This is an excellent Starbucks location that is relatively spacious, not too busy but with enough people to feel the energy and conveniently located to many other shops and restaurants in the Del Mar Highlands Center. Also has all the coffee and food offerings of any other Starbucks. Finally, I believe it has been around since I was in high school so has been in the same location for more than 20 years. Located in the heart of Carmel Valley This Starbucks is located in a nice hoity-toity part of San Diego in the Del Mar Highlands Town Center. The interior is very spacious with regular and high tables and a long table. I ordered my usual Mocha Cookie Crumble and hubby shifted from his regular drink and had the Pumpkin Spice Frappe. Service was fast and employees were friendly. When the store is not busy a team member should come out and wipe down the tables, though. You will need a code if you want to use the bathroom. The worst. Long nightmare story as short as I can make it. Friend picked up my drink. When he brought to me, I saw it was made wrong. I went into to the location, went inside to ask them to remake it. The boy at the counter refused to look at the cup, take the cup, read the cup or even ask the reason it needed remade. He blatantly refused to remake it saying I needed a receipt. I told him my friend didn't think to ask for a receipt and one was not offered to him. I asked for a manager, her said he was the manager, I asked the his name, he refused to give his name. I asked if he was in charge of the store, he said no, I asked who was? He said she's on a break. I ask him to ask her if someone could please remake my drink. He went to the back, came back out and said she will be on her break for 10 more minutes and I can wait to ask her myself. I asked him her name he reluctantly gave it as Kyla. (Not sure how to spell) I told him I would be calling corporate to find out what the remake policy was since he refused to do it. I told him I needed his name because I'm sure they're going to ask who I talked to. He basically whispered his name and said Alex. I don't even know if he gave me a fake name. I left the store, threw the drink in the trash, called corporate, told them the story. They apologized saying he was in the wrong. I now go to Black Rock or Better Buzz. The place was crowded early morning surprisingly! The baristas worked at good pace and got orders out in a timely manner. They had a huge area at the end of the bar with mobile orders that were just melting away, haha. How tragic for those people. The lady that took my order was really sweet, she informed me how many pumps go into the cafe latte and I ordered one less pump. I could have just went with one pump rather than two. They usually do three pumps for tall caffe latte. // iced cafe latte with two pump hazelnut syrup. It was overwhelmingly sweet and too milky for me. I'd never get this again. Lol, I don't know if they look at me and think I'm a child but for a while now the drinks keep coming out REALLLYY milky. Hey guys! Great news! If you order any drink with no ice at this place, they will fill your drink only to 3/4 of your cups! I ordered two venti today with no ice and they told me they had a new manager that tell them it's the new policy that request no ice will no longer be filled up but a size like grande. Be aware that even if you didn't order venti but other size, it's the same when you request no ice. Other Starbucks that I've been go to always serve fill even without ice. Idk what's wrong with the new manager, but I'll definitely let people visit other Starbucks And don't get me wrong, I paid the the venti size amount and it doesn't matter if I want ice or no. I placed a pick up order to get on my lunch break. I came in and my drink was not made while the employees were just standing there talking. They didn't realize my pick up order had came through and apologized and said they'll make it right then. I understand mistakes happen as I work in customer service as well so i said no worries im going to get a few things while im here in Ralph's. I come back and my drink still wasn't made and people that were ordering at the counter were getting their drink before me. There was a guy taking some orders at the register while there was a girl who was supposed to be making the drinks talking and flirting to another customer instead of making my drink. I'm standing there for 20 mins past the time my drink said it'd be ready. Finally when the guy was done taking an order at the register and got the girl's attention to finish making the drink. Then they're whispering about something and finally go "did you want whip?" when my drink clearly says NO whip bc i am lactose intolerant. This is the closest Starbucks near my cycle studio ! Surprisingly, I've only been here a few times. Location/ambiance: In the heart of Del Mar Highlands and near other businesses that I visit often such as Ralph's, Jimbo's, and Rite Aid. There are many restaurants and shops nearby so it's a great one stop shop for people. Parking is never an issue for me as it's at a shopping strip where parking is plentiful. It's also less hectic coming in and out of this shopping strip compared to the location in Pacific Highlands on Carmel Valley. Interior is quite small compared to other locations. They have a pick-up window for your orders and a station for napkins/straws. There is also seating indoors and outdoors. Customer service/ordering process: For some reason they no longer take mobile orders, which is annoying. That feature is usually easier for me and saves me time on my morning commute. The