I'm a returning customer. I usually use local shop as I like the personal attention. I've considered Costco but having hundreds of folks passing by was not all that appealing... So I returned to Stanton...their frames are relatively attractive and don't cost a mortgage payment. The staff is always friendly and attentive. I will admit I'm a tough fit and could be the customer from hell requiring multiple returns for an adjustment. The staff said don't worry; we have customers that come back every week because they damaged their frames. So I gave them my latest prescription. I selected the exact frame I had a few years ago...funny...as I went thru their vast selection and chose the same frame... When I picked up my glasses the prescription was spot on and the fit was perfect...no need to tweak the fit...they also refitted lenses into another frame that I purchased a few years ago. My only concern is that they have so many deals that it's impossible to match them up. But they are very "transparent " with the pricing and you do see what you get on their order form. I thought the price was more than fair and the overall experience was very good. I'd certainly recommend them. read more

It started in September 2024 when my sister took her son to purchase eyeglasses. We had to wait over an hour, not to mention that we brought along two children with severe, non-verbal autism. When Jewel, the manager, came to assist us, she had an attitude and was very rude and condescending. We chose not to complain at that time. Now it is July 2025, and we needed to replace the frames, which were under warranty. Jewel, the manager, told me that I had already used the warranty once in May and that it was only valid for one use. I went home and looked up the warranty, which indicated that it was unlimited. I then called customer service and spoke to Isiac, who confirmed that I could use the warranty as many times as needed until October 2025. On August 2, 2025, I returned to the store to get the replacement glasses and informed them that I could use the warranty. However, they told me again that I couldn't use it. I insisted they check the notes on my account, which showed the warranty was indeed unlimited. Eventually, they agreed, and I was able to get my son's glasses. read more

The 2 stars were for the actual employees here. Everyone was very nice, patient with everyone I saw them come in contact with. The reason ONLY 2 stars is you will wait FOREVER for them to get a tele-doc to do your exam, there are no doctors on site. Start to finish i was there like 2 hours. Absolutely ridiculous for an eye exam. When my contacts came in, no one contacted me. I went in after a month and they found them. Terrible disorganization. Do not recommend. We really need better options in Santa Maria. read more

They don't have doctors on sight. They don't tell you that when you book the appointment you're basically doing zoom with an eye doctor. The whole process takes over an hour even when you had an apt. On top of that the doctors put in my prescription wrong as I came in for contacts not glasses and now I'm being told I can come back to get my prescription. It's an absolute joke. read more

Went to Stanton Optical three years ago. I was very happy with my glasses. The quality was excellent and for that I give five stars. My review today is about resent customer service. Called the Santa Maria CA store and explained I had broken the frame but the lenses are good and just needed to get new frames. I was told since it had been over a year they could not use the old lenses with the new frame and would need a eye exam and new pair of glasses. In my opinion quality customer service would have replaced the frame with out the need to up-sale and require full replacement. First of all who needs two pair of glasses? Not everyone but that's your only choice at Stanton. I felt like I was at a car dealership when I went in to check on what they had to offer and the prices. Why 4 different types of lenses? It's all about upselling. I didn't know at the time that they used video eye tests. That has to be a joke. Where are the machines that they use to check various eye issues? One of them blows a puff of air into your eye. How do you do that on video? If you need glasses go to Costco. You don't need to be a member to get an eye exam for $54.00. Just tell the greater you are there for an eye exam. If you want to buy glasses ($50.00 off your second pair) and are not a member pay $60.00 for a membership. If you don't need it after you buy your glasses they will refund you at any time during the year. There is no selling or upselling. Nobody beats Costco. read more

I visited the Santa Maria location a week ago. I had an eye exam and picked up my prescription 10 days later. The prescription didn't seem correct, and the staff told me to wait a few days. I did that and went back because the prescription was blurry. They re-tested me and told me that the prescription was supposed to provide me with 20/20 vision. I again said it was blurry. They told me to wait a few more days. This is a terrible place to get any reasonable service. I now have to go somewhere else for my prescription because this place is terrible. Don't go there!!!!!! No care at all about the patrons. I have never been so unsatisfied about an eye exam and prescription. read more

