Best Starbucks anywhere! I'm in this store twice a day and both morning and evening shifts are great. Chloe always has my drink started when I enter the store and always pleasant. Ugh. I'm here on vacation and placed my regular order through the mobile app. Apparently, I didn't wait long enough before pulling into the drive through - and this really set Chloe off. First, she lectured my husband and I, then claimed to be 'matching my husband's energy' with her snippiness, then was just rude as she handed me and incorrect drink that she had made. So I went to the drive thru of this Starbucks and my drink was made wrong, and the ugly bucktoothed gank was very rude to me. She tried to hand me the card reader (which isn't very normal in the first place) and when i didn't immediately grab it she kept repeating "you'll take it from me" over and over. FOUR times I've ordered ahead and here were the results each time: 1. Ordered ahead. Got to the store and it was closed. Sad. Called corporate. Got a refund. Waste of time (x2). 2. Ordered ahead. Got to the store and the front doors were closed. A barista saw me and opened the doors for me. Yay. The barista told me I have to "sit over there and just wait because they're slammed". (I had placed my order nearly 20 min before). Sad. Waste of time. 3. Ordered ahead. Got to the store and the front doors were closed. I went thru the drive thru. The barista handed me my drink which did not have the top secured and it exploded all over my car when she got distracted by a puppy in another persons car and clipped the top of my door with said drink. No apology and I was given a small wad of napkins while she swooned over the puppy. I had to ask for more napkins (when I actually needed a wetvac, but I wasn't expecting that to come thru the window) and she sighed and grabbed more... but not before grabbing a coworker to she him the puppy. I also had to ask for a new drink since drinking the current one out of my floorboard didn't seem feasible or appealing. And, Lastly.... 4. Ordered ahead. Got to the store and the front doors were closed. Knocked and the 2 baristas made swirly hand motions for me go through the drive thru line that was at least 8 cars deep. I knocked 2x more to get their attention and they ignored me. I was in jeopardy of being late for work, so I left. Called corporate and gave me a refund, but didn't seem to interested that the HHI Matthews store is so terrible. Yes. Normally I love this Starbucks and how nice the staff is. My experience today has unfortunately changed my liking of it. I went to take my order and my daughter was ordering from the passenger seat and the barista taking our order rudely interrupted her and said that she could not order because she wasn't in the drivers seat and it was hard to hear her, even though my daughter was talking at a pretty loud tone. I then proceeded to order for my daughter. We got up to the window to get my daughters drink and it was the same barista that took our order. We paid for the drink and before we drove away my daughter had noticed that it was the wrong drink. I politely asked the barista if it was the correct drink that we ordered and she said in an extremely rude tone that it was the correct drink even though it wasn't. Me and my daughter had this same experience happen before and the staff was so nice and happily corrected the mistake. Overall the barista that took our order was very rude and should have remade the drink as the correct one we ordered. Wish I could've gotten the correct drink or at least a refund of my money. Not happy at all with the service and most likely won't be returning. Pretty sure the barista's name was Layla, she had purple hair as well. read more

Normally this is a fantastic Starbucks. Today though my daughters ordered with their money and the mobile order ticket machine was apparently not printing. They waited inside for 10 minutes before realizing they were being passed by. They mentioned to the barista and the reply was "oh the tickets aren't printing. What did you have?" They then made their drinks but they didn't have time to wait for her sandwich and told them that. No offer of compensation, no proactive communication to the many people standing there obviously waiting. They are now late to work without the breakfast they were excited for. I'm a huge fan of Starbucks and typically love this one, but guys we are in season for Hilton Head. Get ready and don't let the load overwhelm you to a place of not caring for locals. Not even sure how she gets a refund because the app doesn't have a report it feature. People use the app because they don't have time to manage in person. read more

Caffeine addicts: prepare to be disappointed. Despite all COVID-19 precautions being lifted, this store still has no normal hours during the summer of 2022. I try to keep in mind that this area is also severely understaffed--but that also comes with pay raises offered at most chain type jobs. It's hard to be a fair critic (and blame it on underemployment) though when the Starbucks out in the least visited area of Bluffton (which is out near the may river circle) is open for the normal hours posted at most Starbucks (6am-9pm). I'm a local of the area and I can say that it's extremely weird that a drive thru Starbucks doesn't stay open past 5pm in the busiest season on Hilton Head Island. Sure, there are plenty of other Starbucks options on the island, but it's still crazy to me that I would have to drive an extra 10-25 min to just get a caramel macchiato after 4-5pm (I'm not sure their exact closing hours since they don't post their hours on the doors or online). I know this sounds like a first world problem--and it is. But this store either needs to shut down and cut out customer disappointment altogether or change management ASAP. read more

The lady with the wig and headband didn't even bother to say hello or even anything besides "you got an app" and then walked away and scoffed at my order when i ordered 3 drinks off the menu, not a super long, detailed, complicated order. Visiting HHI where riding bikes is a way of the island. Rode here specifically. Unable to go in to order. Unable to place a mobile order. All because they are "short staffed". Only way to order is by drive thru and they will not of course allow bikes thru the drive thru. Spoke with an employee and they were unwilling to make it right. On oct 11th my friends and i went to the starbucks and the lady took 10 min to tell us that they only had one left of what we wanted and then asked us if we want a cookie or a cake pop which doesn't even add up because the prices are not equivalent and then instead of giving us three cookies because they were three of us she gives us two cookies and a croissant that's not fair all 3 of us wanted the croissant and now only one of us gets it. They never asked if we wanted the receipt, straws, or napkins and when we received the receipt we were still charged for the croissants. A croissant is $2.75 and a cookie is $1.95. read more

I come to this Starbucks twice a week before work where I am normally running late. Despite their long lines, their service is always always quick and efficient. In addition the people at the drive through, both the ones that talk to you on the headset and the one at the window always go out of their way to be nice and connect with me on my order.
