I had not been to the StarDome in over five years. My husband had not been to the StarDome in over 10 years. I found out a comedian my husband really likes was going be at the StarDome during Father's Day weekend. I decided to order tickets online so I could take him to see this comedian. When you order tickets online, you have to pick up the physical tickets from the box office. They provide detailed directions on how to do that and when that's available. Our show started later than the time listed on our tickets because the comedian went over, which was not a problem for me. If the comedian is giving the audience more time, I'm cool with that. We waited in one of the bar areas to be seated. Once the door is open and we were able to be seated, we were set quickly in seats with a great view. You have to order a minimum of two items. I ended up ordering three things. The food was decent to me. It tasted like club food. We received our food and drinks in a timely fashion. The comedian was hilarious. We had a great time! Attended the Dolly Parton Drag Brunch, it was OK... Our purses were looked through and we were wanded at the door Upgraded our tickets for $10+ each to "reserved" which appeared to be first two tiers nearest the stage- we ended up requesting to move back one table so we weren't at stages edge~ almost under the stage No complimentary anything, (water) must purchase 2 items ( food or beverage). Bottle of water $5. Standard pub food- Although I ordered the Mediterranean plate which was raw veggies, plus Kalamata olives feta, pita, hummus and taziki sauce- VG Wine was satisfactory My friend had vodka martinis and reported them to be " good " Our server was GREAT, getting through the crowd to help everyone, pleasant and efficient 18% feet added on for everybody, so take under consideration when tipping ( we added more for our server, as she was stellar ) Event didn't begin until 22 minutes after its advertised start time, unprofessional at least The lighting needs to be improved especially for an event that has performers going into the audience and circulating as they perform- seemed like a single spot light from one angle only that was always lagging behind or not illuminating the performer at all... I've been coming to the Stardome for years and it seems like every time I come it gets worse. When you get there, you're just kind of thrown into one bar area or another bar area or they make you wait outside when it is the middle of June it makes for a very uncomfortable circumstances As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a security guard that was ready to wand the hell out of me, which I totally understand however, I just wanted to go get my ticket first. It's very jarring to walk in somewhere immediately be patted down without any sort of heads up. One of the security guards there I cannot stand he really lets the power get to his head. If you've been there, you know who I'm talking about. We waited in the main bar for which seemed over an hour at times I felt like I was gonna pass out because it was probably at least 80° in there and it was packed full of people. I felt so bad for the people outside. Because of potential bad weather they had canceled both shows on Friday and had added shows on Saturday at 4:30 and on Sunday at the same time. It was Nate Jackson playing that night and I had been looking forward to seeing him but at some point while I was waiting I really consider just going back home because I was sweating through my shirt. Also, I'm not sure why, but they stopped giving refills on sodas. The food is very underwhelming. The service was very good. I got mild buffalo chicken, but it was very spicy when I got it so the server did remove it off the ticket which I appreciated and gave her an extra 20% tip. I don't think I will be back during the summer because I can't stand to be that hot. They do have a new menu, but again the cheese sticks and the buffalo chicken was not very good. We arrived in plenty of time (nearly an hour before the show) to eat, so that we could enjoy both. We have a food allergy, but trying to honor the 2 item minimum purchase per customer, we ordered a soft drink each. The only thing GF on the menu was a salad without croutons, and the menu was sparse. After selling pricey tickets, if you still have an order minimum, offer a better selection, Stardome. Not everybody can eat bar food. The salad we ordered at 5:15 came out with the comedian at 6. Gratuity at 18% was added automatically for our party of 2 and there were no refills on the Coke I'd tried to mostly save to go with my supper. Then, the waiter brought our ticket to clear us out in the middle of the show we'd paid for. Aggravating to say the least. We enjoyed the clean comedy though. I appreciate that the opener was as clean as the main act. 2 stars for that and nice staff. read more

The comedians were amazing so was our server. Everything else has pretty much gone downhill here. Is there new management or something? We had to wait in a long security line and there wasn't a woman security guard for the women. Waiting in long security lines will be a mess during hot Alabama summers. A pervy man who clearly was staring at my chest scanned me with a wand. This was beyond uncomfortable. Some of us come from conservative backgrounds, where this is already breaking a first amendment religious right of ours to not be scanned or touched by a man who isn't our husband. And before you say this is America. Most devout Christian women would agree with me. Also, this is Hoover not an airport or a club in Bessemer or the ghetto. They were screaming at us to take our keys and phones out at the entrance. We didn't feel relaxed or welcomed at all. In addition, the food has gone downhill. The Cajun pasta gave both me and my friend an upset stomach because the chicken was old, gamey and hard. My tab was over $56 for two sodas, water and a cup of bad pasta with a foil butter swimming in it. Also, I came frequently in the past and you used to be able to come and buy tickets at the box office and it would relieve you of the $6-10 online processing fee. Now they make you show an id to retrieve tickets before every show and it's the same price online & in the box office. I'm just not impressed with the new rules. Whoever took over needs to chill. It's comedy. What are you doing managing a place that used to bring good vibes but now gives people food poisoning and security PTSD?! No wonder my favorite employees all quit. read more

