I've been here twice for cleanings and repair for either my wedding ring or anniversary ring, and I'm very impressed by the staff and their work. My wedding ring, which was a custom ring, lost one of the diamonds (fortunately I found it), and it turned out the tips needed to be repaired. I assume that's why it didn't hold that diamond in place. Not only did they do a fantastic job on the repair, but cleaned it until it shined like it did decades ago! At the time, they told me that my other ring would eventually need the tips done, too, as they wear over time. I put it off over a year, but last year, decided to get it done, and I'm glad I did. Now, my rings are both in good shape, and I don't have to worry about losing a diamond again! The staff was very friendly, and answered all of my questions. Shameful customer service! When I arrived, I was greeted by an employee who asked if she could help me (nice). I told her I just wanted a few pieces of jewelry cleaned and respectfully stated that I remembered there was a limit to how many pieces they would do, so I asked if I could pay for the others. She said the employees in that area could answer that question and directed me to stand there to await further assistance. I stood there for 10 to 15 minutes despite only a handful of customers in the store. Finally, I was acknowledged with, "I'll be with you in a minute." Once I was called over, I asked again about the limit for jewelry cleaning because I wanted to choose only the pieces that I most wanted professionally cleaned, based on the cost. But this employee proceeded to lay out and inventory all of my items. She suggested I purchase an application of a product called rhodium for my three-piece white gold custom Burmese ruby ring. I declined because I am not familiar with it. She then asked another employee, "Aldon," about the limit of items for cleaning. Aldon told her he only allows 3 to 5 pieces. I reminded Aldon that he was the one who helped me before, and he was also the one who told me there was a limit to how many pieces they would clean, but the last time, he had allowed a lot more than just 3 to 5 pieces. Now, my three-piece ring alone would have been about all they would do, and then he added that I should purchase the rhodium for the ring. He said he would charge me $22 to clean each extra item! (The total would have been about $300 - TO CLEAN JEWELRY!) I haven't been in to request professional jewelry cleaning for over a year. (Now I know why)... So, here's what Aldon doesn't get... It may not be today that I want to buy that $1200 necklace, or that $1500 bracelet, or design a custom piece with the sapphire and extra diamonds I have, but if you treat me well, you'll have my business. Taking good care of customers keeps them coming back, and it is quite likely that while you are courteously cleaning some of my jewelry, I'll be looking around the store and see something I want to purchase. But not today. Today, I picked everything up and left. Previously, my husband had lost his wedding band, and we bought a new one from Lee Read. On that occasion, we were treated like family. But not today. Today, thanks to Aldon - Lee Read Diamonds will NEVER get my business again! My advice: take your business elsewhere too! read more

I needed to get my old ring repaired and the quote they gave me was about $500 above what another jeweler quoted me. I was quoted $740 at Lee Read and then ended up paying $250 at another place. I am glad I didn't go with Lee Reid and I followed my gut to get another opinion! The guy I spoke to at Lee Read was nice, but I had a feeling he knew I didn't know a lot about the service. Rebecca thank you!! I went into Lee Read Diamonds to have my heirloom ring checked after I was told by Fred Meyer Jewelers that my stone was loose and in immediate need of being fixed. I asked FMJ how much it would be and how much time it would take to do it. They said it would be $250 minimum and 4-5 weeks since they needed to send it out of state to be done. I told the associate I needed time to think about this since that was a large amount of money. She reluctantly handed it back. Today I went into LRD and enter Rebecca the lifesaver!! I explained to her what I was told from the other place. She checked my ring and said my stone wasn't loose at all! I was confused and she moved my ring over onto something so I could see her check the stone and guess what? It was NOT loose!! Fred Meyer not only lied to me but wanted to charge an insane amount of money to "Fix" it. I asked Rebecca what needed done and she said in a few years the prongs may need done. A few years! Not immediately. Out of curiosity I asked how much money and time it would take... it was less than HALF of what Fred Meyer wanted to charge me! And the amount of time? Two weeks at most because your jewelry stays in house and never leaves the store! I opted to have my prongs handed at that moment. I'm grateful for Lee Read and Rebecca!! This was the first and only place we needed to go. I was able to have fun and build my ring to the design and style that I had in mind. All of the employees were incredibly helpful with helping us find the right design. They have a great program of cleaning your ring every 6 months and are always available for any questions. I usually never leave a one star review, but that is the only thing that can represent my recent experience with them. I recently purchased a ring for my now Fiance' from a nice lady on Craigslist. She had originally purchased this ring at Lee Reads and had an appraisal done for the ring there. When we all showed up at Lee Reads to merely get the appraisal verified, the owner was extremely unhappy and uncooperative. They were frustrated that we were performing a 3rd party sale, and would not simply verify that they had performed the appraisal. Furthermore, the owner totally lied to us that the setting on the ring needed to be redone as she explained it was worn down. We then took it to 2 different jewelers who confirmed that the owner lied and were just angry about our sale and wanting to pull in some money for themselves. 