Caffè Nero - Very nice Italian style decor!

The layout of the place is very unique, with the wooden staircase being the centrepiece of the building. The building itself is wood clad but has glass windows on either side. With the space they had, they managed to fit in lots of seating without making it feel overcrowded. I can always find a seat in here, unlike in Starbucks where I will often have to use my eagle eye to spot a table. Today I had a hot chocolate and it was very nice. Nero definitely have the best hot chocolate out of the big 3 chains! Hot chocolate from Starbucks is just too watered down and the Costa hot chocolate is good but it depends on what café you buy it from. In Caffe Nero however, you are always guaranteed a nice, rich hot chocolate. The ground floor has all the soft seats like the sofas that you will just sink into and the comfy armchairs. The service counter is also down here so it will be convenient if you are on this floor because you might spill your drink while walking upstairs. I also like the frappes and brownies from Nero. They truly are delicious! The décor here is very nice and reminded me of an indie coffee shop in Italy when you are really in a chain café in a retail park. Even the toilets had Italian decorations in them! Speaking of the toilets, they are very clean but the stupid tap design gets water all over the floor. Downstairs, there is only 1 which is the disabled one but upstairs there are 3. I noticed a bookshelf upstairs too which looked like it had some nice books on it. The staff here are also great at what they do and none of them have ever been rude or snarky towards me.

Would come back again.

It was a good pre-stop to Arthur's Seat hike on the difficult trail. Fabulous tea, since there wasn't a table when I arrived around noon, I took an Edinburgh Frost to go. As I arrived, I saw the lovely "People love us on Yelp" sticker- always a good sign! And there is a lot to love! There is space for about 15 people inside, so it's not very large, and we were lucky to get a cute table for two near the door. We were immediately welcomed by a smiling server, who was very nice indeed. The cakes were on display in a cabinet and in the window area, and there was a nice selection. I ended up having a piece of Victoria Sponge, and Mary a chocolate cake. We also had a pot of tea for two. The tea came in a super cute tea cosy and with two fine china cups. The cake followed soon after, and they were both tasty. Clearly fresh, moist, and sweet. We both enjoyed them immensely. The place also has a nice menu of breakfast food, soup, scones etc. so there is a lot of choice. I'll be back.

So it was high time that this was addressed. I tucked into a serious open sandwich of goats cheese, red pepper and caramelised red onion - and boy, it was good. Underestimating my order, I had opted for the soup and a sandwich option, but it really wasn't necessary (although the carrot and coriander soup was tasty, and had all the hallmarkings of homecooked goodness), I left, stuffed and round as a ball. No room for checking out the homebaking either, probably a good thing - but it leaves me a reason for return, instead.

On a lovely sunny morning with one of the kiddies at nursery we decided to grab brunch outside here. We were greeted by the owner who was lovely to chat to. I ordered the French toast with bacon and my partner the full Scottish. A definite Yum in both our opinions. The coffee was just delicious which I think says a lot about a place. if they take care in the bean they serve as a lot of people order it, it should be your signature. All in all great service delicious food lovely coffee. We'll be back to sample more as they also do a dinner service on a Friday and Saturday night. The menu changes every week which is excellent. I had a look at the previous weekends offerings and there was a lovely variety. 2 courses for £19.50 or 3 courses for £24. Not bad for a freshly cooked locally sourced meal. Give it a whirl.

The food was absolutely delicious! My porridge was so hearty and yummy, I wanted to lick the bowl. My spouse's eggs benedict dish was also fantastic, and you can tell they use very fresh, high quality ingredients. The way they serve the meals in little stainless steel lunch boxes is adorable. My chai tea latte with oat milk was fantastically spicy and not too sweet. The server was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and always nearby, so it was easy to ask for our check when we were ready. And the inside of the restaurant had a warm, cozy feel. I would gladly eat every breakfast here the next time we're in Edinburgh!

When it came to ordering, I got an Iced Latte and a Buttery Bap. The menu is a bit difficult to decipher, as it was confusing how much or how little can be added to it and at what cost. The menu said I could only pick one filling, but when I asked I was informed that I could pick an unlimited amount. I'm glad I trusted my instinct and went with just two: Veggie Haggis and Tattie Scones. Both of these were truly delicious. However, there was an extra charge for the second filling. Prices for additions are listed at the bottom of the menu as if they were sides you could order separately. On the receipt, I also saw that I was charged 0.50 extra for ice. I don't understand why places charge extra to make an iced drink when overall you're actually getting less of the drink. Overall, everything tasted good and I'm glad I was able to try numerous Scottish classics.