If I could give this new way of doing things a zero, I would. When you arrive, you are told to wait in line. We waited in the first line for about 30minutes. At that point, they allow you in to get your paper ticket. Only 5 or 6 people are allowed in at a time. Once you get your ticket, you have to go back outside to get in the entry line. That was about another 15-20 minute wait. Once allowed in and seated, I immediately noticed that the menu has changed.....$24.00 for this crap!!!! The management staff is a complete joke if they think that this method makes sense. I have been coming to the STARDOME for over 25 years. This will be my last show! The security guard was very rude and it was unnecessary. The crowd was very chill and nothing crazy at all. There was miscommunication on where to go and how to flow to the inside. I understand safety but I'm not going to stand out in the cold when I can just walk back in the room that we were told to walk out of because the inside was supposedly ready. The food is awful, if you're going to aim to reach the two item minimum go for a soda and water, or nothing at all and pay the $8-$16. We spent upwards of $60 on food and beverages that were not worth the money at all. The show we saw was enjoyable. My friend scored free tickets for her bday. This is something that the Stardome had been doing for years. The show was good with Tony Roberts as headliner. We also enjoyed the opening act, who is from Bham. The Stardome requires a two menu item purchase for each person and adds a 17% gratuity. The food is good, prices are ok. Val was our server and she took really great care of us. The Stardome comedy club is a Hoover staple and known nationally. It continues to bring the best comics to our city for reasonable costs. The Stardome got only one star because of the dj's actions. To be clear, my server, Vida, did a great job with service. The food was pretty good too. She went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. The dj got into a verbal altercation with the comedian onstage. My wife and I, as well as surrounding guests, thought the actions of the dj were very unprofessional and disrespectful. The dj turned off the comedian's mic. Plus he turned up the music while the comedian was trying to close his show. The comedian had asked for a little more time to interact with the audience, prior to the dj's actions. Several audience members expressed their displeasure with the dj's behavior after the show. This particular dj was rude, and used profanity at customers. More specifically, he told my wife and sister to "stfu!" And they were not even talking to him directly. At this point, I don't want to visit the Stardome anytime soon! We've never witnessed anything like this before. But if this is what the management staff tolerates. Keep it! read more

We had an enjoyable night out. Attended the Sheri Shepherd show. We did get there early and got great seats. Sheri is such a funny star that we had to come and see her act. The emcee did a good job. Special K was so funny.I've wanted to see his act and finally did. Sheri related to the audience with her act Sheri did a q&a session after the show which was as fun too. Only issue was the snack attack we ordered has 3 wing pieces in it with just 2 chicken fingers for $20. Lots of fries and onion ribs but they could do better with the meat. Saw Carlos Mencia tonight. This was our first time here. Food was decent, no complaints. The show was great and there is no bad seat in the house. The only complaint I had was our waitress Whitney. She seemed like she just rather be anywhere else but there. The other waiters/waitresses looked much more friendly. WARNING: Look at your food/drink bill. Tip is included, however when you get the receipt to sign, it leaves a spot for tip like any normal restaurant would. If you don't look at your bill, you will never know that tip is included. It was a surprise to find that out at Will Call. We already had dinner before the show, and I certainly didn't not want a drink.. but here we are. On top of that, our server was not very attentive. We sat in an upper bowl, and watched the server in the row below us. He was personable, attentive with his customers, checked in with them, laughed etc Our server came to us when we sat down, and we didn't see her again for quite awhile. I have been a patron since they had the location on green springs. The comedians are always excellent. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. Great place to see a show the atmosphere can not be beat. However last night we ordered the sampler. The food came out in under five minutes. Onion rings and fries soggy. Looked like every item came out of the freezer section at Costco and with the speed it came out you have to wonder if the precooked all of it and then tossed it in a microwave to heat it up. read more

