FROM BAD TO WORSE We have written about STARBUCK RESERVE at Utrechestraat on Rembrandtplein (Square) Today, we had to use the toilets. Confusingly, two of the three doors are locked. We asked one of the barristas about the situation. With a straight face, they replied: "people (customers) don't keep the toilets clean so we lock two doors, force people into one toilet and make them keep that space clean themselves". Something is horribly wrong with this picture(!) + sink: in the last 5 months, handicapped toilet sink is ALWAYS BLOCKed + floor: covered with miscellaneous scraps of toilet paper + floor condition: almost always there are large puddles of (dirty) water around the sink And, to add insult to injury the location still lacks the "bells & frills" of other locations + no alcholic drinks bar + no specialty coffees (beyond standard Starbucks fare) + no operational roasters + no RESERVE special blends of coffee for sale Around the world, STARBUCKS RESERVE is hailed as the "non plus ultra" / the "crème de la crème" of the brand It is nothing less than tragic how much of a let down RESERVE AMSTERDAM BANK is. This Starbucks is MASSIVE. It used to be an old bank so it has a rich old money vibe to it. There's beautiful wood work and decor. There are lots of cozy nooks to sit and read or work at. They also have massive wooden tables that can be shared. I love stumbling across this Starbucks. They also share reserve cups with Milan so you can pick up a cool cup here. The staff was friendly. The bathrooms were a little gross and no toilet paper however this is a huge tourist area with free bathrooms so it kind of checks out on that front. I loved the overall vibe and it was a unique Starbucks! read more

Starbucks on Rembrandtplein is a very unique Starbucks store, styled as Starbucks The Bank, it is a Starbucks Reserve store, but not a Roastery, so you can expect to find the regular Starbucks offerings here. In The Netherlands, I noticed Starbucks prices varied a lot, between €5.75 and €6.35 for my Venti Iced Toffee Nut Latte, international Starbucks cards are not accepted and I am unaware of a scheme for The Netherlands. The menu does appear to be the same as most other EMEA markets. This particular location seemed to charge the lower end of that price range. The interior of this particular Starbucks is unique, compared to any other Starbucks I have visited, it is a beautiful and large location in a former bank, and it has three levels with a small number of steps (no more than 6) separating each level, there is a small Starbucks Reserve area which is visually pleasing, although not on the level of their Milan Roastery, it is still fairly attractive with a nice offering. The staff here were very friendly, with the barista apologising for my delay in the queue, which was caused by a customer paying with dozens of small coins, which took forever! It wasn't the barista's fault but I appreciated how he acknowledged I was standing around waiting for a while. I did get my beverage pretty quickly after that. Plenty of tables including a large shared table, ideal for working. It did mainly consist of hard wooden chairs though, and there wasn't a great deal of comfortable seating, which was frustrating for the size of the place. I was pleased with the quality of my Venti Iced Toffee Nut Latte, which looked and tasted good. Do be advised that they do close pretty early here, they close at 17:30 Monday to Friday, and 18:00 on weekends, which just feels way too early for a large Starbucks in a big city, which is the earliest I found out of any Starbucks in Amsterdam. There is also a huge reliance on natural daylight and some areas inside are not very well-lit, compared to others. 4* - A large, beautiful and unique Starbucks in a great city, a couple of flaws, but all in all one of my favourite Starbucks stores in the Netherlands. read more

What a awesome Starbucks, truly one of a kind. From what I understand this location used to be a bank back in the day, that was remodeled to accommodate those crazed Starbucks fans (Count me in that group). Of course I had no clue about this when walking by it, my mind was stuck on how cold it was and the thought of a tasty warm treat. Once you walk in you are immediately introduced a modern, yet classy and comfortable setting. As you descend down the stairs, you realize this location is quite large and quaint, never felt cramped at all. As usual the staff was on point and glad to share their local treats and also some tips about the city as well. I must of spent at least an hour or more here enjoying the relaxing vibe, beautiful aesthetics, and of course the delicious coffee. So while one may question the fact why a city built on coffee shops, you visit a mass chain. The answer is simple, consistency, quality, and sometime the hip environment! This is the most gorgeous cafe I've seen anywhere in the world. According to the signage, it's one of Starbuck's "concept stores", and it looks like the interior designers went crazy in here. It's built inside an old bank building. There are local influences in the design, such as the ubiquitous windmill "X", as well as gorgeously done lighting shining a shelf of vintage/antique home items like you were in someone's old-fashioned 19th century study. The architecture in interesting with multi-level terraces, and the souvenir mugs have a lovely bicycle design on them. Even the ceilings are done really beautifully. The overall ambiance is lovely. Bathrooms: Typical Starbucks cleanliness. Cute signage, too. read more