few times they did accept mobile orders I was able to get my drink within minutes at the pick-up window. I'm assuming they don't have enough staff to handle the orders. The few employees I met were friendly and nice. I didn't get any greeting though, but I'm assuming they were busy with orders. I will say it makes a difference when you are greeted. I worked in customer service and it's always a pleasant experience when you greet someone. It literally takes a few seconds. Unsure if they will continue to not accept mobile app orders, which is a bummer. I'm usually on the go in the morning and I may have to come in extra early just to save time. It is less busy than the other location I frequent so it's a second option for me. All in all, my order has always been right so I can't complain too much. 3.5 stars! I'd bump it up to 4 stars when they start accepting mobile orders again. read more

This Starbucks is located in the Del Mar Highlands right at the end of the main driveway off of DM Heights. It's a fairly good sized place with plenty of seating inside and a patio just outside the door with a couple of furniture sets. It's always busy with students, being across the street from Torrey Pines High School and down the street from Cathedral Catholic. There's a fairly consistent line whether by day or night. It has one of the later closing times for coffee in the area. The staff are all great here. I know it typically seems to be a revolving door of staff, but the quality doesn't drop off if your fav barista isn't in the house that day. The misto was alright but it did have an unpleasant harshness towards the end. It was a medium roast via Pike's Place. It's usually pretty smooth when used in a misto but not today as much. The multi grain bagel was very nice. It was toast just enough to allow the Kerrygold natural butter to melt into the bagel. The bagel had a good crisp exterior and soft moist chewy inside. I can get frustrated a lot of the time when Starbucks have a drive-through because they place their priority on people in the drive-through which often leaves me waiting for coffee for almost 30 minutes. I love this location because there is no drive-through which forces everyone to get out of their car and also means that no one is a priority over the other person. Upon ordering, the staff was very helpful in making recommendations on something new to try and the barista made an effort to say my name correctly which never happens. I really wish I lived closer to this location because it would be the only one that I would go to, so Lucky you if you have the spot close by. Worst service. On April 7th, I ordered a non-fat latte through mobile order but received a latte with chai syrup. On April 8th, I went back to the store to tell what had happened. They are usually open later than other locations in the area. But beware, this location is often busy not only with the line but seating can be hard to find at times. This Starbucks was closed more than any other location in the area during early covid days and still may be randomly closed or closing early if you stop by. Order ahead is never available at this location either for some reason and it seems like teenagers run this place. They have the friendliest staff I've ever encountered! I always get a Nitro cold brew through their mobile app and they don't pour it until I get into the building. They told me that Nitro cold brew is really good when it's fresh. I know that they are extremely busy and for them to look out for their guests takes hospitality to the next level. Another great experience is when they ran out of the food item that I wanted and they refunded and gave me a gift card so I can get the item when I come back. It's just like any other Starbucks really, the coffee is consistent of course so the only other thing to talk about would be the customer service and location. The customer service has been great each time I've gone. The lines tend to be longer at this location but in my experience they've move fast which is a plus. Per usual, the drinks are made in the order they are received and it usually takes anywhere from 3-5+ minutes before they are ready. I haven't had any mistakes with my drinks....then again, I don't usually request complicated drinks lol. The interior looks like any other Starbucks, they have their condiments table, their wall display with their mugs and coffee near the line, and food/pastries near the register. I came in this location and I had the nicest Barista her name is Cuppy ..... she is my favorite server that I ever had at any of the Starbucks locations that I've been to in the United States..... and I very much respect whoever hired her because usually they hire people that are just too young and then don't really care about people and customers and giving good service so it's nice to see that they Expand and hire people of All Ages as they should, anyway my favorite are the Iced Teas pumpkin spice latte s'mores Frappuccino green tea latte, I highly recommend never using milk in any of your drinks always use almond milk or *Coconut milk because it's so much healthier and more Nutritious..... A pretty decent Starbucks location. This is probably one of the more popular ones since it is located in the Highlands Shopping Plaza. Parking may be a slight struggle at certain times of the day since this lot is shared with Ralph's and other various stores located in the upper part of the plaza. The drinks here are typical Starbucks quality drinks, but it's the staff that makes this place better than other places. Everyone is very friendly and kind and attentive!
