So today, I took my usual trip to the regents plaza/center to get Einstein's but the line was WAY too long and I only had 5 minutes to get food. Result: I went to Starbucks. I'm not the hugest fan of Starbucks. Their tap water is pretty good. I also like their white hot chocolates, but have stopped drinking them because they have too many calories :( Their cafe americanos are delish too. Usually though, I just avoid Starbucks. I'm not much of a coffee person. So I decided on a blueberry muffin. It was eh, but hey, it's a Starbucks, not a bakery. Something that I think is great about Starbucks in general is their speedy service, and this location was no exception. But what earned this particular Starbucks the fourth star was not their coffee, or food, or speediness, but the friendly cashier who helped me. She genuinely greeted me with a smile and a hello, something that I RARELY see, ESPECIALLY at a Starbucks. And my entire conversation with her was a really happy one. We didn't even talk about anything except for my order, she was just a really happy and kind person. I, having an awful day in addition to being jetlagged from NY, really REALLY appreciated this and felt I really needed to review this particular Starbucks, even though I don't know her name. So this Starbucks was luckily located near the Mexican restaurant that we ate at lunch and on the way back from UCSD. I know most people have been to a Starbucks by now but I may as well review this one for the convenience of this people. The barista would move back and forth between us and the coffee while we were ordering so it was a little hard to place our order. It is in the middle of a business center so it's convenient for anyone. The private lot is what you need to get past as this place does charge for parking. That's all I have for now. read more

This Starbucks is a real gem. I'm not the biggest fan of Starbucks, but this is definitely one of the better ones. What sets this Starbucks apart from other locations is their service. Every time I come here, I get great service. The employees are friendly, which is a rare thing when it comes to Starbucks. They actually treat you like a human, not just another drink to get out of the way. They deserve the tips they get. Try to avoid this location during work hours on weekdays. There aren't many parking spaces and you have to get your parking validated. After working hours though, this location is super convenient and never too crowded. As I former Starbucks employee for 2 years, I have never seen worse customer service in my life than I did from the workers at this location. I know for a fact that customer service is the number 1 priority and that surely was not the case during my visit. I came in an stood in line to order and the barista behind the counter who was just slouching over the counter was just chatting with some dude and didn't even mind saying, "excuse me for a second" or anything of the sort. I stood there for a full 5 minutes waiting before the other lame worker decided to ask my order. Not even a single apology from either. Next the barista even ha the nerve to argue with me about Starbucks policy? Don't bullshit me please. This Starbucks needs to seriously step up it's game, properly teach it's workers, and learn some damn manners. OH and the coffee sucked. Waste of 5 dollars. EDIT: I came back (what a mistake) and had another horrible experience. After ordering a stirred caramel macchiato, the worker failed to stir it. Not much of a problem to me, but the fact that she looked at me and said, "JUST STIR IT YOURSELF, YOU'LL BE FINE," and turned away simply pisses me off. Typical Starbucks location, but not a lot of seating and the hours are really short (close at 8 pm every night). I come here to study sometimes and it never gets unreasonably too busy, but you normally have to share a table. The workers are always friendly though! read more

This review is mainly for STUDYING purposes since we generally all know we love starbucks right? This location is pretty small and if you plan to study alone, it's a completely ideal place to. There are a generous amount of one to two person seating areas inside. For bigger groups you may have to opt to studying outside (where you'll still be able to connect to wi-fi) because there's only one decent sized table inside and it comfortable fits no more than 3 to 4 people. Wifi has no glitches. Snacks and drinks available and it's a great study environment! One thing is bring ear plugs to drown out the coffee steamer or ear phones to plug in your lap top or phone for music. :) read more

University City lacks independent cafes so if you are living here or in the area and looking to not go that far, then your options are either Peet's or Starbucks. This Starbucks in particular is like your run of the mill Starbucks. It is tucked into a shopping center, has your standard tables and chairs, with their products on the walls. I usually come to hear to study and the drinks are fairly good, though nothing to write home about. Ditto with the service, the employees are there to get your order and quickly get your drink. Due to that, there really is no personal interaction that you may find elsewhere. However, I am always surprised and delighted by the great music selection the store has. One more thing: The place closes pretty early for a Starbucks so if you are planning on coming here, don't plan on coming here late. read more

This is probably my favorite Starbucks near campus. I used to come here all the time when I lived in the apartment complex right next door. The baristas are always super friendly, and I love the outdoor seating area. There are a good number of tables for studying and plenty of outlets. However, this is a popular spot for grad students (since grad housing is across the street). There are also a lot of offices nearby. So if you come during the morning or lunch time, this place is usually packed. But service here is pretty efficient, so they do get your drinks out relatively quickly. They also validate your parking - which is awesome! I usually enjoy doing work here late at night. It's very calm and quiet. read more

