Before I went to the StarDome on Friday I hadn't been there in years. I'm not sure how long it had been but probably close to 8 or 10 years. In that time they've redone the decorating to feel like a college class instead of the bundle of tables that I remember from my last visit. I do like this new set up. It makes it harder to talk to your companions while you wait for the show but are you really there to talk to them when you're watching a show? I guess if the show is bad, yes. But the show we saw wasn't so no complaints on that end. We saw Donnell Rawlins, who I didn't know anything about. My brother knew of him though and seemed excited to see him when I invited him. I had gotten free tickets for my birthday and I'm very glad that I did. I have no complaints about the show itself. I'd gladly see another Donnell Rawlins show in the future. I also enjoyed the opener, I think his name was Longhead? The show was very enjoyable and made the time fly by so I didn't realize how late it actually was even having been to the late show The place wasn't full of people but I feel like it was a large crowd. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. My real issues were (and I feel like it was also the issues my friends had) the two purchase requirement they have. Which, with the food and drink prices I guess it makes sense to have a minimum purchase. I paid 18 dollars for a meal that I didn't feel was worth 18 dollars at all. I got the vegetable of the day which was suppose to be a summer mix and it honestly seemed like it came from a can of veg all. The chicken was small, but okay. The salad seemed like a bag salad I could have bought myself. And the roll was a little hard and seemed like a frozen one. It came with a sauce that tasted like a weird potato soup and an orange slice. Which didn't seem to fit the whole theme of my plate. The prices feel very outrageous to me. My friend got the appetizer with chicken fingers, wings, fries, and onion rings. The onion rings were not good. I was the only person in my group that didn't get onion rings actually and they looked like they were frozen and tasted like the grease needed to be changed. She had also asked for the wings to be the lemon pepper flavor and they didn't look like they had been tossed in anything at all. I have no complaints about our server. It was loud and I couldn't hear her name but our receipt said her name was Kimberly. Although we started with one and ended with a different girl they were both nice and kept our drinks refilled well enough. I do understand why there is an automatic gratuity added to the bill though, I'm sure there's plenty of people that come and don't want to tip after seeing the prices they pay for food that honestly seems so overpriced it's laughable. I'm fine with paying 18 dollars for a meal that is worth it but I honestly felt like I was being scammed. If I had paid for tickets to be there i would have been extremely upset but as it was I guess I saved myself a little money in that regards. The chances of me returning are very slim. I could pay the same amount of money and go to Firebird's where I get an actually delicious meal that costs less. read more

Once I paid $40 for a ticket, there was a two purchase minimum and an 18% gratuity. They do not serve sweet tea or have very many menu items for people watching their diet. I was disappointed to say the least. read more

Here on a date. Definitely a cute spot, it can get crowded so I suggest getting there early. The drinks are pretty good and the service is awesome. Depending on the night it can be a auntie festival. Other than that great atmosphere and great energy. The only downside is the seats are first come first serve so it's not guaranteed you'll get the best seats! I would definitely suggest coming here at least once if you're visiting the BHM area! read more

Place has changed/remodeled. Prices for the food you have to buy has increased too. I guess it is just the sign of the times. The last time I went here was NYE 18. Lavar Crawford was preforming. Mr. Crawford brought out his best work for the crowd. I digress, The servers, are not ever seen during the show except to take orders and drop you tab at the end. Don't expect refills or more food. There are not server buzzers on the table, so raise that hand. I think I will start watching comedy shows on my phone or the TV, cheaper that way. read more

5 star venue for comedy shows, but don't come here expecting 5 star meals. Most of the food is fried stuff so not much variety. And the prices are high. You would think with a mandatory 2 item minimum they would offer better quality food. read more

All I can say is that this is one of the best comedy clubs around. When my wife and lived in B ham we came here a lot. Brought friends from Mississippi tonight and my mouth is still sore from laughing. What I really liked was a mixed crowd of black and white and a mixture of comedians. As one of them said we are all family here. Amen to that. Great time with great friends. For those of you who give negative reviews it apparent you have first world problems. My wife and I, with friends have been here over the last three weeks and have had a great time. Service was great. If you don't like the food, eat before you arrive as we did. It's not about the food here. Drinks and comedians is what we are about. Couldn't breath after tonight!!! read more

