The First Sip Coffee House - Dine in mugs, Texas Kolaches & lemon bar

The First Sip Coffee House

Today was my first time visiting this super cute and cozy coffee house, in small town Coldspring. I…read morewas greeted with a friendly face, the menu was simple but had Greta options, and the outside, covered porch complete with rocking chairs was the perfect place to catch up with some friends, especially on a drizzly morning. I don't go to Coldspring often, but would go back if it meant stopping at The First Sip!

Thumbs Up: This is the only coffee shop in the tiny village of Coldspring, which can save locals…read moreand visitors the drive to the nearest Starbucks in Livingston, Texas. Thumbs Down: However, that time-saving depends on how many people are in line. It can take over 20 minutes just to place a drink order... almost enough time to reach Livingston. I'd recommend hiring an extra worker to help during peak hours, especially on weekends when lakehouse traffic picks up. Thumbs Down: On the topic of peak hours, the business used to have unpredictable hours. For the longest time, no one knew when it would be open. It often opened so late that anyone commuting to Houston might as well stop elsewhere. As one neighbor put it, "They're open only when they feel like it." Thumbs Up: The shop is nicely decorated and offers card games to keep kids entertained while waiting for drinks. Thumbs Up: At the time of this review, they were also giving out free stickers with uplifting or inspirational messages. Neutral: Much of the decor and available books are Christian-themed, so visitors of other faiths or non-religious patrons may want to be aware. Thumbs Up: The staff is very polite, which is a welcome contrast to the rushed, no-nonsense service often found in cities. Thumbs Up: The coffee is good. Thumbs Up: And for such a small shop, they offer a surprisingly wide variety of drinks.
