00. In past excursions to the Comedy Club, my wife and I have tried drinks, desserts, and appetizers (e.g., Snack Attack) to meet (read: exceed) our minimum. On Thursday, we opted for a regular meal: cheeseburger, fries, and drink. We got to the Stardome about 7:15, and we ordered our meals a few minutes after sitting down. The food arrived less than 10 minutes later, which was very quick - even for Stardome. As a previous reviewer said, this is standard nightclub/bar food, and I would go as far to say that the Mac's 1 Stop cheeseburger beats the Stardome [bacon] cheeseburger (yes, I just said that a "plain" cheeseburger beats a bacon cheeseburger) for flavor and juiciness. However, the Stardome's fried crinkle-cut French fries saved the meal. If you are going to the Stardome for a show, feel free to try the drinks, desserts, and appetizers. For the money, the cheeseburger and fries are probably the best use of your $5.00 minimum, though. read more

Heike and I went to see DL Hughley last week. Being relatively new to Birmingham, AL, we weren't sure how parking would be. However, we were confident DL would be more than just funny. GOT DAMN, if this Man is not the Truth, then it's all a LIE!!! We caught the late show, and DL tore the roof off the place! Heike is German so you really have to come with it to get her to even half-ass chuckle; He had her ass rolling on the floor laughing her ass off. I wasn't excepting it for the late show to be honest, but he really is one of the funniest people living. He is just fucking funny. He was calling people out on the fly with a natural gift to have you laugh at your damn self. Heike wasn't sure she would enjoy the show, but is now this man's fan. If you need a really good night out to laugh your ass off, you need to find out where this Man is performing. He's one of the only guy's I'll pay good money to go see. If I can give the rate a negative 0 for the food I would. Because my husband got food poisoning really bad he's been sick for a while now. So now we are headed to the emergency room. The show was nice we went to go see Eddie Griffin. Our waiter was real sweet and professional. But for all the years I've been going to the club I have never gotten food poisoning. And it's absolutely horrible. So with that being said I will continue going to the club just not for the FOOD AT ALL!!!! But if you want a good drink go for it. I would recommend that much. I have been going to Stardome for OVER 10 years. Saturday for the Gary Owen's show was the worst Experience EVER. The wings were undercooked and cold when brought out. They messed up my friends order . it was like the waiter didn't understand anything that was said. Then trying to get it fixed was a Hassle because as your waiting to get missing items the other part of your order gets cold. We paid 41.00 for tickets that still required drink/food min and they have Added Mandatory Gratuity Back Again. So u just paid Mandatory Gratuity for Crappy Service. read more

Had a great night of comedy watching John Morgan. He was really funny as well as the two opening acts. My husband and I laughed for most of the night. We had great seats up front however there is no bad seat here. Always a fun night when you can laugh and enjoy good comedy. The service was excellent from checking in to pick tickets up to our waiter who was very attentive to our needs. Always checking in with us to make sure we didn't need anything else during the show. This was a lack luster experience. They really did not have good customer service. The waitress was pleasant but got the order wrong twice for someone in my party. I enjoyed the entertainment but I truly think they should look at more efficient ways to serve customers. Where else could you be in the company of names such as"Shang and Pierre",(love this one).."Killer Beaz", AND "Earthquake"? Nope, not a wrestling match..a comedy club. Actually, it was pretty cool. The food is affordable, and the price of drinks won't cause you to live on rice and beans for the rest of the week. Our party consisted of 11 people...hungry, thirsty, and out for a good laugh!! We had quite a chuckle. One fellow worth mentioning is Earl...very laid back, and had me throwing my head back, and holding my sides!! He had some great material. There was a John Austin, also,..... very funny, maybe a little crude, a little loud, but had some great stuff. Other then one of our little troop putting her fingers in her ears for the majority of the evening...I must say a good time was had by all!!! This is one of many visits to the comedy club and it was great as always. I got in on the 12th free tickets and me and 8 of my girlfriends went and had a great evening for a Sunday night. The only thing that I don't like about the comedy club now is the new seating arrangements. With the new setup you are sitting side-by-side with your guess. Only if you are sitting in the sky box or in the tables right in front of the stage are you sitting in front of your guess where you can really have conversation but otherwise it's still the same a good place to go get a good laugh read more

This night was with Kenny Smith who I found to be more awkward than funny. But, others did seem to enjoy him. The best part was the opener for him. We had a weekday date night to see Dick Gregory on 6/15/2017. The host and hostesses were very helpful that we got the seats that we wanted in VIP. As soon as we sat down a waiter came to our table to check if we wanted to order or an appetizer. After a couple of minutes my wife ordered the Mitch Hedberger (a cheeseburger) and I had the chicken pasta. This chicken pasta was spicy the way I like it (Sorry no pic but took a picture of the receipt so you can see that I did, LOL!) The pasta had spicy sausage and you can choose for a $1 extra to add chicken or $2 extra to add shrimp. The taste of the pasta with chicken (I can't eat shellfish) was mouthwatering. The spicy Alfredo sauce, spicy sausage, and grilled chicken was a great combo of satisfaction. It is by far the best spicy chicken alfredo that I have had. Dick Gregory's nephew Mark Gregory was hilarious and what can I say about Dick Gregory other than knowledge, thought, and comedy all in one. I love the StarDome. read more

