It's an extremely rare day that you'll find me drinking coffee in the evening but I was in desperate need yesterday evening & stumbled upon Philz (with which I was previously unfamiliar). The counter gentleman helped me choose the right blend for me (Philtered Soul) & I ordered a chicken & rice burrito as well. He was very kind, patient, & informative. Unfortunately I was very exhausted & don't recall his name. The lovely young lady who gave me my coffee & had me taste it to make sure it was to my liking was also so on point with her customer service, was very kind & gracious, & I appreciated that she thanked me for coming there (unfortunately don't remember her name either, but I believe she was about 5'3" with blonde hair but it was all pulled back so didn't see much of it). Outstanding customer service from genuinely kind, caring, & invested individuals makes such a HUGE impact! The burrito & coffee were both absolutely delicious! They are both so sweet and creamy, and you know I will only drink coffee that is sweet and creamy :) I like the rose a little bit more, but it's nice to switch it up once in a while. I love Philz coffee. We don't have one where we live so whenever we're in SD, we make a point of going. It was understandably very busy this morning as I waited for my coffees (for me and family). There were several on the counter between me and my coffees. I needed a cup holder tray to get them back to my hotel. Unfortunately, the cup holder tray was flimsier than I'm used to and I had to lift it over the other cups on the counter. One of my cups fell out. It spilled all over the barista's work area. I felt awful and apologized immediately. The barista was understandably and visibly annoyed. I apologized again, but she would not acknowledge my apology. She was obviously pissed off and I felt like a child, in trouble for the spill. Her coworker tried to help clean it, but she did not accept help and was busy cleaning it so the coworker proceeded to remake my drink. I get that they are super busy and spilling my drink made things harder and inconvenient for them. I also think as a human, and as someone who works in customer service, you should acknowledge someone who apologizes for something they didn't mean to do. Philz coffee is usually a treat for me, but my experience today didn't feel like a treat. I just felt bad. Probably won't go out of my way to go back. I hope management will read this and rethink training their employees. read more

Revisited recently. Register is located at the far back. Almost every table was taken by people with laptops. Huge parking lot but most spaces taken. Better to park near Nordstrom rack. Pick a specialty drink or a type of roast, size, sweetness and milk preference. Very customizable. Tried: Tiramisu $6.80 - also too sweet even though we ordered it medium sweetness. Flavor was okay. s'mores $5.95 - this was horribly sweet. I asked for it medium sweet and it tasted like it was extra extra extra sweet. I even added a double shot espresso at home to it and it was still too sweet. I will just stick to their regular coffee instead of specialty if I come back. read more

Philz is one of my favorite coffee spots because of its wide variety of handcrafted drinks and the ability to customize the sweetness, cream, and even the ice level. My go-to is the Iced Mint Mojito--the fresh mint makes it incredibly refreshing, especially on a warm day. This visit, I decided to try something new: the Tiramisu. It comes as a hot or cold drink. While it didn't really remind me of tiramisu cake, it tasted more like their classic Philtered Soul with rich nutty and chocolate notes. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit because it wasn't overly sweet or loaded with syrup. I knew I had a long drive on the way back to LA, so I decided to come here. My friends love Philz Coffee but I'm not a regular, especially with coffee, but I do love chocolate!!! My order was their popular Iced Mocha Tesora (Tesora blend + cocoa). It tasted perfect to me and got me awake within 15 minutes. I thought this spot was really nice when I walked in!!! There was plenty of seats (most taken by people studying or hanging out) but there's a large bench to sit at while waiting for orders. Bathrooms in the back also have a small bench where you can sit infront of. The parking lot is pretty full with lots of businesses in the area, but you can't beat free parking. Lots of patio seating too in the plaza area with a door to the back. read more

