I have to give a big thank you to the management of this store. A while back we had two SonyMP3 players that decided it was time to throw in the towel. Fortunately, it was one of the times that I actually bought the extended warranty. The problem was that , the model was no longer available. The manager ungraded the mp3 players, without any issue. He only had one in stock to give us, so he called another store and found a second one for us. We had two new players and kept the faith in Staples. Above all, the customer service here is exceptional. In getting beyond the straight-faced security guard, I've always been welcomed with a smile and kind regards. I used to frequent Staples quite often during my time as a design student, and thus, got a feel for the store's common vibe. Consistently helpful and friendly. Having trouble finding something? Service is coming right up and happy to help. Not sure what it is you're looking for? Employees seem well informed on the product they are selling. I was in the market for an external hard-drive and went to Staples for a look. There were a few I was interested in, but talking to one of the tech guys, he encouraged me to check out the Mac Store. Apparently the models sold at Staples can add a hassle with extra software necessary for Mac compatibility. I would've never known, and this was a great tip. Genuine regards all the way. The copy services are very efficient was well. I've gone in a time crunch before class, and workers know just what they're doing. The checkout is just the same. The customer service here is wild. You walk in the door and you're greeted within seconds. You stroll down the aisles and an employee pops out of nowhere to see if you need help. The people working at the print center are also super helpful, and even when it's mega busy they take the time to give you a nod, which I very much appreciate. I really dig the nod... During my last visit I bought a typewriter tape. Yes, Staples still carries typewriter tape. The guy who helped me was great; we had to look though the guide book to figure out what my typewriter required, and he informed me that I could return it if it didn't work out. On an unrelated note, they have these great sustainable notebooks made out of sugar cane. The prices are good and they're super sweet. This Staples on Gottingen is fantastic. The service is thumbs-up and they carry some perhaps out of date goods, which works well for me. read more

Everything you could possibly need for your home office at 'Staples' on Gottingen. I find the staff can be pretty inconsistent at this particular store. Even on the same visit in i've often been impressed and disappointed all within 15 minutes. The floor staff seem to really go out of their way to find what you might be looking for... this is in contrast to the cashiers, one of whom refused to say one word to me as I checked out earlier this week. Overall though, lots of selection. File folders in fewer than 50/pack would be a nice addition! read more

Perhaps it's a quirk of being a Virgo - but I love a good office-supply store, and I'm certainly doing my part to make sure this particular store stays in business. I have a home office and I like - no, i NEED - it to be organized, so I'm in here a lot, buying little things that make my life easier. But I also have a thing for nice pens, and I buy all my printer paper and inkjets here. I also have to do some copying from time to time and they have a good self-serve copy area as well as copy services for bigger jobs. Prices here are pretty good (although you can get some things cheaper at, say, Walmart). Staff are friendly and helpful. read more

So, most Staples are pretty much the same. You can expect to have all your copying needs met and find just about any kind of paper you need. They've got your printers and computers, as well as software and games. The only thing I found different about this Staples was the fact that I needed to visit the security guard at the front door in order to use the bathroom. It was a little awkward since he walked me all the way back there and opened the door for me. When I walked in he oddly said, "have fun," which I found quite odd. I'm not sure why they have the added security for the bathroom, but it sure was uncomfortable. I find the ladies at the copying centre here to be pretty nice. I don't do a lot of copying, so it's nice to have friendly people help me out when I need it. I had sent them a file that I wanted printed and it was finished within the hour. It was great because the internet said it would take up to six hours... but I needed it sooner than that. Gladly, they are on top of things here. I just really don't like the bathroom situation. Better Prices Than Most! Staples is by far cheaper in a lot of areas of its store than most other office supply stores. Lets start with the copy and print center. I have priced their services with other major copy and print stores in the city and have found a huge difference in pricing. Staples is just plain old cheaper for the same quality. Their staff in the copy and print center aren't as friendly as some other places, but they will get the job done for sure. The computer section is small and doesn't seem to be the main focus of the store. I am a Mac fan and this is where Staples falls short. Their Apple Macintosh selection is poor to say the least. But I go there mainly for the office supplies and printing. In both of these sections, I'm in heaven. I love their selection and their pricing is quite fair. Their staff around the store in general are really nice and eager to help you out. They always seem to have just the right amount of staff so you are never waiting that long to be served. They tend to have better sales and deals on a more consistent basis as well. So for being a very solid business with the right prices and deals to keep customer's coming back, I give Staples four very well deserved stars. read more

