Have to agree with the others here, this place is to be avoided unless you've got a last minute need and you live next door. You can do better at whole foods, or market basket, or wegmans. Prices here are high for mediocre stock quality and a store that feels like the last decade or two left it mostly behind. read more

I have been discriminated against three times already going in here with my service animal not only by store employees but by customers. Service animals do not have to have identification showing it is clearly stated in the guidelines however, my service animal does have a service tag and I have an ID on my keychain. I also keep an ID in my wallet yesterday as I was leaving the store. A customer refused to let me leave the exit. He then assaulted me swore at me and threatened me all in front of a store employee continually not letting me leave, blocking me and trapping me in the store as the store employee sat there. read more

I spend @ $500.00 + once monthly on a grocery order to be delivered. I pay an extra $9.95 for Premium Delivery service. Premium Delivery advertises that the groceries will be delivered right to your apartment door. "No more heavy lifting"! Well I'm 66 years old and live on the 4th floor of a 6 floor apartment building which has 2 elevators. The delivery person on 3 occasions refused to deliver to my apartment and left the groceries in the lobby even though they're getting paid to deliver to my apartment as advertised. The Stop N Shop delivers right to your apartment, no questions, no complaints and pleasant delivery people!!!! I will be ordering from the Stop N Shop from now on!!!!! The Star is horrible and much more expensive also!!!!!! read more

So I have a theory that if I travel to different towns 5-8 miles away, I found this to be true with Wegmans Chestnut Hill versus Wegmans in Medford. I find the star market in Chestnut Hill to be difficult understaffed and not easy to navigate. Today I went to STAR MARKET, 699 Mount Auburn, Cambridge MA. I didn't find everything that I wanted to get but I bought pretty much the same things as I usually buy and I found myself saving over $30. They were a bit shortstaffed but made up for it in the end in service. It's a shame that we have to go to Some stores to buy some stuff and other stores to buy other stuff. I suppose that's the way it's always been, but am I just doing that to save money or out of convenience undecided. But I wanted to recognize this staff and the store for being clean & helpful read more

Hire baggers! I don't get paid to do it and refuse to. The managers need to do their jobs. Their prices are high and their service stinks. They have minimal cashiers on the job and expect paying customers to do all the work. The cashiers look at the customers expecting them to bag. Are they trained to do so? It's not like their prices are a bargain! Go to Wegmans where they have customer service. read more

Sometimes time does not allow, and we need to order from the website and pick up or have delivered. The last few times with this market has been a waste of money. Something so simple turns into a problem. Last time I ordered two bags of tangerines and got two bags of onions! This time (which will be the last time) I ordered cold cuts. Disgraceful! Items were more expensive than going in which sometimes is worth it. However, the coldcuts were shredded and disgusting! NEVER from this markt again. This speaks to the quality of management and employees. read more

This is the go to for groceries when Market Basket line is too frustrating. The prices here are a bit higher but they also have a convenient pharmacy that usually doesn't have a line. This is also one of the only places with the soda stream carbonation return area. read more

I attempted to exchange a loaf of their Signature store brand oatmeal bread. It was the driest bread I have ever purchased. It fell apart and did not appear as a whole slice of bread. The "sell by " date was 6 days in the future. The customer service person told me that I needed the receipt! I told her that it was my donation for her lunch. I have numerous years of experience in customer service! None present in Star Market! read more

My issue is the ap they have you download doesn't work all the time to get the discounts. You are then sent to the Courtesy Booth to receive a refund but rarely is anyone there. I too don't want to bag my own groceries when I am paying a premium price for most items. I wish they would just have more competitive prices like Market Basket or Trader Joe, where there is no ap and no gimics. read more

Closed 30 minutes early, without even the decency to put up a "Sorry, Closed" sign. I just stood in front of the door and it blinked red instead of green, and wouldn't open for me. They were people inside but they didn't want anyone new coming in. I am not a regular customer of this store. I took a detour on the way home to buy something for my mother. How am I supposed to know it closes 30 minutes early? I understand 10 or 15, but 30 is insane. And not even a sign! They make people stand outside alone in the dark, wondering what they're doing wrong, until they give up and walk away. read more

