Parking is just on the other side of the gas station, which makes for a bit of an awkward walk through the gas pumps. There isn't much seating inside, but there is a decently sized patio. Staff were friendly at this location (not that they're not friendly at others). One was stationed by mobile pickup orders and would greet customers as they entered and exited. The cashier was great in assisting me in ensuring that my order was over a certain amount so that I could earn bonus stars (an additional shot did the trick). Since there were many baristas working, it seemed like it only took a minute for my order to be completed.

You order, wait inside for your order, then exit the gas station side. They have a nice outdoor patio with 10 tables. Each table has a notice that says max 4 people per table and to respect social distancing. There are markings on the patio floor indicating where tables should be located. The area can be extremely hot in the summer with full sunshine. There is WiFi. It is not clear if you can use their washroom.

This cafe does not have a drive-thru, likely because you can't fit a second one with McDonald's monstrous version on the other side. I found a parking spot fairly close to the main entrance. I backed into the spot and then walked into the cafe. This Starbucks has a comfortable vibe. Most of the seating is by the door. However, there are also some seats further down. It is a deep cafe, with the washrooms at the back right corner. There was one person ahead of me ordering. It allowed me to check out the menu while I waited in line. I got a friendly barista who asked how I was doing. It was nice. I was getting reacquainted with Pickering! I ordered a grande iced peach green tea. She then scanned my Starbucks card's barcode off my phone. I like that I don't have to say my name. The scan provides my name automatically in the ordering system. I waited patiently for my drink at the pickup counter. There was a couple and a man there. The coolest part of this cafe is seeing the order status screen that has three columns: - Received - In progress - Ready My order went into the received column. As I waited, I saw my name move over to the in-progress column. I didn't bother looking at it when my order was ready. Another female barista had my drink ready. I thanked her and wished her a great evening. She reciprocated. I took a paper straw. I then headed out the door and to my car. My drink was perfect. It was peachy, cold, and yummy. I'm glad that I dropped by to get a beverage. Of note, there's another Starbucks across the street, at The Shops at Pickering City Centre. I know it as Pickering Town Centre. I have a feeling that locals still use the old name. I like this cafe because I'm not tempted to buy a ton of stuff at a mall while getting a beverage! It's a nice cafe. I looked at the sign that was advertising the dragon drink. I love the mango dragonfruit refresher. I get it fairly often. This drink had coconut beverage in it. Funny. I never thought about doing that combination. Yet, it's my go-to choice when I order the strawberry drink. There was only one barista on staff. She was busy fixing a drink. I was in no rush. I put my large bag of groceries on the counter and waited patiently. This barista was both friendly and cheerful. I ordered the dragon drink with coconut beverage. She nodded in agreement and said that she drinks it that way, too. I asked whether I can still swipe my Longo's rewards card at Starbucks, as it has been a while for me. Yep! I used my mobile app to pay for my beverage to get Starbucks reward stars. Double-dipping for points is fun! I waited patiently for my drink. I looked at all the discounted Christmas merchandise, including cute plush bears and tree ornaments. The cafe area where you can sit down and enjoy your goodies looked clean and inviting. There are a few places that I need to review again. My local Starbucks is one of them…read more I have been a customer here for over a decade, well before I knew what Yelp was. I have met some fine baristas over the years, who have gone on to different careers because working here got them through college or university. This store has a high turnover of baristas, mainly because it's often a training store. I am a pretty patient person and I don't mind being a part of their training process. Lately, the current set of staff have not made my experiences pleasant. It has been building since the early part of 2021. One time, I decided to redeem my points towards a tumbler using the Starbucks app. It said that the tumbler was in stock. I also ordered a drink. When I approached the drive-thru, I indicated that I had a mobile order. The man said that it was out of stock. I stated that the app had it available. He maintained that he didn't have it and that he'd give me a refund in the form of a gift card, rather than reloading stars. I talked to this barista, who was the lead this day. I asked why the app didn't reflect their inventory. He simply told me to contact their head office. Um, no. It's not my responsibility to get your lack of updating your inventory and syncing it with your mobile app. The onus is on Starbucks to fix these issues. Telling me to report it is lazy. I'm reporting it to you now. Make it happen. During the same visit, I had another barista ask whether I had ordered "just" an iced black tea. The use of "just" by main staff members here is unnecessary and was ongoing for at least two months. To confirm that you have my order, rattle it off without the "just." I usually reply by saying, "It's only me. One drink is enough." My alternative is, "You aren't just a barista. You are a barista that folks would think that you do important work." Why just? Just do you job by not implying that my order isn't as large as you'd like it to be. I took up that beef with the lead. He indicated that his team often has chats and will discuss it. I will say that I don't get "just a drink" thrown at me as often these days, but coming here to deal with this nonsense has made me drop by less often than I used to. There are a couple of regular barista that I enjoy seeing and chatting with. There are some new ones who are pleasant and great getting my orders from. However, I simply don't enjoy coming here. The lines are often long and I have often waited half an hour for my drink. I am patient, but I see that other Starbucks cafes near me do not make me wait that long and are far more pleasant. The latest experience was ordering through the app, indicating that I had a mobile order, getting to the window, and being advised that staff were brewing black tea. The barista said that someone would come out with my drink in five minutes and that I should park off to the side. I first parked in the parking lot. Ten minutes went by. Nothing. I then parked in front of the patio. No one. Illegally parked, I put on my mask and headed towards the front door. I was met by a barista who had no clue who he was handing the drink off to until my eyes met his. I was thankful for my drink, but waiting fifteen minutes for it was longer than promised or anticipated. There is plenty of parking. I'd avoid parking in front of the cafe because it does get busy with Popeyes and Jeon Ju Hyang next door. Here's hoping that things get better. In the meantime, I'm averaging a visit here once a week or two because it's no longer my favourite place to grab a drink. Sad, but true. (351)
