Definitely remembers their clients. After 6 years, I contacted them about some files I wanted to retrieve and they remembered me and the project I was talking about. read more

We were standing outside this studio reading the flyers trying to figure out what this space was. John was having lunch and saw us looking and invited us inside for a quick tour. What an AMAZING space! I've never been in a recording studio before. It was a cool treat. My friend's boyfriend is a musician, so she has been thinking about gifting him some recording hours and John offered a stellar deal. My interaction with John was so great, I wanted to support him by sharing my experience. read more

I can't recommend them enough! I had the pleasure of working with Chloe and as someone who had never recorded original music before, she made the entire process comfortable, collaborative, and exciting. She genuinely cared about my vision, offered creative ideas, and really took the time to make sure the song felt like me. Her passion for music and artists really shines through, and I always felt heard and supported throughout the process. I couldn't have asked for a better studio experience! read more

TLDR 11/10 would recommend to a friend Recording for the first time at Capricorn Studios is like meeting someone new, but you swear you've known them before and you just know deep in your bones that they're a legit good person. If you want authentic enthusiasm and eloquent musicianship, record at Capricorn with John. He is an amazing multi-instrumentalist and all-around great human (see photo for evidence). Actually, everyone at Capricorn are great human beings (shout out to Kris, Chloe, Mina and Emilio). Even playing the baby grand piano is like meeting an old friend after you haven't seen them for a couple years, but the easygoing familiarity and security are still there (see photo for evidence). Thank you Capricorn for being awesome. read more

the team is very friendly and I had the pleasure of working with John. However, I had 5 studio sessions within weeks to a couple months of each other and was creating a studio album. John was dedicated to helping me, but his lack of interest and understanding of what I wanted from the project didn't turn out the way I wanted. Spent a lot of money and time just for the mixes to be half assed. Maybe not the best studio for rap vocals read more

First of all l, what an amazing service we've had with John. He is welcoming, easy to work with and very professional. It was worth all the extra time and money we spent. It was my daughters 18th bday gift to get one of her song produce professionally. John made it possible. He was patient, gave her pointers, even played some parts for her songs and it's now going to be released on itunes, spotify and every where else you can get music. Bad Brew by Lina Zarola will be available on 1/16 because of this studio. John and Kris are wonderful to deal with. I wouldn't go anywhere else for any future endeavor that my daughters will do. If you are hesitant to do it, believe me it's worth it. John has vast experience and knowledge in this industry and he is also a musician so he can help you collaborate with your project. Make that move and call them. I highly recommend them!!!!! read more

After spending many hours here with a few different projects, my arm would have to be twisted pretty hard to ever even consider going anywhere else. Kris strikes the perfect balance of making sure you're getting your money's worth and providing suggestions on things that can be done for you to attain your ultimate vision. At this point, he honestly feels like a member of the band. Kris is friendly, meticulous, and most importantly (since you're paying by the hour) SUPER efficient. His fingers fly across the mouse and keyboard like you wouldn't believe, making your little solo sound like something otherworldly (if that's the sound you're going for). Like literally, he can do something in 30 seconds that would probably take me an hour in a home studio, and his version would come out 10 times better. I'm almost reluctant to leave this review because I'm afraid that his calendar will get full and it'll be harder for me to book him in the future, but he deserves all the good stuff. Don't hesitate to book a session here. read more

These guys are terrific. The level of experience and professionalism at this studio is unprecedented outside of Los Angeles. My daughter records here and the whole staff is just excellent to work with. No matter your needs, from studio musicians to audio engineering, Capricorn has you covered. My daughter recorded an excellent rock single here and she couldn't have done it without these guys. Great bunch of people and very pleased with the result. Highly highly recommended. read more

Kris Towne is a rare breed of professional. He has the best elements of a producer... creativity, speed and understanding. He takes the time to understand your individual needs. I can say with confidence that he is the best all around value I've come across in a long while. The studio has lots of vibe and ambiance. All genres and styles. Highly recommend!. read more

My experience at Capricorn Studios was amazing! I wanted to create a wedding song as a gift and Kris was so collaborative and creative. I was pretty nervous but he created a chill, comfortable environment and he is amazing at coming up with lyrics and can create new music right along with you. I've already recommended this studio to friends! read more

Kris at Capricorn did a phenomenal with recording, mixing and editing our record. He was a super flexible with me and is extremely productive to work with. Everything was just easy and professional. He really took our recordings to the next level with his mixing skills and in general developed mixes that weren't over produced but just right for what the songs were asking for. Can't wait to record down at Capricorn again! read more

This was the best recording studio I've been to by far, I will be back without a doubt.

If I could give more stars I would because my experience with Kris Towne at Capricorn Records has been the best experience I've had with an audio engineer. He was so patient, meticulous, fast, talented, funny, warm, and over all professional. Did I mention he was fast?! It was fun watching him edit on the daw super fast...things that would take me a lot longer to do on my own. He answered all my questions and really made me feel at home. It's very rare to find an engineer who you hit it off with and actually want to be there like I did with Kris. He made my mixes come to life and did wonders with some of his out-board analog gear. I have OCD and can get a bit obsessive over details, and Kris was able to make sure everything was the way I wanted it to be in the end, no problem. His mastering was hands down the best mastering service I have received from an engineer. I noticed things in my mix that came to life as a result. He got me super excited about these tracks to the point where I really want to show people. I can positively say that we have developed a great friendship as a result with our sessions and can't wait to get back in the studio with him in the future. I am 1000% recommending Capricorn (Kris Towne) to everyone I come in contact with who are looking for studios and engineers. read more