Go for the laughs This is a comedy club and shouldn't be taken as somewhere to go for dining. The food options they have are basically burgers or tacos, as well as fries and nachos. There is also a good size drink menu. The downfall is that the service is basically non existent after you've gotten your food, food prices are outrageous and even after spending money on a ticket-an additional $5 minimum per person is expected. read more

I had the chicken quesadilla and my husband had some sort of pasta with sausages in it. Both things were REALLY good. It was one of the few times I've been over the moon with a restaurant pasta dish. The service and drinks were also top notch. We really enjoyed the evening read more

I couldn't find any reviews of the drag brunch before going today so I wanted to share one for everyone thinking of going. Overall, I would recommend seeing the monthly drag brunch here. The set up at Stardome is perfect for a drag brunch; all of the seating is pretty great. Don't go expecting a great brunch though. The waffles that come with the chicken and waffles are quite literally frozen eggo waffles and the "breakfast potatoes" are French fries. As long as you're there for the show and the experience and not a 5 star meal, you'll have a great time. read more

Food and drinks are extremely overpriced. The wings are decent but mine got there cold same as the fries. Fry type varies without warning. 18% gratuity added to alllll checks. Service great. The StarDome gave me free tickets to check out Tony Tone. That was so nice of them to do that, so I took a few girlfriends and had a girls night out. The StarDome used to have a $10 minimum requirement but I was told since they have a new menu, it is now a two item requirement. So I decided to get a soda and try their grilled chicken and shrimp Cajun pasta. And I must say, it was pretty good. The ingredients were fresh and the dish was seasoned very well. I wish they had more vegan options because my friend couldn't eat most of the items on the menu so she decided to just order a soda and some wine. Besides the food, the service was decent but once we got our food, we didn't see our waiter for awhile. Also once the show was over, we had to wait awhile to pay for our food. Besides that, the show was great. I thought the first comedian was going to get booed off the stage. Being a comedian is a tough job, and you have to have thick skin. The comedian Tony Tone was too funny!! He is very talented and had us laughing the entire time. The StarDome is a historic comedy club. Most great comedians have performed here which I think is so neat! All is all I had a great time! read more

I have always enjoyed coming to the Stardome for comedy shows but this time I was here for the Karaoke night. They have a happy hour drink menu which is nice. I enjoyed my drink that I had. The spinach dip that I ordered was not amazing and was a little cold with minimum flavor. The wings were better that we ordered with the sampler platter. The platter had a lot of food that you could split with someone or two. My service was pretty good especially since we came with a large party, The staff were accommodating with letting us sit in the sky box so we could all be together. The show was fun as usual and the atmosphere was welcoming. Will defiantly be back again soon. Note:They have changed the minimum from $10 to a two item purchase so be prepared. They also already add the gratuity to your ticket. read more

4 stars because I thought the space itself was great. It was nicer than some other comedy clubs I've been to. The waiters realized that we would have been a little cramped so they removed one of the chairs from our row which I really appreciated. 3 stars for the comedy that night, but I feel like comedy is a hit or miss. I'm also not a fan of the purchase requirement, but I've been to places that require two items be purchased so this was a little better if you get something small. read more

Late Review...been to stardome numerous times to see some of my favorite comics and they all were hilarious so I will definitely be back but my most recent visit during covid was definitely different but not all bad. Everyone was spaced out and the staff all wore masks. The waiters n waitresses were all great and on top of things but the menu was very limited. They still had the standard typical food. But once things are back to normal I'm hopeful they'll get more n better options. read more

I went with a group of coworkers & a great thing the club does is that they give away free tickets for your birthday. I thought the newly renovated place was very nice & clean. It seems to me that everyone has a good view of the stage. If you want to comedian to interact with you them you need to be right up front so they can see you. I had a Moscow Mule, the BBQ chicken fingers, & French fries & all were excellent. I the only minor annoyance I had all night is that the check includes the tip for the waiting staff. Everything else was great & we were even able to meet the comedians too! read more

