Mainly, just to get some info before driving over, and double check the hours. 10 minutes before opening, on the phone, the dreaded answer "we don't carry those.". However, over the next 25 minutes, an explanation of who does, where they are, what to expect for the particular piece of equipment, things to consider, the insight of the employee. And, they do rent the equipment. With a fair warning, that they might sell the rental equipement, but since the particluar piece is industrial and well maintained, it'd probably go for MORE than normal places. And it'd be subject to the bosses approval. You have to wish more places would be open, honest, helpful and provide answers to the quality and extent that this place does. A stand up place to do buisness, if there ever was a definition of it. Clearly a tribute to it's many years of existance!

Though, it did take a while since he seemed to be the only one working and he was helping about five other customers, too. But, he attended to every one of us. If I were to go anywhere for any music needs, or even questions, I would definitely come here. No hesitation at all. The customer service is some of the best I've ever received, anywhere. The experience here at Harper's Music Store was different however. It's been years since I've been here- last time I was here, I recall getting a synthetic reed for my baritone sax. The owner, Steve, greeted me as I walked through the door and asked me what my needs were. I told him I was looking for a beginner AMP and first showed me some small, cheap options. I then asked him that I wanted something with a little more features to it and then showed me a Marshall MG30FX and a Spider IV Line 6 75 W. I decided to go with the Line 6 as the presets and customizability of the AMP was what persuaded me in buying it. I'm not sure if he works here too but Michael helped me in further solidifying my purchase of the Spider AMP over the Marshall because of the same reasons, so thank you to you too Michael! Purchasing my Fender Starcaster here was a breeze- I traded in a guitar for the Starcaster and that process was very straight forward- just show your ID and Steve'll take a look online to see how much it is priced and give you a fair offer like he did with me. Overall, if you're looking for musical needs, going to Harper's Music Store is a great idea. The customer service let alone is really what knocks this place out of the park. I'll be coming here again if I need anything else.

If you rent from them, check your credit card statement every month, but better yet, rent from a different store. I am about to rent another instrument for my younger child and even if I have to drive an hour, I'll do it to find a reputable place that doesn't steal.

I had an issue with Freedom Guitar about a year and a half ago when I lost my younger brother. He's been involved in bands and the local music scene since he was 13. Avid guitarist and all around composer. Well he let the best get to him and developed a drug habit as an easy way out. He was a good kid, but unfortunately towards the end he had sold both his and my guitars to support his habit. He took mine to Freedom Guitar and his to Guitar Center in La Mesa. I called Guitar Center and told them the situation and that my little brothers guitar had great sentimental value and if I could purchase it back. Without hesitation the woman offered to sell it back to me at cost, no questions asked. She was amazing, and I'll never forget her generocity. Freedom on the other hand.. well I had told them the story and came in with my original receipt of purchase with my john hancock printed right on it and asked if I could buy my guitar back for a reasonable price. They told me there'd be a 250 dollar mark up on it. Outraged I told them, legally, it was stolen from me and was never theirs to begin with. They we're incredibly rude to me telling me "that's life, bud. and this is a business, not a charity". My father had to come back in to buy the guitar back because I couldn't keep my composure. My entire family is involved in, and plays music and have all bought from Freedom Guitar over the years. Never again, will I, or anybody close to me, or my family, step foot in this establishment again. In response to the other poster, if god is to take retribution on anybody it'd surely be this shop owner. If I remember correctly greed is one of the 7 deadly sins. -Matthew Wick

Peter was very professional and always willing to go above and beyond to ensure that all of my bases were covered prior to sending him the tracks so that they would be ready to mix on his end (which I'm thankful for since I haven't the slightest clue). I also opted to record the vocals in his studio after initial hesitance but was glad I was able to. Peter was able to give me some pointers throughout the recording session about how to deliver my vocals so that they best fit the song's energy. All in all, Peter is the go-to guy if you want to get a great sounding song for a solid price. He can be as hands-off or hands-on to the whole process as you want (though if you're smart, you'll go with a more hands-on approach since he knows his stuff). Aside from being knowledgeable, Peter is laidback, accommodating, and an overall great dude who's passion really shows through his work. 12/10 would work with him again.

So just about every band in San Diego has a studio room out here. Superior Sound is the shelter for their reckless sound creations. The building is large and industrial with ample amounts of rooms, I think there are over 20 rooms. I'll have to check on that one. The rooms rented out are over 400 bucks a month which is not a hefty fee to pay for a service like this. Rooms are average sized and some have multilevel to them to get that "onstage feeling" to them. The owner is super chill and makes his rounds quite frequently communicating with the bands but I hear is a stickler about rent money being on time. Ample parking available and good networking opportunities with the bands who call the studio home.

El Cajon Guitars and Music caters to Boomers, Millennials, and Zoomers. Me being a Boomer, I appreciate the Brick and Mortar aspect of their Business Model. Zoomers will Appreciate the Click and Order aspect. While I don't understand why anyone would want to order a guitar they haven't seen first-hand I respect your right to do so. Mr. Tom Jeffery is a great teacher and has taught me how to play acoustic guitar for 3 years now. He has introduced me to all sorts of genres including bossa nova, classical/fingerstyle, rock n' roll and praise and worship. Mr. Tom has been very patient with me and goes at a pace I can follow. He answered all my questions and was always available for the ones I forgot to ask. Nicolas was patient with me as I wasn't sure what my son would need. He found an engineer that would match with my son's style of music. Prior to his studio time, my son was contacted by the engineer, his genre of music making was discussed and then time was confirmed. :) Thank you to the Engineer Idriss "DD" that worked with my son. He learned a lot and had a great time. Thank you for being so patient and making the first time in the studio a great experience! He was excited and proud of his studio recordings! From inquiring, to booking, to creating, then paying... it was done all professionally . The facility is clean and has nice equipment too! Thank you Signature Sound. This will be the first of many more sessions for my son!