I am not a coffee snob. Now that we have that out of our way, how do I make my review interesting enough for coffee lovers and haters alike? Well, let me tell you, there is no other better place in the Rembrandtplein area to sit down, have great conversation, befriend each other on Facebook using the free Wifi, and get cosy, all while sipping on hot beverages made on some of the most expensive equipment in the world! To top it all, the staff is so polite and homely so as to bother you into wondering where in the world you are. Oh, and Starbucks makes some of the most delicious cakes ever. Normally, I wouldn't give much praise to a ultra large chain like Starbucks, but this is one of the most tasteful interiors in the city. I have never seen a cafe so well designed. You actually want to spend a few hours while you're here. So far, I have only been trying the Clover coffees, and they're amazing. Just watching the process is so interesting. Just today, I also pointed out to a friend how much I would love to steal out one of the mugs from this location. All in all, this new establishment reeks of class. I am digging it. As Starbucks would have you believe, them and you are truly bigger than coffee. We're talking great times at one of the best locations in the wonderful city we call Amsterdam. read more

This quite large Starbucks has a little side area where there is a 'reserve bar'. Forget your frothy whip cream laden drinks, here its about single origin coffees made by handpress, clover, or old school espresso. They will talk you through the coffees and you can sit back and slowly enjoy a cup while on the wifi. Nice. read more

I've been here a couple times and it's different than your normal Startbucks (especially the European Starbucks) A lot of effort was put into this place making it look and feel cool. They sourced a lot of the building materials from the local area and made an old bank vault a pretty cozy place to have coffee. For one thing the place is huge, even though it is in a very crowded area of Amsterdam, there should always be somewhere to sit. The seating areas are sectioned off so it's not like your sitting in a big room with a lot of people. They serve the normal Starbucks items and then some. This is a concept store for Europe so they try out new things here that are not available in other Starbucks stores. That being said, they still do not carry all of the things that the stores in America have. I would also recommend getting a coffee from their "clover" machine. One of only 2 in Europe. Even if you don't like filter coffee, it is worth it just to see the machine work. If you are in the area, even if you are too cool for Starbucks, stop in, this one is different. read more

This is not a five star review because of a five star coffee, but because of a five start location. Starbucks @The Bank is by far my favorite Starbucks location in the world. I have been to big ones in New York, Paris, and even a ski resort in California (where you can drink a coffee right off the slopes). I like this location because they have outsourced all of the design and construction inside to local artisans. Most of these artisans have used second hand materials and thus created a unique artistic location. The multi tiered seating areas also give an interesting point of view to drink your coffee. Another benefit to this location is the Clover brewing and slow brew area. At a smaller area off to the left downstairs there is the first (now one @Schiphol) Clover brew device in the Netherlands. The idea is that the coffee beans are carefully measured, temperature of the water precise and the timing exact. The results, in theory, should be the most scientifically flavored coffee you can make. Let's be honest here though, it's a little bit of an over kill. Still the process makes a good coffee, although a little too hot for my taste. Another benefit is you have the choice to choose which beans you would like for your coffee. In this same area there are other slow brew methods such as press and open filter drip. If you are in Amsterdam and want to visit a unique coffee location you must go here. read more

The only place in Amsterdam to get Starbucks reserve coffee. They even have a separate "bar" for it. Especially for soylatte some of the reserve coffee's are way better than the regular roast. Decor of the place is also nice, way above your average Starbucks. read more