If you're in need of laughs, drive on over. I had The Snack Attack is a variety basket of wings, chicken fingers, onion rings, and fries, ranch, honey mustard and ketchup. I also had the WooWoo cocktail. It was good but needed an extra shot vodka. The service was a bit slow tonight and when the food came it was cold. The ambience was fun and entertaining. The music that the DJ play was jammin from the old school to the new school. Tonight was Coco Brown and she was HILARIOUS!!! The StarDome has been around even before I was born and this is a place to come see top A-list comedian perform live and in person. They did some major updates in the main room so everyone can see the stage without sitting awkward since the new seats are all facing the stages. The three times I'd been here, I always enjoyed my time watching the comedians having the whole audience laughing. Now, the service isn't the best and the waitress had an attitude with my friends just because they didn't want to order anything and the only reason they forced you to order is so they can get the gratuity fee. Everything on the menu is high and what make it worse is they act like the food is from a 5 star restaurant which in reality, is nothing more than fried food. It's crazy how they charge $9 dollars for mozzarella sticks that my friend order and you only get 6 pieces. Now, I did order buffalo chicken wings and fries and I'll be the one to admit that the wings were good, but my fries didn't have any type of seasoning and I can tell they weren't fresh since they were pre made which is worse if you're charging people for mediocre food. No seat is a bad one but the gentleman at the door knew we had been waiting a while(some of the first to get there) and it was my sisters birthday so he gave us a table right up next to the stage! However, I've never known them to make people with those tickets wait until everyone else is seated before seating them. Although we only used 3 of the tickets, we were not seated together. There was a larger group with the same tickets that was not seated at all because there weren't enough seats. The person who was offered the tickets kept saying how embarrassed they were. Came to Stardome tonight to see Brad Williams, paid for the premium tickets over a month ago, to get PREMIUM seats, and we're stuck in a "VIP BOX" furtherest space from the stage having to turn your head sideways to even be able to half way see the stage. When we asked why we were sitting the furthest from the stage, they said these are premium seats too. However in the picture included, when you purchase premium seating, you can see they advertise it as seats closest to the stage. We ended up getting to grab some seats that were a little better, but pics of where they tried to put us and where we ended up. Apparently, they sold EVERY seat at premium price, which is only $5 more, but if we would have known our seats were going to be given away on a first come first serve basis, we could have come early to get the seats we paid for over a month ago. Everyone around was talking about the seats and how shady this was handled, even the servers were confused how over 200 tickets were sold as premium for a space that only has a little over 100 premium seats. We were given the difference back that we paid for seats close to the stage, but this was not the experience we hoped for. read more

First time here to watch Danae Hays. Venue has a cool vibe, but the seating and food are reasons I won't be back. We arrived early, but got stuck in "box seating." There was a large group of middle aged women talking loudly the ENTIRE time. We had to sit against the back wall and literally couldn't hear the comedian. I enjoyed Karaoke Night with Rickey Smiley. I was concerned about the crowd but CDC guidelines were being followed. Masks were required and patrons were spaced apart fairly well. The wait staff was really good. They were fast and attentive. I ordered the Cajun pasta and a glass of wine. There is a 2 menu item minimum purchase for each person. Unfortunately this establishment denied me the pleasure of experiencing their venue to the fullest. They sold out of tickets to see Lavell Crawford. I tried to buy the tickets online the day before but they were gone. So, the next morning I drove 30 minutes to the box office to see if they would sell me one ticket. I was told to come back at the time of the show. I came back that evening and was referred to the manager. She told me to wait until the start of the show and check back with her. I explained to her that I was from California, it was my birthday weekend, and my brother had already purchased 4 tickets for this show. He wasn't sure if I would be in town so he didn't purchase one for me. Well, I didn't receive any compassion. Instead, she left me hanging. The venue was filling-up fast but it wasn't packed to the seems. Anywho, I did get a chance to check out their bar/lounge area. Seemed like a cool spot to take a few dranks back before enjoying a show. The food coming out of the kitchen looked appetizing and fresh. Servers were frequently coming in and out of the kitchen with trays. My brother and sister-in-law said the show was hilarious and they enjoyed all the comedians that performed that night. The crowd was grown and sexy. Security was present but not extra tight...although a police officer was there. I'm guessing this place could contend for four stars but since they left me out in the rain (literally) I'll leave it at 3...for now. I wound up seeing a movie down the street and that was perfectly fine with me...saved myself $40. read more

Several people have mentioned how much fun they've had on Monday nights for Karaoke with Rickey Smiley, I had to check it out. It did not disappoint. The energy was there from start to finish. It was really a great experience and having it on a Monday night really helps set the tone for the rest of the week. I don't know too many people who go to the Stardome and not partake in the food and beverages. In my group there was an order of wings, fries with queso, and potato skins. I had the potato skins and wished they had some type of seasoning on them. I did use ketchup along with the sour cream to doctor them up a bit. I also had to the Woo Woo that was fruity just the way I like my alcoholic beverages. Our orders were up pretty quickly which was a positive to the night. I like the Stardome and will definitely look for other shows but I may have to try Karoke one last time before it ends. read more