The only reason why the StarDome is getting a 2 star and not 1 is because they do bring in some decent comedians - other than that the location, food and service are awful. We went this past Thursday to see Vicki Barbolak. We got there early and it seemed dead. The parking was completely empty and we wondered if it was even open. The StarDome is located behind the Hoover Best Buy off Lorna Road. Parking doesn't have that much lighting and it seemed like it is in not the best of neighborhoods. The outside needs some major updating or simply more lighting to reveal what it's all about. The inside has potential though. I do like how the seating is arranged. I believe everyone can see the acts from any of the seats they choose to sit in. It just needs some TLC. The workers were friendly, but service and food were horrible. I can't stand having to pay so much for microwaved mediocre food. Thank God gratuity of 17% was automatically entered in your bill otherwise the poor waiter wouldn't get a tip. We ordered ~$9.00 appetizer of bacon wrapped pickles. We thought these were bacon wrapped *fried* pickles, but when they came out it literally was bacon wrapped around a plain pickle spear. We were so hungry that we ate it anyways, but it was not good. For our main meal we ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and fish tacos. Neither one of us ate our entire meal. The Tacos were supposed to come out with chips and salsa as the side. When my meal came out there was no salsa. I asked for it and noticed it on our ticket that they charged us ~$3.00 extra to have it. It clearly said in the menu description that salsa was added. We didn't complain about it to the waiter because the service was horrible enough. We knew they'd find a way to mess that up and the $3.00 was not worth our time. The tacos tasted too fishy and was really spicy. I only had one bite. The grilled chicken was dry and plain. We kept saying we should have brought our own sauces or spices. Such a bummer. The only thing that was good was my drink - the woowoo. It was a beachy type martini. For the show aspect of things - the main comedian and her 1st act were great! It was exactly why we came. As for the host, we felt like he needed a little more practice or to simply loosen up a bit. He came out with notecards and it just seemed too "power point presentation" to us. He - too - has potential and seemed like a genuine guy. Maybe the night we went was just an off night, but hopefully they can pull some things together for an improvement. They have the acts they just need to polish the food and service! read more

We have visited the Stardome many many times, seen: Sinbad Chris Tucker Shawn Jones and many many more. The staff is very nice, always helpful, the club is very consistent in their operations. Clean restrooms. Drinks and food delivered fast. (First round is always a little slow but that is expected) Some recent positive changes: Forced Gratuity has been eliminated off the check. Things I would change: Don't force customers to buy tickets in pairs. I brought 3 people and had to pay for 4 seats. Not cool. The new DJ/Video DJ plays music so loud you can't talk across the table during the pre-show. Still overall a five star experience. read more

I have been to this place so many times. I dont even have enough fingers to count. My fiance and I come here at least 6 times a year. During our birthday month which is In January we get three free shows. Myself, Fiance, and sister. The food is alright, but the comedians are always funny. I've seen Mike Epps, Pops, Brandon Smiley, Tennessee Tramp, and so many more. This is a great place for up and coming comedians trying to make it. Overall this is a great hangout for groups and for couples night out. I will be back Saturday February 2, 2019 as a complimentary gift for my birthday, which was on January 19. This was my first time going to the comedy club since the new renovations and I must say I enjoyed them a lot! The service on the other hand has always been quite slow, which hasn't changed. We had seats reserved for a show but the club gave away our seats in a mix up. It was quite inconvenient but they did make up for it. Went to see Carlos Mencia tonight! Great time! Staff was great! Mario was our server. Drinks were good! We didn't eat here but we have before. It's what you expect when attending any comedy club. Nothing over the top but serviceable. I really don't like that they took away the option to buy reserved seating.. really puts the pressure on you to get there way earlier than really needed. Also we purchased VIP seating which equates to general admission seating. Disappointed with that for sure. BRING BACK RESERVED SEATING! thanks for your great and friendly service Mario!! read more