StarDome - Tab on a weekday date night - Comedy Clubs Near Me - Hoover, Alabama

Last night I made a return to the Stardome Comedy Club after an extended absence... I have always had good experiences through the years and really don't know why I have not been in years. But, this venue is well known for attracting the best comics in the industry. The theater is rather small, which gives an intimate, close up view of the performer on stage. As others have noted they do pack people in tightly so, be prepared to be close to your neighbors. But, the view of the stage is good anywhere, the lighting and sound systems are top notch. The food is uninspiring and bland. 2 steps below what you would find at any generic sports bar anywhere. But, in reality this is NOT where you go for a great (or even good) meal. We can a combo platter with chicken fingers, wings, fries and Onion Rings ($18) which was fine...Some have complained about the servers, but to me, they were doing a pretty good job if you consider the cramped quarters and the time constraints of getting everything done during a live performance. Last night's performer was Craig Shoemaker AKA "The LoveMaster". He performed for 2 hours of full speed comedy genius. We laughed so hard that we were exhausted when the show was over. Laughter is good medicine!! I'd say to my fellow Yelper's, don't forget about this bright spot in Birmingham's entertainment community. I know I won't!! read more

Preface: This review really doesn't pertain to the comic- she was very funny! Parking: kinda tricky in between shows. As soon as we found a parking spot across the street, several spots opened up in the actual lot. Might want to circle the parking lot for a closer spot just in case. Lobby Wait time: longer than expected Minimum: Every person must purchase $5...which is quite easy to accomplish with one menu item Complaint(s): My beverage came out correctly in a timely manner. However, my chicken finger basket, came out incorrect the first time, the second time the manager brought it out and it was incorrect again, finally the third time was a charm. Several people at our table asked for waters and those took 30-45 minutes to arrive. To add injury to insult when it was time to check out, my ticket was incorrect- after that was fixed, I gave my card along with other tickets/cards, our server returned, I left a tip and went on my merry way. The next morning something told me to check my account and I noticed that I had been charged over $130 from the neighboring table. DISAPPOINTED. I returned to stardome with documentation of the mistake and though the manager apologized and admitted to the mistake last night...I was not informed. Apparently the mistake was noted as I was being charged; however, the server was slack and did not mention anything to me, no apology, no...hey, this is what you can expect...no common courtesy! How horrible?! I can understand the mistake; however, it was irresponsible, disrespectful and rude to not own up to a mistake made with consumers monies. *I would strongly advise paying with cash if you anticipate enjoying a night of laughter....after all playing with OPP is not a laughing matter. read more

After reading reviews on Yelp I decided to go ahead and purchase tickets to laugh at Bill Bellamy jokes with my best friend a.k.a. my baby daddy. I read that there's typically a long line and to get there early since regardless of the ticket you buy, Regular or VIP, seating is up for grabs in both sections. Our show started at 6:30 and we arrived at 5:50-ish. There was no line, and we were some of the first to arrive. So we had a great selection of seat options in the VIP section (don't think, "Oh, VIP. How very fancy" it was not fancy and I did not feel important). When we left and the 8:45 show was about to start there was a decently long line waiting outside. So, I'm assuming the line situation depends on the time and the comedian. We got lucky since Bill had two shows that night and we opted for the early one. Now, the atmosphere. Meh. It was ok. Definitely lacked in any kind of decor or aesthetically pleasing dining situations. But hey, you're ultimately there for the laughs, right? The seating has tables and there is a food and drink service throughout the show. Our server Jarvis was great! And from what we could tell there were many servers buzzing around and people seemed to be receiving their orders in a timely manner. My Honeycomb and I started with margaritas. They were yummy, but jeez, $15 for a margarita, the things you do on date nights, no not that, this is a clean review. Anyways! We also hesitantly ordered the bacon wrapped pickles. We're from the south, so we know how bacon goes well with anything. However, these were unfortunately not so great. We actually unwrapped the last pickle and ate just the bacon. We hid the uneaten pickle from Jarvis under a napkin since he highly recommended the dish. After that margarita we were feeling adventurous and entered that state of, "Sure, let's order some more nasty food". We ordered "The Snack Attack" right before the giggle fest started. Now, the "Snack Attack" is basically a plate full of everything you need to have a heart attack. I'm adding photos so you can get an idea of how many vegetables you should eat to cancel this thing out. It's nothing special (perhaps frozen food even), but again, it's a comedy club, food isn't advertised as being their specialty. We munched on it while we laughed and ended up finishing only half of it. So, overall I would base your visit on the comedian and definitely not the atmosphere or food. The service was great. Also, drink responsibly. We used Uber, and P.S., we also ordered a second margarita. It was a fun date night with my Sugar Tots. :) read more
