This place has been around for a while and it looks like they have gone through some changes with menu. They used to serve HK cafe style dishes around the lunch hour and then switched to dinner in the evenings. We came mid week for dinner and the place was empty but later a few more tables filled up. They clearly have regulars. Prices are on the higher side and like most Chinese restaurants that serve dinner they have combination sets that start in the 100 dollar range. Service was okay but a bit pushy to try to get us to buy the membership card which we could use towards one of the combination sets. Was difficult to have a good look at the menu with someone hanging over your table asking what you wanted to eat over and over. Glad that I came here today! I have been hearing good things about Starchiva for long time, and I learned that this location has dim sum option, so this place is perfect for our regular Saturday lunch-eat-out! Bit small place compared to other popular dim sum establishment. The seats were almost full but we were lucky to find a table immediately. We tried the following items. #S02 Har Gow #S09 Minsed pork and shrimp stuffed bean curd sheet roll #S10 Sticky rice with chicken in lotus leaf #S19 Steamed pork dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) #D02 Pan fried beef ribs in honey glaze #D05 Deep fried glutinous chicken dumplings #R04 Steamed matcha crispy shrimp rice roll #R01 Yeung chow fried rice with shrimp & BBQ pork Honestly, everything was sooooo good!!! (oh, except for S19 XLB - apparently machine made). My partner and I were both impressed by R04, the rice roll's matcha flavour is nice addition to this dish, refreshing, all the more because the inside is deep fried shrimp. The shrimp is big, crispy and plumpy, the textural contrast with the matcha aroma were amazing. We also agreed that S10 was exceptional. A lot of textures with different ingredients. The egg york did not come as a whole, but were spread into each bites. Chewy sticky rice and each bite is the perfect balance of textures and flavours #S02 was FULL of plumpy shrimp, #S09 was super juicy. #D05's stuffing was not sweet (my preference!) and the out was light and crispy. Not going to fluff this review and try and get to the point This location is one of 3 from the Starchiva brand. This location is located in a plaza right off of Yonge and Hwy 7 and faces across a Loblaws. Starchiva recently entered into serving dim sum (hoo-ray!) and actually has a sister restaurant located right next door called Asian Queen. The difference essentially is Asian Queen ambiance is a bit more "low key" and not fancy, and they do not serve tea or charge a tea fee. They do have tea and water, but its a bit more self serve. Otherwise Starchiva and Asian Queen serve EXACTLY the same food My other half and I came with our daughter on family day (so regular holiday pricing, this is not the weekday morning special) so this review is a bit more focused on the family aspect of things Pros: -Lots of parking -They do have wood high chairs -Charged tea fee only for adults ($2.50 each), our daughter was excluded Cons: -Charged 12% service charge for a table of 2 adults with one child automatically -Asked how we would pay and in Cantonese we said "look card", handed us a machine and the waitress flipped out on us after the transaction went through saying "ai ya! Its a Visa! We HAVE to charge another $5!". Told her no.......can you refund me and I will pay debit. So tack on another 15 minutes to get this straightened out. Other dim sum places accept credit card when paying the non discounted price Dont know why if you dont accept credit then why let the machine take it? *shrug* -No space for a stroller or infant car seat, so your child must be able to sit in a high chair otherwise be ready to get lots of dirty looks for the lack of space -Speaking of space it is a lot more smaller then a dim sum banquet hall. This is a RESTAURANT first then dim sum second, so its a lot more tighter -As everything is tighter EVERYTHING on the table is basically within arm reach of a 3 year old. Hot tea, hot dim sum, ceramic cutlery anything you want to keep away from your child literally has to NOT be on the table -Chairs are tough to work with if you have a booster seat -Service is SLOW - We were the ONLY table in the entire restaurant and we were still asked if we had a reservation -Being the only table in the restaurant they still took 20 minutes to get our first dish out (maybe they went next door to Asian queen to get it?) -Input our order wrong, missed a dish and mixed up another dish -Food was nothing spectacular and happens to be the SAME price as anywhere else (starts at $5.50 for small) or more. Would not recommend this place for dim sum for a family with a young child, but for others it may work. But then on the other hand I dont know why would you come here when there are other dim sum restaurants in the area charging the same price but you would get better service and enviroment. read more

We tried to go to Asian queen for dim sum next door, but it was packed and we would have needed to wait at least half an hour. We decided to try Starchiva since it is the same chain of restaurants. The door was heavy and hard to open. The restaurant is pretty small, but it was more spacious than asian queen. The menu was the same as asian queen. We got our usual dim sum dishes and also tried out the starchiva fried vermicelli dish which was $22.99 and we really enjoyed it. Has meat, shrimp, egg. The dim sum tasted as usual just like at Asian queen. They charge $2.50 per adult for tea fee but we have the vip card so that was waived (note we went on a weekend). We paid with cash and got 10% discount with the vip card. There's automatic 12% service charge on the receipt (i think asian queen the automatic service charge is 10%). We were glad we tried Starchiva for dim sum. Was way better than waiting half an hr to get into asian queen! We were glad to have the vip card. read more

I've never had such good service at a Chinese restaurant. Everyone was so friendly and attentive. It can get busy so I recommend making a reservation here. We ordered the $168 lobster combo. It's a great value, it comes with a soup, veggies, lobster, scallops,chicken and desserts. Everything is so tasty and portions are generous. They have two locations, this location sells bakery items as well. There's also a lunch and breakfast menu which I will definitely be coming back to try. Highly recommend this place! read more

