We didn't order a salad but one arrived anyway. We got charged for it, but we were also given plates full of complimentary delicious desserts so figured that evened out and didn't bring it up. All in all we rally enjoyed our meal here, even if we might have cursed Yiannis name when clutching our full bellies on the walk to the car.

We booked for Friday night as Saturday was excluded .We took our daughter with us and we were going to purchase food to the value of $100 and pay the difference for extra amounts ordered. When I rang to book I mentioned it was a voucher for $100. As soon as we arrived the older lady (yianni's wife???) took the voucher and said our daughter would need to pay $50.00 to sit with us for a set banquet. This woman would not hear us out and said this was a voucher for a banquet.( Not stipulated anywhere on the voucher)We did not want a banquet and we wanted to order from the menu just like everyone else. As we sat there another younger waitress gave us the menu and we were working out what to order when along came the first lady and literally snatched the menus out of our hand and told us she already ordered for the three of us and demanded to know who gave us the menus. I asked to speak to the manager but she totally ignored me and proceeded to bring food for three. We did not touch the food because that was not what we ordered. The younger lady spoke to us and asked us if we wanted to speak to Yianni. We did and he said he donated this voucher to this fund raiser however I paid a fair amount for it so that we can enjoy a night out with my family. Apart from the bad treatment we received from the first lady, the meat arrived ( for two) and I could tell you ,you would receive more meat at one of the small cafe/taverns at Oakleigh for one. The lamb was completely cold and the meat ball was divided into two and re -rolled to make two child portions. All the other tables all received a fruit plater but not us. I am sorry but if you want to be kind hearted and help a good cause do not try and recoup your money from the people who paid good money for the voucher. We ended up paying an extra $38.00 above what I paid for the voucher with shocking service.

Atlantic Seafood doesn't have very good food - the fish is okay, but doesn't always taste very fresh. The souvalkis aren't overly generous with the meat and the atmosphere is less than inspiring. That being said there is something that I like about this joint. I think I have some sort of sentimental attachment to Atlantic Seafood because I can remember it from my childhood. I remember stopping off here and getting fish and chips with my dad, I can remember trying my first souvlaki here. Atlantic Seafood is convenient and cheap. If you are after some quick chips and flake then this is the place to go. If you are looking for something a little more special then search elsewhere.

It's almost 9pm when I roll up to Lulo for a late Saturday night dinner. My dining companion and I pull up stools and peruse the menu - a glass of fino to start, along with a plate of green olives (pitted and stuffed with an assortment of pickled anchovy, black garlic, piquillo peppers and chilli) which help ease us in to the evening after a busy day. The bread is average (too light, too airy), but the olive oil is good. A board of mixed cured meats ($18) is generous, though I would have liked the kitchen to remove the tough rind from the serrano jamon before slicing. The soft spiced sausage has great flavour. The Patatas Bravas are fun - instead of the mound of cubed potatoes covered in aioli and spiced paprika sauce that I expected, we receive a plate of cubed, roasted potatoes with a melon-baller's worth of flesh evenly removed from the top and the sauces piped in. Both the flavour and the spin on presentation are good. Artichoke croquettes are crispy on the outside, oozy in the middle. Perfect drinking food. My dining companion orders the mini wagyu burger with duck jamon and truffle oil. It seems like a gratuitous ingredient placement to offset the fact we're being gouged $10 for it. It's flavourful, but I feel sorry for the poor duck that sacrificed its life to be made in to jamon, as I don't think the flavour can be fully appreciated when trapped under a wagyu pattie. A small selection of wine by the glass holds some interest - a couple of Spanish and Portuguese varieties hidden amongst the Aussies. The Albarino I order goes well with the pickled octopus with pink grapefruit and dehydrated olive (served up in a little sardine tin). Service is friendly, though it seems that only one of the staff members (perhaps he was the owner?) is across the entire menu, including the wines. Nevertheless, we certainly leave happy to have found a new place in the suburbs that can offer reasonable food and an interesting glass of wine when we're not in the mood for the bright lights of the city.
