We did not end up using Star Services at all. The day they were scheduled, they never showed up and never called to say what happened. I texted, and they just said their day was really busy. They offered to come the next day, and I said to text when they were on the way, which they did. Initially they had quoted $75 flat fee, but it turns out that is only diagnostic, and they only accept Cash App or cash. When I said I was not comfortable with Cash App, they called and were not exactly polite, so when I said "no thank you, we will have to use someone else, since I only use Zelle or Venmo and not Cash App for online payment," they hung up on me. I can't speak to their repair abilities, only that it felt rude and sketchy from the start to not call or notify me of their policy ahead of time. Provided prompt and courteous service. He is an expert in several brands of appliances since he has worked with a few different companies. Really rare these days to find someone who can diagnose an appliance. Personal service and the five star rating comes from his abilities and skill. I do have to say that the payment process was not easy and had to download an app to pay since he doesn't accept payment methods. I believe he will be changing this soon though. read more

Incredibly impressive. Found Star Services and Steve on Yelp. Was a bit worried he didn't have tons of reviews, but the few that were listed were all quite positive. I gave him a call. He responded within 5 minutes. (Note: two other repair places took over a day to get back to me.) Steve came out within 3 hours, assessed the situation and ordered the parts. Found Steve on Yelp. I read all the reviews and made a time to meet and he was prompt. Our old school Sears 40 year old dryer wasn't drying. He quickly diagnosed the problem and went out and got the parts for heater coils as they were old and needed replacement. He even cleaned out the lint debris, which is a fire hazard with gas dryers. And even gave me advice how to properly use the dryer and the newer Kenmore washing machine. He trained with Sears and Montgomery Wards and says they don't t make old school like sears anymore because they never need replacement. I highly recommend for washers dryers refrigerators dish washers stoves you name it. All appliances even TV. He was working for a service business who subcontracted him but they made all the money. The reason is simple: SSU walks you through on the fly the diagnosis while explaining some of the common gotchas that could have gone wrong. I can't tell you how boring/awkward it is to just stand there looking over someone's shoulder not knowing what is going on. Work done: - Jenn-Air refrigerator was leaking at the bottom due to a drip valve being backed up. Problem was fixed and havent had an issue so far. - Samsung HE washer had water in the drip pan... SSU (Certified Samsung Care Professional) was able to diagnose that nothing was leaking and that the possibility could be due to using too much liquid detergent. (sucks I had to pay for the ID10T error... but a diagnosis cost is a diagnosis cost...) read more

Steven was great. Incredibly responsive - I had an appointment within 24 hours of contacting him. He tried to fix what he could and for the appliances that were older, I really appreciated his honesty about just upgrading the appliances rather than spending on expensive replacement parts. EDIT - my landlord ended up wanting to do the replacement. This was an incredibly tough repair with an old machine and Steven had to return several times to troubleshoot because of compatibility issues with the new parts. I contacted this company about a Microwave repair. They were quite timely in their response. I scheduled an appointment. I tried using the Microwave and it worked perfectly. I notified Star Services Unlimited that the unit was now working again and that I would notify them if I needed their services in the future. Their response "No thanks". Pros: Replies within minutes, Fixed the dishwasher. Kind of. It's still leaking days after Steve fixed it. Water is seeping from underneath the dishwasher through the ceiling downstairs. The dishwasher wasn't pulled out for the repair, he fixed it from the side. I have to call somebody else now. Cons: Charged $118 for a Bosch inlet valve. I asked for a part number to check if I can find it cheaper, but he refused to give it. First time in my life when a repair person refused to let me look it up. I used the old valve and still found it for $13. I then was lectured that it was fake and the genuine Bosch costs $118. It takes a few seconds to check parts' prices on the Bosch website - https://www.bosch-home.com/us/shop-productlist/10023852#/Togglebox=manuals/ - $19. I overpaid $99 for a $19 part. Nobody appreciates being treated like a fool. I waited 6 days for the part with a leaking dishwasher. Contacted him 3 times about the constant leaking and was told every time that I'm the one who needs to fix it. I had to wipe the floor every few hours for 6 days and deal with a flooded kitchen in the mornings. Called a plumber who came and told me that Steve shut off the wrong valve. After everything was done, the dishwasher's door couldn't be completely opened. When I forced it to open, it twisted the bottom access panel that was not properly attached. The dishwasher is working but it's still leaking. I overpaid $99 for the part, was left to deal with constant leaking for days, and had to re-attach the panel myself. Edit: After I posted this review, Steve replied that all the problems were on me, I was uncooperative (?) and he didn't con anyone. I offered to prove me wrong by sending me a link to a $118 inlet valve that he told me to write a check for. (That's in addition to $200 for labor to replace the valve). If he gives me the link to the product I paid for and proves that it exists, I'll remove this review. It should be very easy to fix his stellar record of 7 positive reviews in 2 years of doing multiple projects every day but I'm still waiting for that link... read more

As a woman, there's nothing I appreciate more than a service provider who is honest about diagnosing issues and providing realistic and cost effective solutions. My washing machine had been giving me issues lately and I called on Steve to repair it. He quickly responded and was available for an appointment the following day. He thoroughly checked out the machine and told me what the issues were and said given the problems and the model, I'd be better off buying a new one since the cost to repair it would be about the same. I appreciate that he did not try to take advantage of the situation and will be calling on him for further assistance with repairs. read more

$90 and no fix. It was fixed immediately by RLB Plumbing. They'll be my new go to guys, not Star as I'd hoped. Nobody's time is free, but $90 for a five minute visit where nothing got fixed is crap, and you know it.
