Yelp led me to this Dekra location for my latest emissions inspection. The reviews are polarized -- a bunch of five-star reviews and a few one and two-star reviews. My three-star rating is because I waited almost 1.5 hours to get my emissions checked here. That's by far the longest I've waited at any emissions place over the last ~25 years. I came here because the place I'd been going to in recent years was temporarily closed. I pulled up to the lot at 2:18pm on an ordinary Thursday. The time printed on my report was 3:39pm. When I pulled up, there were nine cars ahead of me. The cars were packed in and the tail end of my car (just a little bit) was sticking out onto Collier Rd. It wasn't clear where else go to because the Goodwill next door doesn't want Dekra customers in their lot. The guy in the SUV ahead of me got tired of waiting and left. A woman in an SUV behind me looked agitated and annoyed with the wait. If you come here, be prepared to wait. Hopefully, you'll get lucky like some of the other Yelpers here. This is a one-man shop. I was seen by the manager "Mr. Ben" Benjamin Floyd, who's mentioned in many of the reviews. I believe it's just him and one other inspector who works at this location. Mr. Ben is a personality. He's a talker and we hit it off immediately, joking around and shooting the breeze. I could tell he did the same with others ahead of me, because some of their faces lit up, as well as with others who left reviews (hence all the five-star ratings). He runs a tight ship and isn't afraid to put people in their place if they give him a hard time. He is trying to get cars through as fast as he can, but this location is very busy. This is a tiny place. I saw Mr. Ben had a deal where he'll do your emissions test ($25) and install two Rain-X wiper blades for $65. On-site is a porta-john and a quick hand carwash. I saw two small ladies working the carwash on the other side of the emissions testing structure. It was a great experience! I called ahead of time to see if I needed an appointment, no appointment is needed. I liked that they picked up the phone right away and answered my questions. SUPER EASY AND QUICK! Great location (corner of Defoors Ferry and Collier, same parking lot as Goodwill donation center) and really simple to just pull in. No need to get out of the car. Ridiculously fast service! Absolutely stress-free. Very friend and professional. Can also get windshield wipers replaced at pretty much market price. This place is quick and affordable if you're trying to get an $25 emissions but don't expect good customer service or any service at all. The guy said maybe 2 words to me in the awkward 10 min transaction because he was busy on a personal phone call the entire time. No need to go anywhere else, now that I found this place. I went Feb 24th around 10:30am and was in and out in about 10 minutes, great service. It's an open area at the corner of DefFoor's and Collier. Because it's open, there are no hassles about parking, waiting rooms, or smelly oil change facilities (no offense.) I was expecting to be inconvenienced when I set out to get my emissions tested, because hey--everything about car registration is an inconvenience, right? Not this part. So easy, just sit in your car. Mr. Omar Franklin was friendly and efficient. He politely asked about the condition of my wiper blades and replaced those for me as well while I was there. If this wasn't the easiest emissions inspection I've ever had completed! 10 mins in and out once my car pulled in. A line was starting behind me, but as I was in and out I can only imagine it moving swiftly. Cash or card accepted. I'm sure this isn't a unilateral review, but for one service person there the day I went to have my emissions checked, two stars is p generous. Dude was greying and probably about 5'9", kinda smelled like beer, told me no emissions place was going to test my car until I procured the piece of paper from my previously failed emissions test (in the trash as of about two weeks ago). If he'd just plugged into my car and read it, he'd see that I'm passing after having my evap system repaired. Before this, he said I had six minutes to get him the official color of my car, curtly. He checked up on me after a bit (this information is weirdly hard to get ahold of) and when I told him I still hadn't found the official brand color way, he was like "you've got four minutes and thirty seconds." Turns out this was for his personal amusement, which he disclosed AFTER I managed to find the exact color of my car. I think he was having fun trying to thin out the crowd toward the very end of his workday. Turned me away, no service. read more