I've been too the Stardome several times now and I decided to come see Marlon Wayne's I really enjoyed the show and he was very funny but the service here was absolutely terrible it's bad enough that the Stardome adds the tip with your total which I understand that some places do things differently then others. Our waitress was not good at she had a very bad attitude and was very forceful in trying to make us order something and didn't allow us the chance to really look at the menu she didn't even check on us to make sure that we needed anything or if I wanted another drink. I understand the fact that the servers there have multiple people to attend, to make sure food and drinks are served in a timely manner but I do feel like she could have provided better customer service. I'm never coming back again this was the worst experience that I've had here read more

The new seating arrangement is awful! We went with couple friends and everybody is in lines facing the stage. Only a few tables in the whole place where you could sit and interact with the people you came with. The chairs are packed in so our elbows are all touching each other. You have to push your chair all the way back to stand up because there is zero space between chairs. They added probably 20% more people but the kitchen is apparently the same size! It took one and a half hours to get our food!!!!!!! Zero apologies. 18% tip is automatically added to your ticket!!!! The "Philly cheese steak" bun was only 2/3 full, no peppers and onions, overcooked meat. The pre-show videos are filled with dancing girls that are wearing thongs and stuff. Not what my wife wants to watch, hello? The loud musical sounds and announcements hit 100 decibels on my iPhone app. (that is loud enough to cause pain!!!!). The whole night was so stressful we could not enjoy the show and the great comedy. WE WILL NOT BE BACK EVER. Used to enjoy the place, been a bunch of times before they amped everything up and jammed in more people. read more

I love a good joke. Where else can you go to get good laughs, good drinks, & good food?! (If you know of somewhere else, let me know) My coworker Sharon got free tix for her bday & invited me to come along. Not my first time here, but who thinks to review The Stardome?! The comedians were awesome! We laughed the entire time we were in our seats. I ordered the Potato Skins (minus bacon) as my starter, not realizing it was coming out with my meal. But nonetheless, they were bomb. So bomb, I practically ate that as my meal! There were 5-6 halves with cheese. Lettuce & sour cream came in the side. They were hot so blow! I also ordered the Cajun Pasta with Shrimp minus the Andouille sausage! This no pork thing is gonna kill me.... It was delicious! It was seasoned so well, I didn't have to add a thing except butter to my dinner roll! It was so much that I didn't eat it all! (Lunch for the next day) Applebee's could take a cue from their book on the pasta! I also got to taste the chicken quesadilla & it was good too!!! The chicken was well seasoned! The strawberry margarita on the rocks was a bit too sweet so I got mine frozen which was better! Little tip: If Mike Bonner is doing a show, YOU WANT TO BE THERE! read more

This place was great! I wish we had a place like this in the Montgomery area, but it's not a bad drive up to B'ham; especially for a date night at a comedy club. The bartender made us a really good Turkey 101 & coke (more Turkey than coke, just how we like it ) before the doors opened for the show, and the owner hung out with us for a bit chit-chatting; I can't recall the performers that night but there were 3 guys, two starters and the headliner, and all were very entertaining. The food was really good and came out very fast. the servers were on the ball all night long and kept the food and drinks flowing. We will definitely be going back. read more

I really enjoyed the acts at my show. Henry Cho was the headliner and I was really impressed the club can attract nationally known acts to Birmingham. The seating is nicely arranged so everyone can get a good view of the stage. My main issue is with the food/beverage purchase requirement. I understand why they need the requirement because the ticket prices themselves are not high and probably can't cover the talent. But if you're going to force us to eat there, at least make the food taste good. I ordered a salad with chicken and the chicken was completely bland and the croutons burnt. I split a brownie sundae with my date and the quality of the ice cream used was low (could taste ice crystals with each bite). My drink order was a dirty martini and there was not enough olive brine in there which threw off the taste. My tab was $40 for the food/beverage and I just feel that what I received was not worth it. read more

There isn't much to say about this place...It is a comedy club, some of the comedians are funny and some not so much. I did take the liberty to order food while here. Their Tilapia Fish Tacos are pretty darn good and the service is just okay. Lincoln was my server and he was very nice and very efficient, but sadly after he brought my food he never returned. I would definitely return and i'd definitely try other menu choices as well. As for their cocktails, I've had the Woo Woo and it was pretty good, but just like going to a bar it was juiced down.