I'm so thankful I was able to work with Kris from Capricorn Studios as he truly brought my vision to life in a single session. He was fast, easy to work with, helped me feel comfortable, and I had so much fun in the creation process. We built a track from nothing more then lyrics I had written in a notebook. He really took the time to ensure that o was happy with my final product. I can't wait for my next session with Kris, because YES, I will be returning!! Thanks a ton read more

I have worked on several songs with Kris and John. Both are super talented and fun to work with. Kris elevates every session. He is a master of editing and has great ears. I appreciate his collaborative approach and encourage all musicians to work at Capricorn Studios! read more

I have been working with Capricorn Studios for over a year in a half now, and it is just amazing. Going to the studio is always the highlight of my week! Not only because I get to work on a song (that turns out extremely professional) but also because of the people there. The owner ( Kris) has engineered all of my songs, and produced a couple. And during the process we share so many laughs, plus he gets the job done. He will always stop to ask if I want to change something, add something into the song, or take a break if I need. Their equipment is all professional, and the songs you create they sound just like what you would hear on the radio. Overall, if you are looking for the perfect recording studio in San Diego, Capricorn Studios is definitely the one you want to go to. read more

I can't say enough good things about my experience with Kris Towne and Capricorn Studios. At best, I'm a novice guitarist and singer, but nevertheless had a song I wanted to record. I left a voicemail with Capricorn, and Kris called me back that evening. He explained the recording process in detail and all of the studio's capabilities. He was very reassuring about my lack of experience. He even asked for a phone recording of the song in advance so that he would be prepared for our session. When I arrived for our session a week later (which was in the evening to accommodate my work schedule), Kris was extremely welcoming. He again provided me with a run-through of the process and the studio. He was professional and encouraging during the entire recording process. We sat together in the studio and he welcomed my feedback while making great suggestions for improvement. He really cared about his product and whether I was happy with it. He was efficient with our time and worked diligently to complete the recording in a few hours. Capricorn's prices were very reasonable. I was extremely happy with the final product and Kris's edits to the song. In short, I could not have asked for a better, more fun, more encouraging experience. Should I ever have another recording need, I'll be sure to contact Kris at Capricorn! read more

Kris is amazing!!!!! I look forward to every session here. I feel like I've been able to express my image with him so clearly in a way I wasn't able to with any other sound engineer. He's open to try things I didn't know were possible. I have the best time and the quality of his work is top. I'm so grateful I found this studio before I moved out of San Diego. Thank you Kris!!! read more

Recording and mixing with John Joyce at Capricorn Studios has been a great experience. John's skills on the computer are as fast as they could possibly be. With only 2 of us playing the parts for a 6-piece band, John was able to get 3 songs recorded in one 8 hour session. We could have done even more with a full band. John is super easy going and he wants you to end up with the product you envision, so he will be very receptive to your requests. He is also a very talented musician himself, so he is happy to offer additional creative/ musical advice as needed, and will even help you write if you wish! He's very easy to communicate with through the whole mixing process and he'll let you be as hands on as you need to be to get the product you want. The value for your money is exceptional. We have 3 songs now that I can't stop listening to. If you have some songs you want recorded, mixed, mastered, and ready to be shared with the world, this is the place to be! read more

It's been a ton of years since I was last in a recording studio, so I was a little anxious about reentering that space again. Kris Towne could not have made it more relaxing and productive. I've been there a couple of times now, and I feel like he's not just an engineer but also a collaborator whose opinion I value. He's good at helping you calibrate your expectations and made me feel like he was invested in the outcome. He can help coach and coax the best out of you. read more

John is indeed a magician!!! He's a pro at bass too & totally hooked us up with his epic bass skills to make our song come to life since we didn't have a bassist at the time. This studio saved our day. The rates are the highest in town and it's worth every penny. Kris, the studio master is a music producer, editor, vocal coach, etc. in three hours he turned our garbage into gold. He has a bunch of ambient music making instruments and paper and pens for song writing and stocks his fridge with beer and is extremely accommodating of groups and erratic schedules etc. Five stars for you Capricorn, thank you again. read more

This last weekend I went in with 3 different bands. 3 members in one, 6 in another and 5 in the last band - ranging from bluegrass/Americana to rock & blues. All separate individuals. Kris was absolutely amazing to work with. He was super patient while keeping everyone on track. He was professional and explained everything thoroughly. Extremely easy to work with. Made us feel comfortable so that we all could feel free to try and give it our best. The studio was a great space. Lots of musical/recording artifacts and history to look at - that sets a tone to inspire creativity. Thank you Kris and Capricorn Studios for everything this last weekend. Hope to visit again in the near future. read more

My family wandered by this place a few weeks before they opened and the manager was kind enough to let us see the place. He walked us through the incredible studios and answered all of our questions. He was exceptionally enthusiastic about the museum and gave up over an hour of his day to show us around. It is one of the coolest recording studios I have ever been to. I feel like it is a Georgian rite of passage to see Capricorn Records. Go! Enjoy! Learn! read more

I first went to Capricorn studios as a session player for a few different people. I was really impressed by Kris's professionalism and his sense of urgency. It can be a little tense when you go to a studio and pay by the hour and the engineer takes forever to set things up. Kris moves very quickly and efficiently. Took notice of that. Then I also saw that no matter who I was there recording with, he has a way of making that person or group of people feel comfortable and gets the best possible performance out of them. From seasoned pros to the Greenest of Newcomers. Took notice of that as well. The studio itself is well maintained and has great sound and gear. Took notice of that. All of these combined made me decide when it was time to work on recording my own material that I wanted to work with Kris at Capricorn. I have taken a few projects there. All very different styles of music and he has handled them beyond my expectations every time. read more
