It might APPEAR that I'm just *dialing in* another review on such a "hard place (NOT)" to kick another one ottta da can. But actually, THIS is the FIRST Starbucks I've ever visited OUTSIDE of the U.S. So that alone makes it a special occasion! THE SETUP After leaving the Calgary Airport (YYC) U.S. Customs area (where they verified my U.S. Passport), I went on this lonnnnnnnng trek through the International area of the terminal to find my United Airlines gate, San Francisco (SFO) bound (I think E90?). They had samples, I did want to try until a witness a snotty nosed boy take the tongs and grab the piece of bread which was okay. Then stuck the tongs in his mouth with the bread!! I wanted to barf his mom just took the tongs from his mouth and placed it back in the sample case!!! WOW is all I have to say. -parking is limited so don't expect to park close. *Caution on the sanitation of the sample utensils!

Almost every time I come in, there seems to be a completely new employee who is clearly still learning and doesn't seem to have the training or support they need. What's even more frustrating is that they are often left working on their own without a supervisor or experienced employee around to guide them. I genuinely feel bad for the employees because it seems like they're being put in a position where they're expected to figure things out themselves. Unfortunately, this has also had a major impact on the quality of the drinks. I have lost count of how many times I've paid Starbucks prices for a drink, brought it home, taken one sip, and ended up throwing it in the garbage because it was genuinely undrinkable. I completely understand that mistakes happen, especially with new employees, but when it happens repeatedly, it becomes incredibly frustrating. I'm not expecting perfection, and I have nothing against the individual employees. If anything, I think they deserve better training and support. The constant turnover, lack of supervision, and inconsistency in drink quality really need to be addressed. I've been a Starbucks customer for a long time, but I'm at the point where I hesitate to go to this location because I simply don't know if I'm going to leave with a drink I can actually enjoy. I really hope management takes this feedback seriously, because this location has gone downhill significantly and it's disappointing to see.

Its run down - burnt out light bulbs, dark and dingy, crappy chairs in ill repair and the guy working there was rude guy. The shop was closing at 6pm. He brought out his mop and bucket at 5:15 and started mopping the floor with a strong, toxic smelling cleaning solution right in front of us. It was all you could smell! Left the bucket out right in front of us. Then shouted at us at 5:45pm in a rude manner to tell us he was closing in 15 minute. Won't be back - there are way more pleasant shops near by to meet your friends for coffee!

But all kidding aside, I am extremely happy that P&S has branched out of Marda Loop and the Calgary Farmer's Market -- even IF this particular location is at the mall. It does get a little busy, especially during the weekends, but I've found their cozy seating space particularly conducive to study sessions or meeting people on weekdays between 12-4. I mean if you have to be at the mall anyway... right? The coffee is great. The lattes in particular are a treat; I have the anti-sweet tooth so I really appreciate how authentically delicious it is, unsweetened and all.

There's a few locations around Calgary, I believe; I visited both the location by the river and the location at Chinook Mall - the latter had donuts and they all looked amazing, but I opted for the ube and coconut which ended up being a good choice! Highly recommend if you're in Calgary.