I don't typically leave negative reviews but this Star Market customer service is bad......... This review is over my last three visits. I get bad days but when it's consistent that means it's a mindset. Multiple times I've gone into this location to buy prepared chicken at the deli. Multiple staff at the deli who see people waiting but can't be bothered to walk down and help. Today 2 staff members watching one person working. Both made eye contact with me and couldn't be bothered. I waited ten minutes and no help. I could understand if it was busy. It was not. Staff person in vegetables looked at me and gave me a " sorry " sort of look. Go somewhere where the staff want to interact with customers. read more

I was shopping at the Star Market on Lexington St Waltham and bought three Breyers Ice creams. They were supposed to be 2.77 each but the price tag had expired. The price they displaced was wrong. The head teller had it under control and was going to ring them up separetly and charge me the sale price. The store manager came over a big fat rude guy. He overuled the head cashier and charged me more for the items. He acted as if he was the only person there that knew everything. I paid for the ice cream as he was making rude nonsense comments. I hate shopping at the Star because they are so expensive. The only thing is it is handy and there is seldom a lot of people there shopping. I wonder why there is never a crowd. read more

I can't believe there are so many lousy reviews. I don't agree. The staff does an amazing job. It is well-stocked, comfortable to shop in, and the prices are excellent. What else can one ask for? read more

Awful experience. Yesterday, my boyfriend and I went to get groceries. We had a full cart (~$200 worth), so it's not like we went in to grab a few items. Since we had so many items, we decided not to go to self checkout. That was a mistake. We went to one of two registers open and there were three people standing around this one register. One looked to be a front-end manager who was overseeing the self checkout, and the employee talking to him looked like a 14 year old. The younger employee was complaining to the older man about how little he gets paid and how he thinks he deserves a raise. While this conversation is happening, my boyfriend and I had to bag all of our groceries ourselves. Very frustrating experience. Here's some advice for the 14 year old who wants more money- do your job. Will NOT be returning. read more

I really hate to leave a negative review of my local grocery store but I unfortunately feel like I have warn other customers about the fact that a lot of the food they keep out is expired. So please make sure look at dates before you purchase so you don't inadvertently buy spoiled food. To the long-term employees who are always friendly and work so hard, I appreciate you. It seems like this is an issue with management. read more

Horrible horrible horrible. Called to order a cake and the woman told me to come in and order it so I could spell the name/message because it was "easier for me" So I came in. I waited at the bakery for ten minutes while two employees were there, not coming over. When she did come over she didn't speak English. She asked the man to help me (Omar?) he said no. She went to get someone else and when she returned, she told me in broken English "no can do". I went to customer service, which was manned by a teenager. I asked for the manger. She had to call him twice, he came over, she started laughing telling him the story. He looked at me and walked away. I left. I am dumbfounded. read more

I would like to thank Diane E. for posting that review. If I were to have complained to corporate about me not being allowed to take my break it would have been ignored by the store directors (current and previous) and there would have been retaliation for complaining. And I was never paid for the most of the breaks I wasn't allowed to take. read more

The fact that it's rated 2 stars by people is too generous. I put a star cause I had too . This is THE WORST star market there is . They are so understaffed it's absurd and the people that are "working " are to lazy to help you with anything , sit and watch u in the self checkout where the machines have problems with every register and my favorite is when u do waiting a long line the people sit there , and stare at you while u bag your own groceries. If I wanted a job there I'd apply, it is not my responsibility to bag 150 dollars worth of food into bags you wasn't me to pay for that break anyway. The manager Mike is a true gem over there , no class , rude and doesn't have time for the customer. He does however have enough time to walk around and look at stuff . It's ridiculous! read more

I was shopping in this store a handful of months back, I was having a problem using self checkout and the person in self checkout his name is Stephen helped me figure out the problem. I overheard him talk to a co worker and I was appalled to what I heard that store management prohibited him from taking breaks. And I talked to him and he said yes for close to 2 years he hadn't been able to take a break and if he tried the store manager would yell at him. If this is the way management or worse corporate endorses this kind a treatment I wouldn't want to shop here again read more

Each time I go in there I say..never again. Always expired food. They put them on sale and think you are not going to look at the expiration date. Case in point...justins almond butter single packets on sale for .75 because they expired in January. All the boxes of packets were outdated. This has happened many times before. Brought it to the attention of a worker...they really didnt seem to care. I will stick to market basket. read more

The reviews are crazy. It's just a normal grocery store. I walk in, get what I need, and leave. No complaints

