I like poking around Staples. They sell office supplies. This location is in the Fairlawn Plaza,…read moreacross the street from Carlingwood Mall. My most recent visit was for a new computer chair. They have floor models so I wanted to sit in a few to see which was most comfortable. I finally decided on one and advised one of the salespeople which one I wanted to purchase. He took a picture of the tag and said he will check to see if it's in stock. After a while he came back and said they had 3 in stock and so he will retrieve one for me. I saw him climb onto that machine that raises them up so they can access the storage areas near the ceiling. I was pleased to see he strapped himself in (I'm sure their health and safety department is also pleased). I saw him checking several different storage areas. Then I heard him ask another colleague for help. Finally he came back and said there is an error with their inventory system because it doesn't appear that they have any left. He listed some nearby stores that had them, but I wasn't convinced they actually had them and didn't want to make the trip. I'm sure he sensed that, because he offered to order it online for me and get it shipped to my house (free shipping). I can order it myself online at home, but I figured maybe if he did it he'd get some sort of commission, and he already put in so much effort to help me, so I was like ok, sure. He goes to the computer and tries to add the chair to the cart and the system freezes. He tries a few times without success. By that time I was at the store for much longer than I expected or wanted to be. I thanked him for his efforts and said it was ok, I'll just order it at home later. Lol. So 5 stars for the guy who helped me and A for effort for him, but 2 stars for a faulty inventory system and slow/frozen online ordering system. Incidentally, I also really dislike their website, as when you search for things it lists items that are sold out and you can't filter for only available items. I realize their website and systems are not store-specific but rather corporate. However, these issues affect customers' experiences and opinions of the business. I do like Staples in general and would rate them 3 stars overall, but the customer service at this location bumps it up to 4. I also like that there's a washroom at the back of the store. These days I get so much hand sanitizer build up on my hands that it's nice to use some good old fashioned soap and water sometimes. There's lots of free parking in the plaza.

Attempted to return a laptop. Didn't have the receipt which is on me but the staples.ca website…read moreclearly states that if I brought in the original card they could look it up. The manager Ali on shift was so incredibly demeaning and rude. His first Cut me off while talking to me, refused to look up an order and when I called was told that that was store policy and that he should have done it. Went as far as insulting my physical appearance and humiliating me. I guess God forbid I run errands on my one day off in sweatpants and no makeup. And then he practically threw my laptop I was trying to return at me after he dropped it on the counter in disgust. It's one thing to refuse a return it's another to go out of his way to show how little he cares for others property and flicking it back at me. If I started going around the store and started smashing laptops against the counters I would have kicked out but you allow your managers to mishandle bought merchandise. He acted like the laptop was covered in shit. I'm not sure if accepting returns personally affect his freaking bottom line but he treated me like processing it was the world's biggest inconvenience to his day and not his literal job. He literally said to me " I'm not going to do anything for you, you can go call customer support and they can deal with you" and rolled. His. Eyes. At. Me. I understand not accepting returns without a receipt but there was absolutely no reason to be treated the way I was by him he was frustrated and rude from the very first second of our conversation and devolved into personal comments on my appearance. I left absolutely fuming and in disbelief at how I was treated.

They even helped me to install it and tested it for me. I could not have had a better experience. Compared to Best Buy these people and the staff there were incredibly kind and helpful

Barrhaven Staples branch I tried to print 2 pages (not 20)…read moreon the self-service printer in this store. But it didn't work. But it charged me. And I stood in line and asked for help and the female manager printed one on another computer and she helped me. It took 1 minute. I went to print again on the self-service printer but the second document also didn't print on the self-service printer. I stood in line again and asked for help again but the male manager told me that he was too busy to help me. I said I can wait. But I wasn't important enough. But there was no one in line. He just told me that he didn't want to. And he started the process to refund money . And it took a bit more time than print. But I needed documents. I asked another manager, his name is Carlos, he is manager of the store to help me print, I can wait. But he told me no, not until tomorrow (?) because all of staff was busy . But you can check your video cameras - there was no one in line, but he started showing that he was annoyed. And he stopped talking to me. It was rude. I decided I'll buy a printer on other store and never will be bother these important employees and this store.

Needed a phone...none in stock....ordered online....came in and not one person in the shop or online could even begin to assist me with a data transfer. Did it myself. Phone speaker blew 2 weeks later...literally on the 14th day. If I hadn't returned it that exact day it would have been sent back to the suppliers. Again...not ONE person could assist with wiping my phone. Sent back to the store but now what happens about the $50 screen guard I had to buy at BEST BUY BECAUSE Staples didn't have any......???? Just suck it up as a customer because the staff sure as hell don't give a continental