Love the interior in here. Has a nice Scandinavian look to it. It's not the traditional Starbucks cafe. Has more of a nice Dutch vibe to it. Aesthetic was great but, it felt like something was missing, I could not put my finger on it. My objective was to buy a bag of ground coffee, but unfortunately options seam limited, so i left empty handed. Perfect location and great place to meet up with friends. Fabulous starbucks! Biggest one i have ever seen! It's called an "experimental" location. They apparently try new things - coffee, snacks, etc. Staff was very friendly, the coffee was very good - i got a different type of ethiopian espresso. I am a coffee lover from Australia, renown for some of the best baristas in the world and its well developed coffee latte art and pride in coffee culture... - and I am loving Starbucks! Yes, that is possible! :-) I don't know how some coffee snobs can possibly overlook the fact that every Starbucks is a small coffee shop of its own! Once your Barista at any given location knows how you like to drink your coffee (Yes, you don't necessarily need to order one of the sugary coffee versions of the menu!!!), I am sure any person would be happy about their coffee! It's how and what you order!!! :-) The Bank's Starbucks is by far one of the best Starbucks stores I have been to throughout my travels! The design of the store is cozy, but very hip and modern at the same time. This is a really interesting Starbucks from the decor standpoint that is unlike any other Starbucks I've been to. This Starbucks is basically a multi-level situation with small clusters of seating throughout. When I stopped at this location it was packed, which made it difficult to find any seating. Luckily I was able to grab 2 seats but it seems like people sit at this location for a long time. One thing to note, the Netherlands does not take American Starbucks cards as a from of payment like other European countries do. So no chance of earning stars on your card here. Though some of the drinks make up for this. Since it was summer I had a Mango Passion Fruit Frappuccino that is not available in the United States. This is actually a great summertime drink that is refreshing. Overall a nice Starbucks to stop at if you are thirsty and wanting a brief break from sightseeing. It might seem overrated to review a Starbucks, but this is not your typical Starbucks. I walked thinking and was immediately confused... felt like I was in some fancy face of sorts. It has this sort of multi-tiered floor and seating arrangement. You have to walk down to the counter at the bottom floor, allowing you to catch a glimpse of the entire seating area. There's the normal line where the baked goods are with the menu, but there's also some sort of expresso bar next to it. The interior is well designed and decorated, with plenty of seating and reliable wifi. They were also bring around some small cups of special espresso with milk for patrons to try (all I remember the guy saying was "sun-dried" or Ethiopian or something, but what the hey, it was free espresso). This is definitely the type of place that a traveller like myself has to peel away from when visiting - otherwise, I would never leave to see the sights! read more

Not your average Starbucks! I love the underground feel in this Starbucks, and the fab location doesn't hurt either. It's pretty big inside with various layers and different seating options, so there's something for everyone. Thanks to the above-mentioned fab location, it can get pretty busy, but if it's a nice day there's always the opportunity to take your coffee outside and enjoy the plein! read more

Free wifi! THANK YOU!!!!!! But downfall: you can't pay with your app/giftcards so I didn't get credit for any of my purchases! Lame!! This starbucks has more than enough seating, quick service, and friendly staff - the typical starbucks accommodations. The best part was being able to connect to the wifi for some directions, some iMessages, and to reconnect to the US for a few minutes. I opted for a Hot Chocolate and the barista made it with more than enough extra whipped cream! woo! He even refilled my whipped cream halfway through my drink! Mega win!! read more

This Starbucks store, as mentioned several times, is a concept store (there was only 4 in the whole world, as far as I know). The design of the store is astonishing: classy furniture and repurposed pieces from different parts of Netherlands. It's very spacious, easy to work, chill or just meet friends. The location (so close to Rembrandtplein and inside The Bank, a very classical building) is another plus. But it's not only about the design: they're testing different coffee brewing methods, so you can try some different/unique coffee flavours by region in their (what seems to be a) slow coffee corner. Now they're incorporating the Starbucks Reserve brand and products, so if you're interested on having some of these flavours at home, they can offer it to you. In case you use french press or espresso (what also applies to a Moka Pot) they get you covered, too. If you're not adventurous or a coffee nerd you can still have the regular Starbucks drinks, like the white coffee mocha, my all time favourite. read more

I love Starbucks in the USA, but to be honest when traveling I never go here. This Starbucks was different though...it drew me in like a summer breeze. More importantly it was housing some of my favorites, their espresso brownie and their fresh glazed donuts. This starbucks has tons of seating, multiple floors, free wifi and bathrooms as well. You can literally sit here forever with friends chatting or alone reading/writing or people watching and it just doesn't get boring. Right outside you are on Rembrandtplein square which has tons of people just wandering around, admiring the statues and bars/shops/cafes/restaurants to go afterwards on the very same block. I will give Starbucks this one-great location and great amenities. read more

I'm very partial to this Starbucks location, and not only because it's the closest one to where I live in Amsterdam Oost. The architecture, interior, and huge amount of space, tables and outlets is a plus, but the best part: the people who work here, who put up with me. They are always kind and will remember you if you're a regular; I've never, ever had or witnessed bad or even mediocre service. The other day I dumped my soya latte all over the floor, and they wouldn't so much as let me help clean it up; they even made me a new drink for free (though I did secretly slip a few euros into the tip jar...). It's a friendly atmosphere where I can always concentrate and get sh*t done while sitting comfortably. Thank you to all the amazing staff! I wish I could have worked here, but the late hours and irregular schedule would have been difficult for a narcoleptic unfortunately. read more