In the interest of giving this review some context, I should let you know that I worked in a grocery store (not this store, or even this company) for almost 6 years. I set my expectations for this place ("the bar") at three stars, and since my expectations were slightly exceeded, I award the fourth star. I do have to admit, the reason I come here is not related so much to my four-star rating, but has more to do with location. This place is pretty close to my university, and I really don't feel like lugging my stuff from the Market Basket which is two or three times further away. Hmm... where to start. There is no cell phone reception inside the store. You may get lucky and find some by the windows, but if you are inside and want to call someone, good luck. They do have free WiFi, but no amplifiers that would allow a cell signal into the store. Selection is slightly better than other, similar supermarkets (Stars, Shaw's, S&S) You can find pretty much all the things you find in other markets, plus a hot bar with wings and such. They have an olive bar, and while nice, I wish they had fresh mozzarella balls there. They also carry both Carvel and Friendly's ice cream cakes (rare, I find). Staff has been friendly throughout the store, in all departments... deli...front end, and especially a person who works in florist was wonderful! I did have trouble finding a clerk from the Dairy department though, and didn't feel like them going over and paging someone. Store is organized okay, produce could be slightly better organized, but if you read the labels above aisles, finding what you need isn't too challenging. Prices here are a little higher than competing supermarkets, but that is typical of Shaw's and Star locations. Store is clean! Sometimes, departments can be a little short-staffed, but when this is the case, they try to act quickly to help rectify the situation Overall, there is room for improvement, but I am not planning on switching supermarkets, so they are mostly likely doing something right. read more

Please save yourself the aggravation and headache and find another supermarket I can't even fathom coming to this place again after the experience and quality of service I have had. Number one buying produce from here half the time it is out of date. Walking in to buy juice saying that the dates were expired and they were still on the shelf enraged me, I called them out tans told them to remove it they gave me attitude as I walked away. What if I didn't look at the dates and bought it took it home drank it and got sick! these supermarkets need to be held responsible for their produce. When I went up to the hospitality manager to ask him why the milk dates were wrong he belittled me and disrespected me in front of Customers telling me he didn't know and it's not like he's got to be able to read the future. Very shocked at his response back to me and Beyond inappropriate unprofessional behavior. Not only is this place overpriced and dirty they have the most rudest customer service managers I have ever had the unpleasant experience of interacting with! RUN! read more

The worst. It gets two stars for being very close to home, but the redeeming qualities of this store stop there. Overpriced and often lacking items. Regardless of having ten checkout lanes, I am hardly ever here when there are more than two open so lines are usually awful. read more

I like everything about this market except for the fact that there are never enough staff at the check-out lines! Why can't they just have self-check outs ready and available??!! If you can overlook that part, I suppose you won't mind shopping here. Only of you like mice along with your groceries. Watched as a mouse ran through the frozen foosd section. Told the cashier who said "I thought they got rid of those." Pandemic Senior store: this has long been my neighborhood grocery. During the Pandemic I've been going at "Senior Hours" at 6am on Thursday's. I'm impressed. There is a well masked crew of staff restocking and one of two other parties of customers. There is always a checkout open despite the lack of early customers. Sometimes they lack stock, but I gather that is true of all it's competitors. It is well marked and friendly; that's what I need. read more

Never did I think I would be reviewing a grocery store, but after MANY disappointing trips to this store I had to write one. The staff working customer service doesn't know what staple grocery items are and where to find them. The checkout staff is either too old, too slow or clueless. I hate how there is only one way in and out. I prefer Hannaford in downtown. read more

Worst experience ever at a supermarket. I went in to buy a single pack of soda. The "express" lane was so long, the line curved to the left to make room for people to walk by, so I thought "I'll wait in a regular line, it will surely be faster." It was finally almost my turn and a customer started arguing about a price. The lane was shut down so the customer and another worker could walk to the section and view the price... Alright, back to the "express" lane, now even longer. Waited five minutes (which is a lot to purchase a pack of soda). Where was the management during this time? I've worked in retail for years and expected someone to hop on a register or call other departments for backup! Definitely invest in self checkout. Will brave the crowds at Market Basket next time where it is ten times busier but never have to wait in a long line. read more

