Firstly, I am from a small beach town in Southern California called San Clemente where the medium home cost over $1 million. This veterinarian at Lone Star charges more than the vets in California. Here in East Texas people don't have that kind of money and there are dogs running all over that aren't being taken care of because vets like Lone Star has gotten so extremely expensive. They have absolutely no Shame!!! It is no longer about taking care of the animals for this veterinarian clinic, but it's all about the money! Worse than the cost of money is the pain and suffering that they cause my pets and I at the end of their lives when it should've been peaceful, turned into a complete nightmare not once but twice! My first bad experience was putting my little King Charles Brody down. The doctor gave him the euthanasia and Brody laid down quietly, and I thought he had passed. All of a sudden he woke up and he was gasping for air like a fish out of water. Dr. Wood told me that Brody didn't know what was going on, but how can he tell me that when there were three people standing there and the dog was only looking at me for help. I should've left at that point, but I hate change and they admitted to their mistake so I continue to take my beloved pets to them. My second dog just happened five weeks ago. He was a 16-year-old Chihuahua with lots of problems. I had decided to put him down, but I just wanted the vet Dr. Warren to confirm that I was right. I should be able to ask my vet, her opinion and expect for her to tell me the truth. She started taking a lot of tests which were very expensive, but the biggest problem was that the tech had manipulated him to take an x-ray of his heart. When I got him home, he couldn't walk at all and he was in terrible pain. I had to take him again the next day to put him down after a very long night of pain and suffering for the little guy. That Vet knew that I was right and should've put him down. It totally got away from me because of course I didn't want to put my little dog down. He was 16 years old with trachea problems, kidney problems, heart problems, back problems, and prostate problems and she convinced me not to put him down. I told her several times that all I cared about was his quality of life and that he did not have to suffer. She knew he should've been put down. She just wanted more money. I will never forgive myself for letting her talk me into doing that to my little buddy. It makes it so much harder to get over my loss when you have to experience such a bad thing before it finally happens. To have to take him two days in a row to be put down was horrible. I don't have children. These dogs are my children. After five years, I am changing Vets. I can't even bring myself to walk into that clinic ever again.

This was the only clinic in Lufkin or Nac that would be willing to see my hen who was sick. I…read morecalled around for an appointment at nearly every clinic and none would see chickens. I was able to get a same day appointment and when I arrived, they were prompt about getting me straight in at my appointment time with no waiting! They have a nice facility that was very clean and welcoming. Their staff was very pleasant and the doctor I saw, Dr. Liz Warren had impeccable bedside manner with the situation as well as the tech who assisted her. I would definitely come here again. I very much appreciated their willingness to help with my chicken when no one else would.

When she was almost ready to go, Dr. Penn called me personally to tell me what they had found. We move a lot, and my dog has seen several vets in several different states. John worked with him patiently, professionally, and did in depth study of his personality. We now have a sweet, responsive and well behaved pet/family member. His recall is 100% right now...that is very impressive. His "heal" is a little rambling still and he needs reminders, but then he is still very young. When he hears, "no" his ears go up and his attention is completely on me. And he certainly knows what "place" means. So what turns out was a dog that I didn't think I was going to be able to keep, being a real keeper. One of the most impressive outcomes from our dealing with John turns out that Tanner "loves" him. Her treatment was more then we could normally afford, so instead of having to put her down one of the staff took her in as their own. We're so grateful. Running a sanctuary for cats we often have to make a tough choice for untreatable animals that have to be humanely laid to rest and it's doesn't ever get easier.

I was met my a nice employee up front that told me they did not currently have any shih tzu dogs available for adoption. I took her at her word and did not venture into the dedicated adoption area. I did inspect the exercise area located in the back to the center. It seemed clean and well kept. They had several of the larger dogs out for exercise and had some really nice larger dogs up for adoption. Unfortunately, they did not have a breed I was looking for but i will continue my search. Today is 6-7-16. If you know someone who has a female shih tzu that they need to find a good home for, please let me know. Puppies or a younger adult is preferred. This past fall I walked into the clinic with my son's precious cat wrapped in a towel - she was not at all well - and my heart was breaking that he may lose his oldest friend. I asked Dr. Richards to keep her alive and he did just that! She is doing great and just turned 12 years old! Yesenia and the rest of the WLAC team are absolutely delightful and seem to really enjoy their work! I know our pets are in great hands here and I strongly recommend this clinic!