What a gem! This place is located at bayview and Hwy 7. It is right across Loblaws and next to Tim Hortons. Since it is pretty new, the Sunday night dinner is not busy. Also the menu looks a bit pricy, but each dish is huge. I ordered a marinated duck set dinner for 4. All dish is tasty and in large portion. Although it costs $108 but I guess it can have 4-6 person portion. Every dish is tasty. Beef and broccoli, shrimp veggie, soup and even cake dessert like tiramisu are great! Friends also ordered satay beef with veggie in fried rice noodles. Everyone praised the noodle fried is crispy and chef paid a lot of attention to make it. We also ordered soy sauce chicken is well made The other side is bakery. Although each bun sold expensive, but it always has "buy 2 get 1 free". Hence it made more reasonable price. There is lots of parking. 6 of us paid $32 include tax and tips with 6 dishes and fried noodle and we have to use 3 big box to take leftover home. read more

Starchiva delight is the second location of starchiva restaurant serving as a cafe/bakery/restaurant. Between the two locations, I actually prefer this one as the service here is unbeatable. This location is not as fancy and smaller but service is amazing and they are so generous with their desserts. The quality of food is also the same, if not better in my opinion. Our favourite is their lobster set meal that's shareable among 4 adults. They have breakfast/lunch service with bakery goods for sale which I have not tried yet, but I'd be interested in checking it out next time around! read more

Super good customer service, we feel at home when we are greeted. We are three people group and they let us to sit at a table for 10 as there were no other empty tables. The gesture won 5 stars from the beginning. We ordered sour and sweet pork and five flavored duck, unfortunately the duck was sold out (although it was only 7:30pm at the time) then we changed to Vancouver crab with vermicelli which was quite tasty, but we just wished the crab legs could be cracked open by chef before serving like other seafood restaurants do. The cost was $28 per pound, so we got one crab about 2.6 lbs, the crab itself costed almost $100. We also ordered the shrimp and scallop with veggie, substantial size of fresh tasted shrimp and scallop, good to order. Sour and sweet pork is as normal, crispy outside, no complaint about that. So we only ordered 3 dishes, dessert and tea was complimentary. The total cost with tax and tip comes at almost $200. Not a cheap meal, it may be a better choice to order than Vancouver crab combo at $148 with more dishes and better dessert. read more

I've been here a couple of times for dinner - the food is generally average-good and the ambiance is decent. Well-lit, nicely renovated, and as evenly spaced as a Chinese restaurant can be. However, menus are on the pricey side and it gets quite loud. Around $430 tax and tip incl. for the 8 dishes attached below as photos. It's generally quiet on weekday nights but gets pretty busy on weekends (reservation likely necessary). I've never had an issue with service before until tonight. The male waiter was rude, impatient, and unsanitary. He wore the same pair of gloves for everything - cleaning dirty dishes, taking cash, taking orders, bringing food, etc. His gestures were hasty and careless. He brushed his soiled gloves against my jacket as well as my hand a few times.. I had to wipe down my jacket because it got wet. He was also rushing us to finish eating - he kept gesturing at us to hand him dishes AS we were still taking food from them (we were already the last seating of the night). Worst of all, he talked back sarcastically when asked what was being served for dessert! After we paid and stood up to leave, he insisted we take the leftover desserts home so we wouldn't waste them (very low quality cakettes that aren't even worth the calories tbh) and proceeded to sloppingly box them up while contaminating them with the bottom of another dish... Basic courtesy goes a long way and this server seemed to have no fcks to give. Because of that, I can't say with good conscience that I would choose to come here on my own accord or recommend it to others. If you do come, pray that you get a good server! read more

This is the Bayview location: If I can gave 0/5 I would have. We ordered some dim sum during lunch. We waited for 30 minutes and food did not come. It's weird because dim sum food is easy and quick to cook. And plus there were so many empty tables. Asked politely for ETA of our food the older lady said food was in progress and food should arrive. I was getting very hungry so I had to buy something small at Tim Hortons while waiting. 10 minutes later, food still did not come, while other customers who came later than us and got their food. We decided to leave and told the waiter that we are leaving and we will pay for our dim sum pp and tea fee. The waiter said there is no need as they have already cancelled our order before us reaching to them. We believe they did this to us because they cannot profit from our table. A Tip for you everyone: Order their set menus or dishes that are minimum $67 plus and you will be served very well and quick. Anything less you will be treated like how we were treated. No customer service for you and your table. And you will be lowest in priority, no first come first serve. Was planning to take our family here soon and spend over $100, but will never come here. This is specific to the Bayview location. Food is fine. But service is unacceptable. Waiter who served us had a bad attitude. He wasn't welcoming and was blunt on all questions we asked. We came on Christmas Eve at 7:30pm. Restaurant supposed to close at 9:30pm. At 8:30pm, we were still eating, and he tried to pack stuff up for us! We stopped him. Then he came back a few minutes later to try to pack and I stopped him again. He then came back in a few minutes again. At 8:45pm, while I was still eating, he started packing our left over regardless to rush serving the dessert. He said usually the restaurant is empty by 9pm (that's your problem). Then I realized there was still a big group in a room. Why rushed the guests? There's still another 45 mins before you the restaurant is officially closed. Honestly, food was not bad. But service was unacceptable. I would never come back to this restaurant. If it's not before Christmas, I would have yelled at them. Horrible answers to questions: Question: I saw this dinner set online, is it available? Answer: Not available. Only these that I brought are served. Even if you find that set in other menu, I won't placed the order for the dinner set you want, the chef will not make it for you. While the guy was packing the food while I was eating... Question: What's the dessert for tonight? Answer: It's red bean soup. Question: Can you make sure it's hot? Answer: Heat it up hot again? If you don't get it now, I don't think you'll even get it. Kitchen is closing (implying no heating). It turned out the red bean soup is completely watered down. It's the worst I've ever tasted. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had in any Chinese restaurant in GTA for the 30+ years I am in Canada. read more