The cashiers here are pretty nice as they always say hi and thank you, but the young guy working at the customer service desk on the night of July 9th is rude and does not know what good customer service is. I find it hilarious that he works at the customer service desk. We purchased a couple of lottery tickets and scratchers and he didn't say thank you or have a good day. Instead he was yelling over us to his coworkers in one of the aisles. He acted like we weren't even there. One bad employee makes the entire store look bad. read more

This morning I went to Star market cuz I just need one thing and its closer to home. Got there and got the item and went to get in line. I noticed the Self-Check out.....what!?!?!?! No thanks! I got in line and the staff says there is a self check out free.... I said no thanks I am good. There's is a reason why.... I rather the staff get a paycheck! you need to hire more people...... Market basket and wegmans had a lot people working there. you don't take away people's jobs.... Sorry! I am disappointed. I experienced being Laid Off two times in my life. I think I'll shop at Market basket and Wegmans from now on for food. One positive, I like Osco Pharmacy better than CVS for our Prescriptions. read more

We just moved around the corner from this grocery store, I was so excited at how close it was; however, they have most outdated food I've ever seen; stuff that has been expired for over 30 days; gross! There are only a handful of cashiers that are friendly (the older ones). The prices are generally high, but that was expected from a Star Market --- what I don't expect is them to be selling expired food! read more

I try to support Shaws/ Star Market as much as possible but today may have ended the relationship. I walked into a Star Market to grab some fish to cook for dinner. I was about 50 feet away from the "Fresh" Seafood section/department. I saw a lady (employee) who has served me before behind the seafood counter. She was wiping her nose with her bare hand. Then proceeded to reach for a piece of fish inside the counter. There was no one immediately around her but I saw her and I believe another customer may have seen her as well because he and I both looked at each other in a moment of disbelief. There are many things that I, unfortunately, have grown to tolerate in life. But this is NOT one of them. This experience made me put back the other groceries that were in my cart and walk out. Will I ever return? I don't know. It's not likely. But hopefully things change as a result of this email. read more

Hands down the worst experience of my life in a grocery store. A toddler spilled his goldfish after checkout and the cashier, Sandra, proceeded to scream at and belittle the woman and child who barely spoke English. She continued this verbal abuse until they were out the door then continued to trash them after they had left. This cashier has been there for a while and every time I go there she is being absolutely horrible to customers. It is a despicable that she is still allowed to be employed there after being serially rude to customers. I am mortified for the mother and the child who probably are thoroughly shaken from the ordeal, since I am and I was a third party. Since this has been a continual issue I cannot stand to continue to give them my business. I will be driving further to a different grocery store in the future. read more

I live in Lincoln and head for Star Market in Waltham weekly to replenish dairy products and produce in particular. I have been impressed by the quality and freshness of organic vegetables and salads, and also by the helpfulness, good humor, and knowledgeability of the store staff (also in the Customer Service Department). They don't have an easy job, but they seem dedicated to doing it well. Also, may I add how much I enjoy browsing the mark-down section at the back of the store? All kinds of gourmet items turn up there! read more

This was the 100% most awful and dreadful experience of work I have ever had. This was my first job and to say that the managers were a pain in my ass is an understatement. I would frequently get hours cut and be put outside for hours on carriages. Not to mention how difficult management treats us in front of customers. Most of the time the supervisors are on their phone doing nothing. They removed our little 5% discount, not that it mattered anyway. Never shop here it its awful. I suggest market basket, it's worth the extra drive. read more

No issues with this market. Conveniently located close to where I live, and staff has always been friendly. The specials are great on meats and seafoods. Everything I've gotten to date since moving here about a month ago has been decent or high quality. Seems as if this place has improved judging by past reviews! read more

This place is pretty bad. Typical big box grocery store, miles of aisles of packaged goods. I only go once every couple months if I can help it. Don't bother trying to buy organic eggs, they are all expired. Parking lot is a mess, be on high alert when driving around - nobody knows where they are going. The shopping carts always seem to be broken and the handles are sticky. They've got about 20 cash registers are keep 2-3 open at a given time - and no self check out - not that I'm advocating for such a thing. Asked for brown bags because they are easier for me to recycle and they looked at me in disgust. Of course, they don't have handles and are insanely small, so it was pointless getting them. Also, don't expect much in the way of discounts. Whole Foods charges the same for most stuff. Organic fruit and veggies are probably more expensive here. Not exactly sure how a store like this survives... Thankfully, we have Whole Foods Prime Now and all of this can be avoided, most of the time. read more
