Dear Star, You are a total flippin super star! I am digging this place! They are fantastic here! Great service, good prices, and they were able to do next day service at a reasonable price. A co-worker of mine recommended this place and I'm so glad she did! I had totally forgotten to get my boyfriend and I's clothes dry-cleaned for a fancy wedding we were going to in new jersey (suit, couple of dress shirt, and a silk dress). I recently moved into town and have been keeping my eyes peeled for a dry cleaner. It so happen that Stars Dry Cleaner was right across the street from where I work at Salem Hospital. My husband is super neurotic about having certain work clothes dry cleaned so I gave it a try. Let me tell you.... I'm super impressed! I've had my fair share of dry cleaning experiences! The young lady at the counter was super friendly and very professional. The prices were reasonable and she was able to accommodate my needs in a very timely manner. read more

0 Stars is not an option. We have been going to Star Dry Cleaners for 10+ years and the service and work and service there continues to be worse and worse. We recently had an expensive comforter shank by them for which they initially denied they shrank. After much pressure Star then refused to reimburse us for the full price of the comforter with out a receipt. We do not have because it was a present, and who brings things to the dry cleaner thinking they need a receipt? The owner actually hung the phone up on me after I said how upset I was and that their response was not okay. This is not the first time Star has ruined clothes, but we've been going there for so long we'd be okay with a mistake or two. Now, it is clear that they not only do not know how to dry clean with out shrinking your clothing, but they also are unwilling to accept professional responsibility for their problematic work. It's extremely frustrating when businesses refuse to maintain professional standards and the service from employees is severely disrespectful. If you ruined something, pay for it. It almost seems like Star's business model is about ruining dry cleaning and having no expectation that their customers are going to stand up for themselves. DO NOT GO TO STAR DRY CLEANERS UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR CLOTHING RUINED AND ARE OKAY WITH DISRESPECTFUL SERVICE. Caveat emptor, there is a new owner. I hadn't been to Star in a while. Lila has retired and gone to Florida. They had been very good. I prefer a place which does their dress shirt cleaning in-house. They didn't -- they outsourced, but they were conscientious. I came in with six garments and the punch card from the old regime (10 punches gets you savings on a dry cleaning order). The card states that you get one punch on the card for EVERY two garments you bring in. I brought in six garments and the attendant insisted I get one punch, that the card MEANS one punch with two or MORE garments. This, in spite of the card also saying that a maximum of 2 punches per visit. With his interpretation, I would get one punch on the card. With the way it had been interpreted, I get three. We eventually settled on two. He also didn't know anything about their doing free clothes storage, whereas the site (which is still up as the previous owner had it) states that if you have them dry clean your clothes, they will store them for FREE. I left them the six garments, but I will take them home. Growing pains? I don't know, but I'd say that the emphasis on service is probably not the same, given this interaction. read more

Lila does a great job on dry cleaning! This is a locally owned cleaner where they do all the dry cleaning there and do not send it out. I have been using Star Dry Cleaners for years and they have never lost my clothes and have always done a fantastic job. She has a a frequent buyer dry cleaning card and you can earn free cleaning. She takes the time to review the garment and does minor alterations as well. Great Place. Reasonable prices. Lovely owner and fantastic customer service. read more

Dropped a pair of pants to be hemmed. Picked them up, got them home, and realized they were still the same length. When I brought them back, she couldn't tell me what happened, but assured they would be done correctly. I come back a week later, pick up my pants and got in an argument with another woman because she wanted me to pay her again. After checking the computer and calling the manager, she assured me everything was all set and I bring my pants home... where I realize they are now longer than they were when I brought them in. They had taken down the store "finishing" hem that all dress pants have and just ironed them. The most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. I go back a third time, and after speaking to the manager on the phone, who wants "one more chance" I was given my $28 back. That is the one plus to this story. read more

My neighbor recommended this place and is always singing their praises! So I finally decided to give them a try...event though I have dry cleaners closer to my house. I figure if my neighbor continues to drive there then they must be doing something right. After my 3rd experience, I can now say with confidence that It was the best decision I ever made. The owner is very knowledgeable about the industry and the business, her staff is personable and really cares about the customer and their belongings. They deliver on time service, is very professional yet friendly, and is always open to hearing my stories....I can tell that building relationships with customers is a priority here and that is the key to great customer service. After 3 visits the owner knew my name and the both her and 2 of her staff addressed me by name! They will see me again for sure! read more

Horrible customer service. I dropped off two shirts to be cleaned, when I went to pick them up and got home I noticed they were still dirty. I had to drive all the way back there drop him off AGAIN....and then pick them up 4 days later and they were miraculously cleaned. The woman would not give me a refund for all my hassle and trouble AND driving I had to do. You lost a good customer star dry cleaners . read more

Very pricey, and we had a week turnover due to the fact that the owner was closing down shop for her daughter's wedding. I will probably look around for more dry cleaners in the area, but not a fan of the high price (2 sundresses and a work pant $28.00). read more

