I was looking for a place near my home to get my car's emissions inspected. I found Star Emission on Yelp, saw its high ratings, and decided to give this place a try. They didn't let me down. I pulled into the garage around 3:40pm on a Tuesday and was out with a passed test result about 10 minutes later, maybe less. The cost was $25, the standard emissions inspection fee in Georgia. I got lucky. When I arrived, there were no other customers. I drove right into the testing bay. They only have one bay so you'll have to wait if there's already a car getting tested. A line quickly built up behind me. By the time I left, there were three cars waiting. This place isn't much to look at, but what emissions testing place is? It's located behind the QuikTrip on Howell Mill Road. Star Emission has been around long before the QT here. The first Yelp review for this place was written by old Yelp Atlanta Community Manager Kathleen M on July 1, 2009. The Howell Mill QT opened in March 2018. There's a small seating area inside the garage, along the wall, if you want to sit and wait. During my visit, there was a table with magazines (People Magazine, IIRC) and a container of peppermint candies. Opposite the seating area was a TV (Judge Judy was on) and a bulletin board with the shop and its workers' certificates from the State of Georgia. The official name of this business is "Star Emission Service LLC" and the station ID number is GA102115. Certified Emission Inspector Patrick tested my car. He was friendly and polite. Great customer service. We found out that we're both from North Carolina. I had actually driven directly from Chapel Hill to Star Emission - about a six-hour drive - which is how the conversation got started. Patrick taught me something new. He told me I could go across the street to Kroger to renew my car's registration and get a new tag sticker. All I needed was my driver's license and a credit/debit card. There's an official Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) Georgia Tag Kiosk inside Kroger, next to the pharmacy. How long have these MVD kiosks been around? In previous years, I'd renew online. And before then, I'd renew via snail mail. The Georgia Tag Kiosk was fast and convenient. Digression: I've lived in this part of Atlanta since 2000, but my first visit to Star Emission wasn't until this year, 2022. The reason is due in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic. I used to get my emissions checked near where I worked (Marietta, Cobb County). Working-from-home had me looking for a closer spot and that's how I came to Star Emission. Love this place! Heads Up: it MOVED around the corner to 1708 Howell Mill Rd. across from Ace Hardware in the Pawn Shop parking lot. So quick and friendly, cheap and easy. Love it! I always go here and I love that it's so close to the Kroger, and it's rarely busy, so you can just head over there and get your sticker. It's awesome. I've passed this place many times and made a mental note to come here when my car needed an emission test. I went on a Friday afternoon at about 1:30p. There was one other person already in the bay. I only waited about 6 minutes or so before they pulled out and I was asked to pull in. About 5 to 6 minutes later, I was told all was well and the gentleman took my payment. He informed me the results were alreadt sent to the state and I could renew my registration immediately. Friendly and easy location to get your emission test. I'll be back next year! read more

Star Emissions, were so fast I couldn't believe it as my registration tags were due and I was also heading to work , they had me in and out in under 15-20 mins tops and that was only because there was another car already in the queue, they had me best part is that by using a Star Emissions service the info goes directly to the DMV and there was a kiosk across the street , bam got my tags in under 30 mins amazing! Can't say enough good things. I live very close by and had to get emissions testing for the first time. I came here and was in and out within 10 minutes. Service was fast and very friendly. Needed to get an emissions test and star emissions took care of it so quickly. When I arrived, they were ready for me immediately. Took less than 10 minutes and cost only $25. So friendly and helpful, the employee gave me advice on renewing my registration at Kroger and kept up a nice conversation the entire time. Welp, I suppose it's time to get around to registering my car here in Georgia. So the other day I took the first step and went to All Vehicles Welcome on the Westside, paid my $25 to the Clean Air Campaign, and was on my way. While the place may look a little skeezy from the outside, the guy was super duper friendly and got me in and out pretty quickly. He was chatty in a non-annoying way and answered my questions about going to the DMV, which I appreciated. When you've got to make your yearly visit, this is a good spot to stop in. read more

I just moved to Atlanta from out of state so I had to get a smog check for the first time and didn't really know where to go. I found these guys in a google search and I'm so glad I chose them. I don't think I've ever met a group of guys more honest and friendly. I accidentally left my Ray Bans here and realized it just about the time they were closing. I called and they stayed open until I got there to pick them up. Phenomenal Service! I just had my battery replaced in my 2004 Honda Accord, so it failed the emission. The inspector David gave me a checklist with specific instructions on how to go through the drive cycle within a half an hour. After 25 mins of following the instructions, my car passed! Saved me 2 weeks worth of driving! David is incredible! He went above and beyond my expectations. I highly recommend! read more

Extremely rude and very unprofessional and unorganized. Walk up and stand there and this man looks me dead in the eye doesn't offer any help, had to ask if he even works there.. ask if I need an appointment or when can I get in. His response literally was 'I don't know what's going on or whose next. Offers nothing else beyond that. Um ok. Give this guy a chance to get to a stopping point to walk out to the cars waiting figure out his order, he then gives me direction where to wait and which two cars are in front of me. Cool. After waiting he gets to the car in front of me and in the process up pulling into the newly free space to be ready to be grabbed next-he comes out and and this grown man yells at me, a younger woman, to get out of the way, that I won't get out the way and now a car that literally just pulled up in now in front of me. Then yells at me that he doesn't know what's going on when I correct him he JUST told me the order and I was supposed to me next. I don't work here sir, you do. I left and wasted time leaving work for this. Would for the first time ever in my life give this man and this place negative stars. DO NOT COME HERE. read more

This was a great experience. I actually went back in November, but I've been meaning to come and write a review. The guy (forget his name, but he told me) was very friendly, and made conversation while he did the testing. It was my first emissions test, so it was helpful when he told me what was going on. I'm very particular about who gets to work on my car. David, accurately referred to by one of the other reviewers as "the super nice dude who runs this place," had my confidence in a matter of seconds. He knows exactly what he's doing and completed the inspection in not much more than five or six minutes. The traffic on and around Chattahoochee Avenue is usually pretty heavy, but All Vehicles is well worth the trip. You can trust your car to these people. read more
