Unfortunately this story takes a small wall of text to tell. TL;DR Ameristar lied about selling me a certified diamond, several times, before finally admitting the diamond was not certified. After having some serious talks with my girlfriend we decided we were ready to get married. I know, not the most romantic story, and it continues that way... I didn't want to put her or myself into the awkward position of a surprise ring that she feels obligated to love even if it wasn't exactly what she was looking for. I wanted to buy her a ring that she absolutely loved, so we started going ring shopping together with the agreement that she would pick out a ring and I would buy it and propose at some time in the future in an attempt to preserve some romance. After many weekends of searching we ended up at Ameri-Star where we found a nice ring that my girlfriend loved. We made sure it was certified and unaltered, then we decided that would be the ring and made sure to have them save the ring for me to purchase later. A week or so later I stopped back by with my mother to purchase the ring. My mom of course wanted to see what it looked like because she was very excited about me getting married. I showed her the ring to make sure she approved and my mom made sure it was a certified diamond, as she had told me several times to ask. The owner of Ameri-Star told us it was indeed a certified diamond and after purchase the certificate would be mailed to us. I purchased the ring for $3,000 and provided her with my address so they could mail the certificate. Fast forward another week or so and I pop the question, receiving the yes. Fast forward another few weeks and we still have not received the certificate. No big deal, she didn't specifically say how long it would take for us to get the certificate, so we call her just to make sure it was on it's way. We are told that the certificate takes a little while sometimes, but we will receive it soon. No big deal until it's been another few weeks and we call again, only to learn this time that the diamond was NOT certified. The owner was very apologetic, after having willfully and knowingly lied several times, which only made it worse. She offered to pay to have the ring appraised by a lady she often works with. Of course I was not entirely trusting and I had the ring appraised by a different certified appraiser and also by the one she wanted me to use. Both appraisals were for hundreds of dollars less than what I paid, I believe one was $2,200 and one was around $2,700 but that's from memory (which as least made me feel better that she didn't work out a deal with her appraiser to lie to me). Luckily both appraisals also stated it was an unaltered diamond, which is what we were really worried about. I don't care about her selling me a diamond that isn't certified. I don't care about her selling me a ring for several hundred dollars more than it appraised for. I care that she lied to me about the diamond being certified when I first came to the store. Then she lied about it being certified when I came back to purchase the ring. Then she lied about it being certified when I called to see how long it would take to get the certificate. Maybe you can get some good jewelry from this store, I mean, my fiancee absolutely lover her ring... But, the owner WILL lie to you about what you're buying. Make sure you see every certification and possibly ask to have your item independently appraised prior to purchase. Or save yourself the headache and shop somewhere else. Getting engaged isn't supposed to be a story that makes your blood boil when you tell it. read more

My wife recently lost the .75ct marquis out of her wedding ring somewhere at the Harley shop. If that wasn't bad enough, her finger seemed to have "grown" over the past 16 years and no matter what she tried, the ring would not come off. So I broke out the wire cutters and proceeded to snip the band and spread it apart to get it off. It worked great but really left the ring looking like nothing but a piece of scrap gold. Later that week we decided to stop by Star Diamonds, on the way home from work, and see what it would take to replace the diamond and repair my destructive act. Upon entering the store we were met by Carl who showed us all of the marquis stones that he had available. Unfortunately, none of them seemed to compare to the one she lost. Carl completely understood what we were looking for and within three days had ordered 3 additional stones for us to check out, with no obligation from us. All of the stones were amazing. We decided on the perfect replacement and got a price from Carl to buy the stone, replace the crown with something stronger, replace one of the smaller stones in the set that had been lost previously and fix my mess. We were extremely happy when his price for the entire job was better than the price we had been quoted for a lesser quality stone, from one of the chain jewelers, that didn't include the repair costs. I also looked up the price of a comparable quality and size diamond on the internet and could not find anything close to the deal that Carl was making us. We made the deal with Carl, and one week later he called for us to come pick it up. When he showed us the ring we were absolutely amazed at the beautiful job that was done. There is no way that ring looked that good when it was brand new. I would highly recommend you give Carl the opportunity to see what he can do for you. Amazing service! My husband wanted to get me a big beautiful ring for our 30th Anniversary and we had shopped all around the valley when some friends suggested Star Diamonds! We went and visited with Carl and explained to him what we wanted and we decided to design a ring together! He brought several diamonds in from NYC for us to choose from then he went to work on molds to help us design what we wanted! He was very patient with us as we went back 3 times tweaking the mold to exactly what we wanted. When he presented the competed ring to us a week later I was literally in tears! Went to Star Diamonds on a Monday and had my daughters pearl necklace completed and beautifully set for her 13th birthday on Friday. This pearl was no ordinary one, it was her very own from an oyster she opened from a vacation we took to Hawaii when she was 9 years old. I told my daughter when she was old enough to take care of that pearl I would give it to her. Carl made my daughters special day happen on such short notice. Took in a wedding ring that had a run in with the garbage disposal.
