This review is long overdue. I've been bringing my 3 Mercedes cars to Joe for over the past 10 years. Joe is the best--honest and upfront about pricing over the phone. He explains what needs to be done now and what can wait. He doesn't lie or steal. I believe many of the Karens, both men and women, who are leaving negative reviews feel entitled and probably had a bad day when they visited, but he certainly doesn't deserve a one-star rating. One time, I had a new Mercedes still under warranty, which I didn't realize because I hadn't had the car for a while. Joe called his friend at the dealership and found out I was covered for an issue I had, even though my car was about six years old--I didn't know. He advised me to visit the dealership to get it fixed for free. That's what I call an honest, trustworthy person. He could have made money off me, but chose not to. The owner called and offered to fix the issue, offered to drive the car to make sure it was working, and as a result I have updated this review as the vehicle is fixed and not showing any codes for EVAP at the moment. I definitely think there's a language barrier with some of the mechanics as they come off rude, but the owner Joe is reasonable and cares about protecting his business and customer's cars. It can certainly come off as a difference in opinion at times. However, the owner did explain that an EVAP leak is hard to troubleshoot because it could be the front or back, or something else. After he explained it, it made sense why the EVAP leak codes came back on. I've driven it about 50 miles so far and no codes are coming back on, let's see after another 150 miles. Thank you Joe for fixing this issue with a reasonable price. He also provided told his employees to take me home and also pick me up so I don't waste money on uber rides. read more

Star Auto Services did a lot of repairs yesterday which is half the cost of All of the other repair shops in town. Sometimes it is good to compare costs to avoid being over charged by greedy owners. I have a 2003 C230 Kompressor with 168K city mileage and I was fortunate it never had any shop visits other than the smog shop. I have been doing all possible DIYs on my car until the coolant starts mixing up with oil lately. I am so stressed out looking for an honest to goodness MB experts (someone that is not going to rip me off) that of all 5 MB shops I have consulted only Star Auto Service got my thrust. As soon as I brought my car at closing time the very next day my C230 were already up and halfway through with all the repair works. I felt bad not asking the name of the mechanic who is working with my car but he is very nice and very comfortable to talk with. Kiet and Joe are the ones running the shop and they sure are the MB experts you would like to asks first. Kiet is an expert with a few words but well informed of your MB issues and problems Joe as well does the same but more MBs external and internal logistics. As far as pricing are concerned, they are very straightforward and my instinct tells me that they will not rip me off. Kudos with all other mechanic experts working in their shop. Joe is awesome. My wife first visited this place when her check engine light came on. Joe ran diagnostics and couldn't get the problem to happen again, so instead of creating a problem and a charge, he just sent her on her way. He said, if that happens again come back, but there's no problem that our equipment can detect. He then changes a blinker lightbulb for free and sent her on her way. Today, I visited specifically to repair my car tire's A-Premium 2 x Front Lower Ball Joint, costing $27.99 on Amazon. I showed them the picture of part and a video clip explaining the issue and solution. Unfortunately, they took advantage of our long-term relationship, insisting on changing brakes and other components, totaling around $800. Despite my request to focus on the Ball Joint, they removed all of the parts they insisted on after a lengthy wait from morning until 6 PM. They changed the rotor and the brake pads which was unnecessary, I told them that I had changed them six months ago. This not only exhausted my time but also led to an unfair and disappointing experience, ending with an unexpected $800 payment. If they had listened to my initial request, my total would have been approximately $350 (250 for the repair and $100 for oil change). I don't like to pay for their mistake as a business. I came here for my Honda ac because it wasn't blowing cold no more. He hooked up my car and they told me the ac compressor was broken.If I wanted it fixed it would cost me 650$. I LEFT!. I went to work next Day in Fremont ca and have another mechanic near by their name is. KTauto repair. I told him I went to a near by mechanic and and they told me my compressor was broken. The mechanic at KT's auto repair told me it may not even be a compressor it just might need some service. So I left my vehicle for couple hours and he called me saying he got it back working. The total charge was 170$. And my ac is blowing super cold. Thanks god i left this mechanic in San Jose. Sometimes it's better to drive lil further for quality service. read more

Update... I ment to do this, a few years ago. This particular oil leak was never fixed. In fact, I found out not too long after that, that the rear main seal does not go out on a 2001 740i. And that the actual leak was coming from my valve covers. Also my present mechanic I told me back then, that there'd be no way mechanic who wasn't a friend or relative would separate your engine from transmission and complete a rear main seal gasket replacement with other cars being worked ahead of you in one day.... For only $500. So, guess who got ripped off for $500 and still has the same oil leak to this day read more

I love this place. I wont trust my Mercedes with anyone else. It's refreshing to see Mercedes technicians coming and going as they drop off parts. You know you're getting genuine Mercedes parts. Hell, the owner even purchases his motor oil from Mercedes. My car is newer so I've only needed maintenance work and each time I swing by on my lunch break and I'm in and out in an hour. The prices are about half of what the Mercedes dealership charges. Save your money and come here! UPDATE (2/19/08): Went in today since my mercedes was making a noise. I was full of anxiety anticipating the verdict, considering the noise seemed to be coming from the engine (yikes!)