We went on a night that tickets were $10 or $17. We bought $17 tickets and still don't know the difference or perk we received. We even asked the staff at the will-call window and she didn't know. Seating on the floor is comfortable and spacious. And it appears that there isn't a bad seat in the house. Overall, the venue is nice, spacious and the staff is hospitable. I would return. read more

Normally I don't write long reviews, but I felt my experience should be shared this time. I have visited the StarDome on multiple occasions, birthdays, with friends, company functions, etc. All those experiences were positive, however my group's experience on 12/15/21 was less that stellar. In fact, it was an outright disappointment. My group of 7 were there for my fiancé's birthday. After being seated, for nearly an hour, not one of the wait staff asked if we had been helped, we've been here before so we gave benefit of the doubt as to the wait time. When an hour and a half passed and no one even offered us water, it became apparent that we were being ignored. Finally, I got up and asked a manager what was going on? A server did show-up eventually, but her attitude was definitely not inviting. She took our orders but still nothing to drink and we're now in the middle of the second act. By the time the headliner took the stage, we still have nothing, about half way through his act we finally got our drinks. Then after another 15 minutes our food came out, missing one of the orders. There was only 3 of us that ordered food. by the time the third order came the show was nearly over. It was only hot wings and fries; 4 plain wings and fries came and a cup of BBQ sauce, clearly not what was ordered. The guy who but said the manager he was told to tell us, "She said she sorry. " You'd expect a little better than that; like, the manager coming out and apologizing in person for the poor service. The next time we saw her, she coming around picking up the bills. While taking our bills, we asked why 'our' service had been so awful. She just kept saying sorry and asking if we like the show. Honestly, none of the comics were funny, but that is subjective. The manager was not able to offer any reasonable explanation for the lack of service or courtesy. She did ask us what could be done to help resolve our frustrations. We mentioned that comping the bills would be a good start, but she said that wasn't possible and again asked if we'd come back. WHAT?!?! Why would we ever come back??? I'd have to say this experience with the staff, has really changed mind about visiting again. People go where they feel welcome and enjoy themselves. On 12/15/21, we felt neither of these. Before I went to the StarDome on Friday I hadn't been there in years. I'm not sure how long it had been but probably close to 8 or 10 years. In that time they've redone the decorating to feel like a college class instead of the bundle of tables that I remember from my last visit. I do like this new set up. It makes it harder to talk to your companions while you wait for the show but are you really there to talk to them when you're watching a show? I guess if the show is bad, yes. But the show we saw wasn't so no complaints on that end. We saw Donnell Rawlins, who I didn't know anything about. My brother knew of him though and seemed excited to see him when I invited him. I had gotten free tickets for my birthday and I'm very glad that I did. I have no complaints about the show itself. I'd gladly see another Donnell Rawlins show in the future. I also enjoyed the opener, I think his name was Longhead? The show was very enjoyable and made the time fly by so I didn't realize how late it actually was even having been to the late show The place wasn't full of people but I feel like it was a large crowd. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. My real issues were (and I feel like it was also the issues my friends had) the two purchase requirement they have. Which, with the food and drink prices I guess it makes sense to have a minimum purchase. I paid 18 dollars for a meal that I didn't feel was worth 18 dollars at all. I got the vegetable of the day which was suppose to be a summer mix and it honestly seemed like it came from a can of veg all. The chicken was small, but okay. The salad seemed like a bag salad I could have bought myself. And the roll was a little hard and seemed like a frozen one. It came with a sauce that tasted like a weird potato soup and an orange slice. Which didn't seem to fit the whole theme of my plate. The prices feel very outrageous to me. My friend got the appetizer with chicken fingers, wings, fries, and onion rings. The onion rings were not good. I was the only person in my group that didn't get onion rings actually and they looked like they were frozen and tasted like the grease needed to be changed. She had also asked for the wings to be the lemon pepper flavor and they didn't look like they had been tossed in anything at all. I have no complaints about our server. It was loud and I couldn't hear her name but our receipt said her name was Kimberly. Although we started with one and ended with a different girl they were both nice and kept our drinks refilled well enough. I do understand why there is an automatic gratuity added to the bill though, I'm sure there's plenty of people that come and don't want to tip after seeing the prices they pay for food that honestly seems so overpriced it's laughable. I'm fine with paying 18 dollars for a meal that is worth it but I honestly felt like I was being scammed. If I had paid for tickets to be there i would have been extremely upset but as it was I guess I saved myself a little money in that regards. The chances of me returning are very slim.