5 stars, and I don't even like the Starbucks chain. This place rocks for service and seating. Every time I have to host an event that involves copious amounts of coffee, I always work with the manager of this store, Patty. She (and the rest of the team) are fantastic: friendly, prompt, great service, and they always help me out to the car with the aforementioned copious amounts of coffee. Also, I prefer this location over the other La Jolla locations for doing laptop work. There's plenty of seating outdoors so I've never had to struggle to find a table (unlike the UTC location or the one by Ralph's on Villa La Jolla) The one downside is that you have to validate your parking during work hours, and only get a limited time for free. But I love Patty and co. so much that I'm not even docking a star for that. Just be aware. read more

My favorite Starbucksssss. My one gripe is the parking fees. I understand it's to prevent from UCSD students from parking but it sucks to not be able to study here. Make sure to get your parking validated at the register! The first hour is free. The manager and staff are top notch. Unlike the typical sassy baristas they really do redo your drink if you are unsatisfied with it. I guess it's a "create inspired moments" thing they implement here. They really do try to make it right! So yeah it's a Starbucks, but kudos for great management. read more

By far my favorite location in the La Jolla area. I'm one of those people that can't really study at the library because it's just a little too quiet. Coffee shops have the perfect balance of noise quiet that make it almost the perfect setting to get some cramming in. The other locations in the area (the one next to Ralph's and the other at Costa Verde) are always so crowded so it is always hard to find seats. This location not only has plenty of seats but there is a perfect little table in the corner with table lamps and outlets galore which is PERFECT to study on. Another reason that I love this location so much is that it's in a plaza next door to an Einstein's and Regents Pizza. It's amazing how Starbucks are all different and all the same. I showed up here at 6AM, asking for a "doppio macchiato". The cashier paused for a long time and looked as if she was about to scratch her head, but then she punched what proved to be the correct key, and my order was sent into production! "Barrista" to cashier: "How many shots in that?" Cashier to barrista: "Two, I guess." Moments later, I had my beverage. Made by people who didn't have a clue. And you know what? It was *perfect*! As I'm sure I've said in many another review, go into a neighborhood independent cafe and ask for a drink like this and you're very likely to get something undrinkable (thin and over-extracted, as people say). So Starbucks is a good choice when you don't know the lay of the land. We're on some kind of financial row here, so the clients look as if they've been tallying up their mortgage-backed securities. But they were smiling, so maybe they weren't tallying all that carefully. read more

Starbucks could never 5 star without lowering their prices. I earned my gold card with nigh daily runs to supply the overworked, underpaid production floor. Before this loyalty program was advertised, I was enjoying free flavors, refills and reward drinks. ALWAYS GO FOR MORE THAN $10 FOR YOUR FREE DRINK! This particular Starbucks has always been good to me. Friendly baristas who learned my name quickly after I moved in to the condo complex north of the shopping center. What a fantastic Starbucks! Plenty of seats and the baristas are fantastic. They're nice, courteous and prepare the drinks to a T. The tables are square, which is good for more than one laptop and the Internet is relatively quick. I'm not comparing this Starbucks to other coffee shops because that would be pointless, I'm comparing it to other Starbucks'. Overall, I think this is definitely one of the best Starbucks I've ever been to. Starbucks is pretty much the most accessible coffee shop in the Greater San Diego Area. This location, however, is highly accessible for students being right across the street from the graduate housing division. Only about a 5-10 minute walk and convenient. Update: I've come back to this location several times and it has been very dirty. The floors are never swept, the bathrooms aren't up to par, and the countertops are always sticky. This starbucks is pretty nice for a franchise chain coffee store. The staff is very friendly, and the place itself is a really nice location. Of course, the drinks and food is the same at any Starbucks-so there's not much to say about that. My favorite Starbucks drink is the Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino. There is a lot of outdoor seating, and limited indoor, but it's usually filled up. Don't go to this one if you are looking to study or anything. People are really friendly here, so that's a plus because it's always overrun by a bunch of grumpy corporate people on weekday mornings. However... they need to pay a little more attention to the drinks they're making. This is probably the best Starbucks in UTC. -There are more places to sit than there are at the Costa Verde location and it's MUCH less crowded. -There are tons of nice shaded tables outside and you won't get attacked by pigeons. By now, everybody has more likely than not been to a Starbucks. This review is for everything else. There's not a lot of inside room, but plenty of tables outside, both in the sun and with umbrellas. The parking lot during the day is private, so if you park there, you will need to get your ticket validated. This particular Starbucks is pretty busy, as there is a Marriott hotel directly across the street, as well as office buildings around with thirsty workers. Inside, there are very few electrical outlets. There's one , longer table that has outlets on one side, but be sure to charge your devices if you plan on staying here for a while. read more

Their service recently has been so nice that i have to write a review here! I went in two days in a roll because it was mid-term week..and their service is soo nice! I don't know what their name was~but they were funny and outgoing~ and make you feel just like home! The only reason i gave them four stars is because of the parking..remember to get your ticket validated!!! Usually i just hop off my car and grab my drinks and go..and i never have to pay, but there was that one time there was a line at the Starbucks and i waited longer than usual so i get charged $1 for parking.