I've been coming to this dry cleaners for 6 months now and it's been a disappointment. Stains left on pants that had to be rewashed, shirts that were badly ironed and not following my preference instruction. The latest was that their prices went up without notice and I was over changed because the preference order was misread. I chose to to me here because of their low prices (I guess you get what you pay for) but they are no longer the lowest. The people are very nice though and they are trying to correct things. Terrible job. First, I tried to use a coupon which was declined because the clerk had to write separate slips because the items I wanted dry cleaned were going to different offsite locations. I thought all cleaning was done on site? I left a comforter for dry cleaning and was told it would be ready in five days. It was not. This wouldn't have been too bad, but, when I picked it up, it looked as though it had been tossed in someone's washing machine, and not dry cleaned. The filling was shifted around and very lumpy, and a very minor stain was still present. Also, I found it to be very expensive compared to other local shops. read more

Like the other reviewer, I wish I could give this business a "0". In the past I have only written positive reviews. I am writing this review by my bad experience. I'll try to be as brief as possible. If I put myself in your shoes, as you read this, I have to admit that this cleaner is probably O.K. for dark colored clothes. Most of my wardrobe is black, gray, brown. I have been a customer for many years and this was my first problem. Unknowingly, I brought them my favorite summer work blazer. It was bright white. It wasn't even dirty. I was being proactive and having it cleaned to keep it in good shape. When I went to pick it up it had black stains on it and it was dingy. It was as if it had been cleaned with black garments in which the dyes ran. There weren't any stains of any kind, not even discoloration around the collar when I brought it in. The jacket's brightness was gone. They had me pay for the cleaning before they tried to fix it. Since then I have been back 8 times. I finally took the garment home. The owner (new owner - Quyen) refused to recognize that they damaged the garment. Shirts I own that were noticeably a dingier white before I brought in the jacket are now noticeably a brighter white than the jacket. Hmm. I will never return and I recommend that you cautiously decide which items you are willing to risk having them clean. Can anyone recommend a quality dry cleaner in the area? read more

I would give this dry cleaner 0 stars, if possible. We recently moved to Salem and used this dry cleaner as it has good reviews on yelp. Upon dropping off our clothes, we were told that they couldn't be done for over a week, despite the fact that I said we needed them in a rush. When we went to pick our clothes up, we went as soon as the store opened, and waiting for 15 minutes before leaving because no one showed up to open the store. We called, and they said they would be open the following day, and that our clothes were ready for pick up. When we went to pick up our clothes the following morning, they told us that they couldn't find any of our clothes. I would not recommend using this dry cleaner, and I will find a new dry cleaner in the future. read more

I moved to Salem 5 years and brought my clothes there for dry cleaning and to be hemmed with no problems. Now I haven't gone in a while until a few weeks ago. I brought two pants to get hemmed. I was told that in 4 business days they be done. I walk in on day 4 and my pants were not ready. They never thought in calling me. They said it would be ready the following day. The next day I pick up my pants and when I finally put them on at home I noticed that my black pants with all around black stitching was hemmed with light grey thread. Took the pants back on a Friday and then told it would be ready for Tuesday at 2pm. Tuesday at 12 noon got a call that they weren't ready because her seamstress ran out of black thread and will finish on wedneday and have my pants ready by Thursday. I finally picked up the black pants and not only does it look like a 5 year old hemmed it but by them removing the grey threat to add on the black thread they cut part of my pants leaving a noticeable little hole where they stiched around it. This place was so onpoint a few years back with the original owners, but now that they have a new owner/manager there..things have just gotten worse and worse. I recommended this place to a few friends a couple of months ago before experiencing this. I'm contacting each and everyone of them to read my most recent experience. Really awful experience. A few months ago I brought I a dress, which was subsequently stained with a few cranberry juice drops. 2 months later, I have a dress more badly stained then when i brought it in and no resolution. For a month, I was given a run around by this business, no phone calls, and when I called it was always give us a few more days, the juice stain is hard to remove, and no phone calls back. So after 5 weeks I asked what was going on. They told me that they followed the manufacturers dry cleaning instructions and the colors ran from the top to the rest of the dress and it was ruined (this had nothing to do with the original stains). For the last three plus weeks I've been chasing them down, as they tried to contact the manufacturer or amazon,where in originally bought it. Obviously neither were receptive, as the dry cleaner ruined the dress and I purchased it over 3 months ago. I was then was told, rudely, after 8 weeks, that i need to contact amazon,etc...What for was never explained to me. So out of frustrated i picked up my $168 "investment" dress yesterday after being spoken to rudely and spending eight weeks of my life dealing with this situation,chasing them down the whole time. No resolution, no customer service and no offer to replace or refund the item. I would never ever go back there...it's one thing to ruin a garment, another to lie about it for weeks on end and give customers the run around. I'm out $168, a lot of time and irritation. read more