After spending close to $800 on 2 pairs of glasses, i go to pick up my prescription sunglasses, the girl at the desk gives me the glasses and there were dust on the lenses. I requested them to be cleaned, so instead of her cleaning my glasses she handed me the microfiber cloth to do it myself ! Then I requested a case for my glasses before leaving and was told that they don't give cases for sunglasses !!! This outfit is a sham, employees are nonchalant, you get a feeling they really are there to empty your pockets. PS Look at all the responses from their customer service, especially when a customer has complaints; it's the same rubber stamp answer, TOTAL BS. If I could give zero stars I would. I set up an appt via telephone after searching in network providers for my insurance. I check in for my appt and everything was fine until all of a sudden I sit down to a virtual provider, ok, this is weird that I was never told my appt would be with a virtual provider. Then throughout the exam, I asked the provider to slow down when switching between lenses & she did not. I was surprised that as a new patient I was never asked about my positive responses on the health history or vision history form they had me fill out. Once my exam was over, I did not feel very confident that the prescription would be accurate because I told her the options she gave me were still blurry & she said "no you're fine, the lenses I have for you have you at 20/20 vision." Anyway, I go out to check out and obtain my prescription and was informed that I could not have a copy of my prescription unless I purchased frames from the store. The sales person said, "You have to buy frames otherwise I have nothing to attach the claim to for your insurance." I said how about you submit the claim for just the eye exam & she said that's not how we do it here, if you don't buy frames we will charge you $70 for your eye exam and maybe you can try to submit it to your insurance for reimbursement ." I explained to her that this was clearly a gimmick to get sales, sounded illegal and that these terms were never disclosed until after my exam and this was horrible customer service. I also told her at no point was I informed that my exam would have been performed by a virtual provider and that I had never consented to a tele-health visit, she said "well we don't have an on site eye doctor, neither does Costco or Walmart." (Which is untrue, both have on site eye doctors). I asked her how to file a complaint and she said she would submit a ticket. I asked for how I could follow up on the ticket & she said there was no way for me to receive any follow up. She refused to give me anything other than the store contact info to make a complaint. Needless to say, I will dig up the corporate info to complain about the horrible customer service. Save yourself a headache, don't bother with this place. Nothing but problems. First off, the optical representative failed to inform me that the eye exam would be free with purchase of glasses or contacts. I used insurance but bought both contacts and updated lenses. Also, this new staff is terrible in comparison to the last staff employed there. Previous experience was seamless. Upon receiving my lenses I was informed that the machine messed up and the agent would have to retrace the lenses and send back to the lab. That created a terrible inconvenience, since I'm going out of town. I don't believe the machine messed up. I believe the agent traced the lens incorrectly! Not only that, I had to call to find out if my products were in. God only knows when they would have contacts me for pick up! Thumbs down read more

