Nothing says Happy Birthday like receiving your annual Emissions Inspection renewal notification from Fulton County. This year, in the spirit of proactivity, I decided to have Valeska the Volkswagen inspected several weeks before the official deadline. Of course, this doesn't mean that I'll actually be sending the check before the deadline, but I still feel that having the necessary components compiled this early is a commendable feat. I live within walking distance of All Seasons Emission Inspection and have long been convinced that it was a front for some sort of illicit trafficking. As such, I was more than thrilled to finally have a justifiable reason to actually enter the front door of the place to see what atrocities existed inside. After pulling into the parking lot on a Sunday afternoon, a gentleman quickly came out and directed me to drive under an overhang to the right of the building. You can stay in your car throughout the process; however, sitting in a black vehicle with black leather upholstery in 95 degree weather is not one of my greatest past times; accordingly, I got out and let him work his magic on Valeska. Fortunately, they do have two plastic chairs under the overhang that you can sit in; the plethora of eccentric street urchins and mister sister hookers that frequent the area are wildly entertaining and seemingly harmless. After about 5 minutes, Valeska and I were notified of our passing grade. However, I was not about to leave without a firsthand investigation of the inner sanctums of this place. Accordingly, I followed the attendant inside after handing him my debit card (total cost = $25). Upon entry, I was surprised to see that there really wasn't much to be had inside, both literally and figuratively. The 10 x 10 hut had a file cabinet, a makeshift sales counter, and a dilapidated futon-esque fixture along the wall, the latter of which had clearly had it's fair share of recent occupants. I must admit that I was a little disappointed, but the aforementioned sidewalk sideshow was more than enough to justify this excursion. Overall, I was quite pleased with my experience at All Seasons Emission. The attendant was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable about the the necessary procedures. As such, I'll likely return next time around and recommend that you do the same. Note: The business name noted in the phone book and on my receipt for this location is "All Seasons Emissions"; however, it's important to note that this name does not appear anywhere on the exterior of the place. Instead, the signs read "Fast Emission Inspection".

I'm stuck in between 2 cars...waiting forever the technician!!!!!!

I called several times when nobody answered the phone. If you are open and a business then why can't anyone answer the phone.

Don't drive too fast, you'll miss the driveway to a quick and easy emissions process. Didn't have to leave my vehicle. See you next year!

Yelp led me to this Dekra location for my latest emissions inspection. The reviews are polarized --…read morea bunch of five-star reviews and a few one and two-star reviews. My three-star rating is because I waited almost 1.5 hours to get my emissions checked here. That's by far the longest I've waited at any emissions place over the last ~25 years. I came here because the place I'd been going to in recent years was temporarily closed. I pulled up to the lot at 2:18pm on an ordinary Thursday. The time printed on my report was 3:39pm. When I pulled up, there were nine cars ahead of me. The cars were packed in and the tail end of my car (just a little bit) was sticking out onto Collier Rd. It wasn't clear where else go to because the Goodwill next door doesn't want Dekra customers in their lot. The guy in the SUV ahead of me got tired of waiting and left. A woman in an SUV behind me looked agitated and annoyed with the wait. If you come here, be prepared to wait. Hopefully, you'll get lucky like some of the other Yelpers here. This is a one-man shop. I was seen by the manager "Mr. Ben" Benjamin Floyd, who's mentioned in many of the reviews. I believe it's just him and one other inspector who works at this location. Mr. Ben is a personality. He's a talker and we hit it off immediately, joking around and shooting the breeze. I could tell he did the same with others ahead of me, because some of their faces lit up, as well as with others who left reviews (hence all the five-star ratings). He runs a tight ship and isn't afraid to put people in their place if they give him a hard time. He is trying to get cars through as fast as he can, but this location is very busy. This is a tiny place. I saw Mr. Ben had a deal where he'll do your emissions test ($25) and install two Rain-X wiper blades for $65. On-site is a porta-john and a quick hand carwash. I saw two small ladies working the carwash on the other side of the emissions testing structure. Visit this link for coupons (e.g., $4 off your next emissions test): https://www.dekra.us/en/ga-offers/ Dekra started in Germany in 1925, then known as Deutscher Kraftfahrzeug-Überwachungs-Verein (German Motor Vehicle Inspection Association). The "Deutscher Kraftfahrzeug" is where "DEKRA" comes from. Read their Wiki for some interesting history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dekra I had time since I was waiting in line. At the time of writing this review, Dekra has 20 inspection stations in Georgia, all in metro Atlanta: https://www.dekra.us/en/georgia/georgia-inspection-stations/ Mr. Ben told me wait times are much better if you come first thing in the morning: 8am, Monday-Friday and 9am, Saturday-Sunday. He told me this Dekra location was experiencing an unusually higher demand than normal at the time.

Star Emission - My car passed emissions inspection today at 303,924 miles. No more inspections after this year because it will be 25 years old.

Star Emission

I was looking for a place near my home to get my car's emissions inspected. I found Star Emission…read moreon Yelp, saw its high ratings, and decided to give this place a try. They didn't let me down. I pulled into the garage around 3:40pm on a Tuesday and was out with a passed test result about 10 minutes later, maybe less. The cost was $25, the standard emissions inspection fee in Georgia. I got lucky. When I arrived, there were no other customers. I drove right into the testing bay. They only have one bay so you'll have to wait if there's already a car getting tested. A line quickly built up behind me. By the time I left, there were three cars waiting. This place isn't much to look at, but what emissions testing place is? It's located behind the QuikTrip on Howell Mill Road. Star Emission has been around long before the QT here. The first Yelp review for this place was written by old Yelp Atlanta Community Manager Kathleen M on July 1, 2009. The Howell Mill QT opened in March 2018. There's a small seating area inside the garage, along the wall, if you want to sit and wait. During my visit, there was a table with magazines (People Magazine, IIRC) and a container of peppermint candies. Opposite the seating area was a TV (Judge Judy was on) and a bulletin board with the shop and its workers' certificates from the State of Georgia. The official name of this business is "Star Emission Service LLC" and the station ID number is GA102115. Certified Emission Inspector Patrick tested my car. He was friendly and polite. Great customer service. We found out that we're both from North Carolina. I had actually driven directly from Chapel Hill to Star Emission - about a six-hour drive - which is how the conversation got started. Patrick taught me something new. He told me I could go across the street to Kroger to renew my car's registration and get a new tag sticker. All I needed was my driver's license and a credit/debit card. There's an official Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) Georgia Tag Kiosk inside Kroger, next to the pharmacy. How long have these MVD kiosks been around? In previous years, I'd renew online. And before then, I'd renew via snail mail. The Georgia Tag Kiosk was fast and convenient. Digression: I've lived in this part of Atlanta since 2000, but my first visit to Star Emission wasn't until this year, 2022. The reason is due in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic. I used to get my emissions checked near where I worked (Marietta, Cobb County). Working-from-home had me looking for a closer spot and that's how I came to Star Emission. Thank you, Patrick and Star Emission.

I always go here and I love that it's so close to the Kroger, and it's rarely busy, so you can just head over there and get your sticker. It's awesome. The guy is friendly and chill and it's $25.
