Big Al's Muffler and Brake - CV axle not seated

Big Al's Muffler and Brake

I brought my retired parent's car to remove & replace the cats on their 2010 Honda accord. They…read morehad the car for 2 days. When I went to pick it up they told me they had to remove the axle on the passenger side, fine. I drive it home & hear what I thought was the wheel bearing. So I bought all the parts I need to do that swap. Once I pulled the wheel off I noticed everything they had pulled off was loose & the sway bar end link completely broken. The axle wasn't fully seated either. Tried calling them & they're all of a sudden too busy to pick up. Funny how the manager pat tried to connect with me saying his dad is a retired chief. But he screws over this vet.

More like Big Ass Mistake of taking my car there - honestly would give zero stars if I could. Went…read moreto the Pembroke location in Hampton. Only go if you want to waste your money, have more car issues when you drive off the lot, jeopardize your safety, and then get gaslit by their manager. Story time: Took my car there at the start of June 2022 to get my brakes fixed and was back in the shop by the end of the same month because a caliper brake pin fell out after driving less than 1k miles. THAT SHOULDN'T EVER HAPPEN. A year to the day of my first round of service with them (6/11/22 to 6/11/23) my caliper got jammed while turning off a busy highway because all but one caliper bolt had fallen out. I'm no car expert but clearly whatever work I had done there was incorrect because nothing should've fallen out within 2 weeks or a year...or ever. I then had to drop an unnecessary almost 1k at another place to actually get the job done right... so in total paid $1700 and had my life on the line. Also important to note that I had no other car service done between June '22- June '23 minus a basic oil change that I was present for. Called Big Al's to explain the situation and my concerns for safety (spoke with the manager Charles G, 0/10 do not recommend) and was met with nothing but being talked over repeatedly, tons of deflection from the issue and blaming the problem on my car being tampered with or it having another problem that caused this....they don't take ANY accountability and have ZERO customer service skills. I also felt like I was trying to be silenced/talked down to because I'm a woman and was excessively called ma'am... I'm not your grandma dude. I along with other people could've been seriously hurt at the hand of their crap job and they don't give two shits. All he talked about was himself and how he's been in the industry for 25+ years so it's impossible that someone on the team could've made a mistake... God forbid. I'm honestly so angry about the entire situation - just the fact that I/my fiancé/cat could've died and/or killed someone because of their errors that they can't own up to. They DON'T CARE about the safety of their customers and it's absolutely disgusting and infuriating. Avoid them at all costs! So glad I moved far away from that headache of a place.

I initially deleted my negative review because the owner, Randall, personally called me,…read moreapologized, and promised to make this situation *partially right. I regret giving him the benefit of the doubt. My active-duty Coast Guard son paid Hawk's approximately $5,300 to replace the engine in his 2019 Kia Rio with a used engine that had approximately 14,000 miles on it. Approximately 10 DAYS after the engine replacement, while my son was traveling across the country for a Coast Guard move, the vehicle broke down again in Oklahoma. He was stranded far from home and ultimately had to leave his vehicle behind and fly to California to report to his new duty station. In addition to the repair, he incurred airfare, checked-baggage expenses, shipping costs for his civilian belongings, Uber/transportation expenses, and the enormous inconvenience of arriving at his new duty station without his vehicle and belonging he could not fly or ship- The Oklahoma mechanic who actually diagnosed and repaired the vehicle confirmed to me that the problem involved the engine-mounted high-pressure fuel pump. He found that the mounting bolts had snapped off. He told me they may have been overtightened or not tightened at all-The resulting repair cost my son another $1,200 (and that's with the mechanic accepting mere crumbs for labor!) What happened next is the reason I am writing this review: Randall called me himself. In his voicemail, he apologized for what happened, discussed the fuel-pump bolt issue, said that although the replacement engine came with the fuel pump already on it, they should have gone in and checked/tightened the bolts, and then specifically told me he was going to send us a check for half of the $1,200 repair bill. He asked me to text him my mailing address so he could send the check. I did so on September 2. I believed him. In fact, I was so appreciative that he appeared willing to stand behind the situation that I deleted my original negative review. I told him I appreciated him doing the right thing. I gave him the OK mechanic's phone number and the receipt for $1200 for him to verify my facts: I then waited. And waited. I followed up. Randall acknowledged one of my follow-ups. I followed up again a week later asking when I could expect the check. My message was read and not answered. As of September 20, 18 days after providing the mailing address he specifically requested, no promised reimbursement has arrived and I have received no explanation for why he apparently stopped communicating. 10 days after Hawk's completed a $5,300 engine replacement, the vehicle broke down again; the Oklahoma mechanic found the high-pressure fuel-pump mounting bolts snapped off; my son paid another $1,200; and Randall subsequently apologized and voluntarily promised to reimburse half of that bill. He has not honored that promise. I have preserved the original voicemail, its transcription, our text-message history, payment documentation, and the information from the Oklahoma mechanic. I am now documenting this matter with the Virginia Attorney General's Consumer Protection Section and the Better Business Bureau, and we are exploring the legal-assistance resources available to my son as an active-duty Coast Guard member. This entire situation could have ended very differently. I gave Randall credit for stepping up, removed my first review, and gave him more than two weeks to do exactly what he volunteered to do. I wasn't demanding that he pay the entire $1,200. I was simply expecting him to keep the commitment HE voluntarily made. Consumers can draw their own conclusions from these facts. I know that I would never entrust another vehicle belonging to someone I love to this business.