I went to Stanton Optical for a new prescription after I had my son. It had been about 3-4 years since I had my eyes checked. The exam was completed remotely, with the person on the other end of the screen switching between the different lenses. In my first exam, the woman switched between the lenses quickly, with me even asking her to slow down, twice. She did not. Once my exam was complete I was weary about my new prescription. Once my new glasses came in, my eyes were unable to adjust switching between the two different screens I use for work. I made a recheck, and this time the prescription changed from 1.75+ to 1.00+. That's a big change! Well, sadly, my prescription was still off and my eyes still are not adjusting. When I did a self-check, my new prescription is actually blurrier than my vision in my right eye, and the left eye shows no difference with the glasses on or off. When picking up my glasses, instead of the two different glasses I had chosen, they made me the same pair twice. When I noticed they were wrong, they asked me if I wanted to purchase the second (WRONG) pair for an extra $15 to have a backup. I declined as I had paid $400+ for the two pairs already. When I received the second pair, the paint was chipped so I asked for a different pair. They called me about a week later saying they were out of the navy blue color and if I would prefer black. I guess I didn't have a choice so I said sure. They let me know my new prescription was in about another week and a half later, however, when I went to pick it up, only 1 of my glasses was available. This new prescription is still wrong, as described above. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't like to be an inconvenience to anyone so I ended up using my old pair of glasses instead of feeling like a complaining customer. My old glasses actually work better than these new prescriptions I paid for at Stanton, and I got them at Walmart! When I called to get another recheck they said I would have to pay for another examination because it has been 3 months since my first examination. So basically I just wasted over $400 on 2 pairs of glasses that are the WRONG prescription. I'm not sure what is going on with Stanton Optical, but I will NEVER be going back there again. Went in for new glasses in 2018 and new lens in 2022 and the service/glasses where great(NO DEI same people there)....Went in for new glasses sept 2024 to all new people, and took the eye test. Had an appointment but had to wait. Waited 11 days for my new glasses and they where TOTALLY wrong. They say my left eye did not change prescription but my right eye had changed from 3.25 to 4.50(thats a big change) They didnt even ask me to try them to see if they where right just here ya go out the door, I did it myself and told them this is wrong...WAY WRONG. They seem to kind of brush it off and told me to wear them for 5 days to let my eye conform to the new prescription which I did. I was told by a REAL Doctor that wearing a bad prescription would have ruined my right eye. I went in today to return them and get my original prescription done, 3.25 both eyes because I see the same with both eyes which I told them when I picked them up 5 days ago. The viral test is BS, the idiot must not have known what he was doing (DEI) The whole place has gone DEI, the girl today tells me to wait and wait for something that should take less then 2 minutes. I already waited for my new glasses and wasted 5 days on bad advice, They should have known I might be returning because of their FK up. Now Im waiting AGAIN for who knows how long and if they are not PERFECT I will be getting my $682 back and go to a REAL optometrist. Sad DEI is destroying everything it touch's. I came in today very desperate and on a budget. I had one contact in one eye and the other contact ripped. I could not afford a fancy pair of glasses and I really was hoping I could get lenses and basic glasses. I was greeted by staff and helped by Edgar. He chose glasses for me that made me feel really confident. I knew he knew what was best for me. I explained my financial situation and he totally tailored a deal for me where I was able to walk out with a fresh pair of contacts and glasses!! Truly a god send. I give Stanton optical five stars. I have never been there before but I had been referred from a friend and my daughter. When I walked in I was greeted right away in and made feel very at home. I got there right at 9 o'clock and they let me in and then when Sacha got there which was right at 9 o'clock I was there a little bit early and they let me in she was very helpful and took her time and was very patient and helping me pick out two pairs of very nice glasses that I'm going to be very happy with. I've always paid over $500 for one pair of glasses and I got two pairs of glasses for right about that price. I went here for a set of lenses I lost and had them replace. Since it was the first time I had ever had a virtual eye examine it was a bit different sitting in the room with a big TV screen and the Optometrist/Lab Tech was on the screen but it was pleasant and nothing short of the Optometrist being in the same room. I must admit that I was concerned that my prescription would not be correct but when I picked them up they were better than ever. I would like to give a big compliment to Edgar and Janae who were very helpful and gave us exceptional customer service. Janae was also training another person that was new at the time and still managed to give me great customer service while training and answering her questions. Janae help fit my glasses to my face and also a pair of glasses I had from a year ago for reading that kept falling off my face which was very kind of her to tighten the sides for me so they wouldn't fall off. Edgar Gonzales helped my husband--hard of hearing--understand and follow the easy directions and waited to make sure he was doing fine with the process. They get one star only because I can't give them zero. First, I bought a new frame because I broke one. The optic tech put the lenses in and asked me to try them on. My eyes went buggy, and everything was out of focus. I told the tech that, and she just shrugged her shoulders, saying everything was the same. After some time, another tech came and said that probably the lenses were backwards. She reinstalled the lenses, and they were good. Just like the original. Thinking that this second tech has experience, I had her adj my daily frame as it was a little loose. She put sharp kinks in the earpieces discoloring the plastic from the stress. I called the manager over and complained. The manager stated that's how they adjust glasses and refused to heat them up so I could fix them. She said she would have the tech do it. Well, that is not an option for me since she messed them up even after I told her not to kink them like that. Stay away from this place. These people are not optometrist professionals. Rather, they are untrained hacks at best. read more

Omgshhh I will not go anywhere else. Stressed mom right before back to school trying to get glasses for my daughter and on a budget. They were super quick to get me an appointment and gave me the ABSOLUTE BEST CUSTOMER service I've ever had compared to Costco. UPDATE: I never received anything telling me I had a response from Stanton. I did call them today to let them know I would not be returning for another exam from a virtual optometrist. They offered us an option to go to another office in Visalia, Ca. That us 174 miles away. That is ridiculous, how can they expect anyone to drive that far for an eye exam! The only way we would be satisfied is a full refund, so we can go to a local Optometrist. My husband has had the same complaints about his progressives as well. We have to put up with these inadequate glasses for another 8 months before we can get new glasses through our insurance. Very unhappy customers! read more

RUN! DON'T GO HERE! Got a Stanton eye exam and new Rx for my glasses, & then ordered 2 pair of sunglasses. The next week I had to go to an ophthalmologist for something else and he also gave me a Rx for glasses. I went back to Stanton to pick up my sunglasses & they were not what I ordered - wrong frames, not even sunglasses, and had reading prescription instead of distance. Then it turns out that the eye prescription Stanton gave me was incorrect compared to what the ophthalmologist gave me. So everything was TOTALLY WRONG. I asked for my $400 back and they refused. Stanton eventually agreed to refund $300 but insisted I pay for their wrong eye exam and prescription in the amount of $95. Get this.... I never paid $95 in the first place: I had paid $45. So I got my $ back for the wrong glasses but they absolutely refused to refund erroneous eye exam. RUN and go find a reputable store. read more