The employees were welcoming and offered to make any adjustments if I needed (: I am SO HAPPY the tiramisu is staying for a lil while longer - one of the best seasonal drinks I've tried! During a recent trip to San Diego, my best friend INSISTED that we stop by Philz Coffee before lunch. I had heard of them before but never tried. We came midday on a Friday and this place was POPPIN. Definitely seems to be a study and hangout spot for college age students. All of the tables were taken with laptops open and there was a steady line of people waiting to order, but it moved quickly. The girl at the register was friendly and helped me decide on a beverage when I was stuck between a couple choices. I went with the Honey Haze which was their cold brew with honey and oat milk. After ordering we got our drinks pretty quickly. They had forgotten to give me a lid at first so when I grabbed it a good amount spilled on my pants and stained them a little, so note to self, do not grab before they give you a lid!! My drink was pretty tasty and the honey flavor was subtle but noticeable and the perfect amount of sweetness. Overall pretty good! Stopped by Philz Coffee this morning to do some reading and studying, before my dr appointment, and it reminded me why I've always loved this place. I remember when this location first opened and how pumped I was about it. I don't live in the area anymore, so it's a bit of a bummer that it's so far from me now especially since this was one of the first Philz locations to open in San Diego. I really wish they had one down south. Anytime I'm up north though, I make it a point to stop by. The customer service is always top-tier and the baristas genuinely know their coffee. Today I kept it simple with an all-black light roast (even though the Mint Mojito is usually my go-to), and it was perfect. The vibe here is great too clean, calm, and welcoming for getting work done. I especially love the aesthetic, with local La Jolla artwork painted on the walls by local artists. Such a cool touch. Service is consistently solid, coffee is always on point, and it's a place I'll keep coming back to whenever I'm in the area. Nice, consistent, and efficient. I had an all around great experience at Philz! It had your standard coffee shop ambience with hard working people, dim lighting, and the smell of fresh coffee and pastries. I ordered a hot chocolate for my beverage and a bagel for my food selection. The hot chocolate was high quality and tasted amazing. My only suggestion is a sprinkle of marshmallows to take it to the next level. The bagel was phenomenal and truly surprised me. Fluffy, toasted to perfection, and good cream cheese as well. Stopped by this location on a rainy Thursday afternoon and got their Mocha Tesora. Was only planning to drink half but it was so good that I ended up drinking the whole thing! The right blend of sweetness and coffee. It was pretty packed, which makes sense being close to campus but I was able to find a seat eventually after getting my coffee. I frequent Philz pretty often cause it's on the way to work and their coffees are delicious. I like to use their mobile app to order drinks to go so it's ready right before heading into work. I've tried pretty much all the different drinks and blends of coffees. I like how customizable the drinks are to your liking because I prefer my drinks to not be too sweet or milky. The cafe can get pretty busy during lunch hours and so I would really recommend using the app to save yourself time. The cafe itself is spacious and comfortable. Ever since I tried the Philz Coffee signature Mint Mojito drink, it has always been my go-to order whenever I visit a Philz. I love that we can select the sweetness and creaminess level as it allows me to go for light sweetness and light cream. It does take some time, around 10+ minutes or more, to get your order, so only come to Philz if you're not in a hurry. Otherwise the coffee is great and service is nice! When I first tasted my drink, i found it wasn't minty enough, and so asked if they could make it more minty - they said they don't use mint syrup but use fresh mint (which is a big plus, cus the less processed is better)! I would advise that the bathrooms also be regularly cleaned, if possible, because when I went to use it, the previous user did not flush the toilet, which was a bit unsightly, so I also informed one of the staff. read more

Been here multiple times to study/get some work done and it is a solid option near UCSD's campus. Parking is easy as there is a huge lot for the entire complex and I hardly ever have issues finding a spot. My go-to drink is the basic mint mojito and I've always been satisfied with it from this location! Service is friendly, even when it's super busy. There is a good amount of seating inside but even then the tables can fill up pretty early and stay filled throughout the day so it's a bit of a gamble when it comes to table space (especially around midterms/finals season).