I love staples. The staff are always so helpful and cheery and seem to love their job. AND they put up with people who love electronics but know nothing about them...(ahem....me) I also have a writing note obsession and their wall of notebooks makes me feel like Julia Roberts in Pretty WOMAN - buying clothes at that ritzy store. ANYWAYS - they always have very knowledgeable staff that are ready and willing to help. I've never witnessed anyone being mistreated or talked down to (which I see a lot now a days). IF they dont have it in stalk they find you the cheapest and easiest way to get what you want on your hands - including calling all other locations! And so ends the long, arduous journey to find a new power adapter for my laptop. These guys actually did some troubleshooting, and tried out the adapters they had in store to see which one would work before sending me out with the wrong item. It turned out that I needed the HP brand of adapter, and as I was preparing myself to order one and wait 6-8 weeks before I could use my computer again - that's 6-8 weeks of using the library to write papers and 6-8 weeks without downloading a single byte or using my MP3 player - the staples computer guy found one in stock. I was not expecting that, and it made my day. I may not have liked working for staples very much (I think retail work just isn't really my thing), but as it turns out I like shopping there. And the friendly security guard also helped me find the bus stop that I needed to take back home as I left the store. read more

WARNING: Do not deal with these people for IT problems. The Gottingen St. Staples IT staff & management are rude, unprofessional, and incompetent. They over charge, and have a series of fees they use to justify what is essential a program designed to cause non IT people to part with stacks of cash. In my opinion they target women and seniors with this program. My mother was charged $300 for the installation of a new hard drive, and these people didn't even image her old HD to transfer to the new one. Instead, they charged her $20 for installing office, and $100 for installing the drive and new operating system. When I called up to express my concerns I was greeted with a bad attitude and rude comments by their manager. I was essentially told "It's not my fault your mother's an idiot." I wasn't even asking for my money back. I just wanted to ensure they knew about this so that maybe they could do better the next time. Instead I was overtalked and insulted. I came in today to print a single item that I needed printed on a sheet of thick, glossy paper. I was told that there was no way I could print it myself, because the printers at this location can only take regular, non-glossy paper, and the one photocopier that could have used the paper I needed is out of order. I was further told that I would have to wait at least an hour and a half to have your staff print a single piece of paper for me. When I said that I found it a bit frustrating to have to wait an hour and a half for a single sheet of paper (especially since self-serve was not an option -- and yes, I did make a point of be polite and said almost exactly those words), the guy behind the counter complained about how busy he was and told me this is "just how business works" at Staples. So... the way your business works is that you have no self-serve options, employ rude staff, and can't print a single sheet of paper in under an hour and a half? The worst part is, my partner had an almost identical experience the last time we tried to print something there, a couple weeks ago. Great job, guys. Way to lose our business twice. Needless to say, we will never, never try to print anything at this location again, and I will make a point of telling people how bad the customer services is and recommend they go somewhere else. I've heard that Staples is planning to shut down a number of locations across Canada. Frankly, if this is one of the ones that goes, it won't be a loss. read more

This was the least welcoming Staples I have ever experienced. We had gone to print and copy a large amount of material, in a group of five people as there was a large workload, and one of the employees had called the copy center inquiring as to why there was so many of us. The employee working at the print center itself was not very knowledgeable at all about the printers that the customers would be using to print. We had a simple problem with the printer which we were able to fix ourselves, and he had told us that he knew nothing of the printers and never used them for anything. We were also reminded that the store closed an hour before closing time. It seemed a little aggressive, and felt like we were being rushed, even though we were very well paying customers. Overall not a good experience, but the print center itself was very good and well stocked for the job we had to do. read more

Stopped in to this particular Staples Sunday about 4;45 Pm. Did not realize they were closing at 5 PM and at no time were we made aware of this. No announcement telling customers about closing procedure etc. When we did attempt to check out we were directed to the copy centre as the main cash had shut down and we had the misfortune to get a girl at the copy centre who at no time said hello or made eye contact with us. I paid in cash and she had a difficult time determining if I had paid enough then she didn't count back my change to me which is very important. After I got my change she did ask if I wanted a bag and seems annoyed when I said yes and she jammed the items in. She quickly stuffed in the receipt and once again ignored us. The level of customer service that is becoming the norm these days horrifies me as it continues to drop alarmingly. I have had many very good experiences at other Staples locations but this one today was a huge drop in what i have come to expect. read more

I have shopped often at this particular Staples and have always received great advice and assistance. Prices are good, inventory is good and staff are great. Until this morning when that was definitely not the case. I have to agree with other writers who suggest that staff can be inconsistent because it certainly was this time. I needed to exchange a gift but did not have the receipt. I will have to try and get that. But i received no assistance from the staff and in fact in my opinion they were quite rude. This is not about the customer service at this Staples location, it pertains to the not so outstanding way they treat new employees, and the unrealistic expectations they place on trainees. I know of someone who was recently let go without warning and was given no indication that anything was wrong with their performance until they were given the boot, at the end of shift. They were told they weren't catching on quickly enough and weren't a good fit. Then, " but don't take it personally you are a nice girl, bye now". Seriously? This is not accectable employee treatment in my books. Not everybody learns at the same rate, and to snafu someone's potential before they get into the swing of things, is plain wrongful dismissal.