1 star reviews are for cheats and liars. We recently had 2 diamond rings appraised at Lee Read Jewelers (value $13,500). One was removed from the setting to obtain a more accurate appraisal. It was returned to us in a little plastic bag, which was inside their logo'd paper bag. On April 30th, I stopped by to see if they had a display box that we could put the loose diamond in for an estate auction. They brought a small black acrylic box from the safe, saying it was one of their old display boxes. It was definitely used, and I was not able to photograph that the top acrylic was scuffed. While I was telling them that was exactly what I was looking for - a lady said that would be $10.60. I about choked. This looked like a dollar store box. I wish I would have had time to go elsewhere, but I was on a tight schedule to deliver the diamond for the auction. I thought it was tacky for them to return the diamond in a plastic bag in the first place, but wanting $10 (plus tax) for this used box was just greed and not good business. I certainly didn't expect it for free, but I didn't expect to be taken advantage of like that. We have had rings re-sized at Lee Reed's in the past, and have considered making future jewelry purchases from them (supporting local business), but not anymore. 15 years ago my husband bought our engagement then wedding rings from Lee Read. They have always been great to work with. We cherish our rings. Last week, we took mine in for some repair work and appraisal. Chanelle helped us and was marvelous! She even made sure we got the veterans discount, which was a large savings. I regret the day my husband bought my ring from Lee Reed. They boast a customer service policy to fix or replace missing stones from jewelry purchased from their stores. You MUST bring your jewelry in every six months to have it checked (which I do, religiously). BUT you must keep track of documents to prove your diligence. Really, in this day of technology?? If you do not have your documents, they will provide you with a card and tell you to bring your paperwork next time(they will graciously update it for you). If you don't, they charge you for a service they boast is free to loyal customers. What a joke!! We used Lee Reade a number of times over 6 years They were always very expensive but we knew no better. I would say twice my wife's rings were not sized correctly...their fault? I suppose but on my last visit I had a ring sized and was quoted $60 or so I thought..........the repairman spoke very broken English and actually had said $160! Even though I complained it was not appropriate to have a person who spoke very poor English..the owner refused still to compromise on the repair quote....so we go elsewhere where perhaps they are more business friendly.....nice store, nice high repair costs and arrogant owner. I went into this store saturday july 12th about 2 hours before closing to buy a gift for my nieces birthday. I walked into the store and the 2 sales people were helping others so I started to look around while they were busy. After about 10 minutes of looking around without so much as a hello an older couple walked in and they were immediatly greeted with a hello and they would be right with them. I was standing 5 feet from those people and completely ignored. I spent another 10 minutes looking around thinking someone would at least ask if I had any questions but not a single person said a word to me. I left and went to another jewler where I was treated well. I guess unless you are over 60 this jewler doent want anything to do with you. The only reason I gave 1 star is because the facility was nice but that was the only good thing good about this jewler. I wouldnt recommend shopping here unless you like being ignored. read more

About three years ago, I went into Lee Read in Meridian to look at their tank. I own a saltwater aquarium and many of friends in the boise area continued to tell me that I needed to go see their aquarium. I went there one day at around 2 P.M. and when I walked in I was on the phone with a friend. I went straight to the tank to look. After about 5 minutes, the owner of Lee Read came out and introduced himself as the owner and asked me if I was going to buy something. I said, "perhaps...but I really wanted to see your tank." He got really upset with me and said, "Well this IS a jewelry store and the tank is here for our CUSTOMERS enjoyment." He told me that it was extremely rude of me to go into the store and look at the tank and also said that i could not take any pictures of the tank. He said he thought I was from a tank cleaning company and that i would the pictures to show people that I clean his tank, and he made it very clear that he maintains his own tank. CONGRATULATIONS! I decided to leave and he walked me out of his store and I go into my car. I drove away in my brand new BMW M3 Convertible and looked at his face as I drove by...I could tell he felt bad for being so rude to me. Every time I have driven past the store I look up at the sign that invite people to go see the aquarium. But I'm warning you, they don't want ppl to go in without buying something. From the start they were pretty shady, their prices are significantly higher than you can find for better quality diamonds elsewhere. I try to support local businesses but refuse to be blatantly ripped off. Never the less I purchased a setting from them in an effort to somewhat support local businesses and I got a higher quality certified diamond elsewhere. I returned to look at wedding bands, again their prices were at least double. So I simply made the purchase else where. I returned to see them about soldering them together (the setting I purchased from them and the band I found at a much better price elsewhere). It's then they will inform you that the will only work on items from their store. Meaning if you decide to buy the same band elsewhere they won't solder it for you. Furthermore if you have another professional jeweler solder it the "Lee Read Diamond Warranty" will be void and they will no longer honor it. So if you want to pay excessively for buying local and have a company that wants to lock out competitive pricing then Lee Read has your name written all over it. read more
