Honestly the BEST. STAFF. EVER!!!! We Had get glasses and they said it would take a couple weeks. My husband had them in six days later and I had them a week and a half later because of Christmas and New Year's This staff is AMAZING!!!! Dr. Palmer is a fine doctor, friendly, caring. However, his business practices are questionable. Double bills for services, does not provide itemized receipts (unless demanded by the patient), frames are very costly. Hopefully you have a good vision insurance plan. read more

Dr. Palmer was nice and seemed thorough. The staff was also pleasant. Unfortunately, after I had cataract surgery, I did not ask if they had an agreement with Medicare, which would cover a small part of the cost of new glasses. It just did not occur to me to ask, but they should have been forthcoming about the fact that they do not have an agreement with Medicare I asked if I could stop the order for new glasses I paid for just yesterday, and was told that all sales are final. They will not be ready for a few weeks, so it's hard to believe that the order cannot be canceled. The cost is twice what I have paid for glasses in the past. I will never return, except to pick up my expensive glasses. read more

Great people, great prices. Had metal stuck in my eye, surprisingly they told me to come right in. No waiting, right to the chair, and problem fixed in no time at all. They personally called in the prescription, got the price which the Doctor was not happy with so he got on the net and found a discount. I've read several previous reviews and want to state a fact. If you have VSP or another vision care insurance, then that is what you want to give them. Last August I went to Dr. Palmer, and his office staff took my medicare info, my secondary Blue Cross PPO info, and my VSP info. To my surprise, they only billed my medical insurance! Never filed with VSP ! It took me from last August to May of this year for them to send me a refund of $46.00. I paid out-of-pocket $84.00 just for the exam and prescription! I have been taking my kids here for years. I used to love it but the Dr. tries to sell you on myopia drops/ lenses every visit. I get it, it is for the health of the eye and to prevent other diseases but I have declined at every appointment. My daughter had an appointment to get fitted for contact lenses when I declined the myopia lenses the lady upfront (Stacy) looked at the other lady and said what do I do now? She was very rude. My daughter left in tears after waiting for this appointment, for them to say she would need to come back to do the trial and try on which I was told we would do at this visit and confirmed it before her appointment. She has wore glasses most of her life and was so excited to switch to contacts at this appointment . The miscommunication has been happening multiple times from what our appointment would be for, to not being informed lenses were on back order, then to them ordering wrong lenses after waiting over a month and to them saying lenses were covered but when we arrived to say they got it wrong and they weren't. As far as the other staff members, they have always been polite but I have talked to Stacy on the phone before and she is always rude on the phone and in person. What an experience! Been dreading doing the annual family optometry appointment, but can't say enough great my things. No dilation needed!! (drama with our last doctor for my kids) They have a brand new camera that's a one-stop shop for what we needed. My 6yr old and 8yr old had such a great experience, we learned some preventative measures and they got to pet Mason, the office dog, which was a treat. For myself, finally needed glasses! The best part? My lenses were cut right on site - no wait. As a busy mama and one who works, the last thing I had time for was frame shopping and waiting for them. If you use Dr Palmer's office for your vision exam be careful if you have both health insurance and vision insurance. I ended up paying much more for my vision exam than I have ever had to in the past before I moved here. His office insisted on getting my health insurance information, which I felt strange because in decades of going to optometrists I have never had one ask for my health insurance. Then when I told him I would like a recommendation for an ophthalmologist he stated (IMO somewhat haughtily) that he could do anything an ophthalmologist could do. I had cataract surgery years ago and have been regularly examined my previous ophthalmologist (I moved and he retired so I needed a new ophthalmologist). I thought about walking out at that point, and probably should have. The actual vision exam seemed standard. He noted some cloudiness behind the artificial lens from the cataract surgery, which I already knew about. At the billing stage things fell apart for me. Because he noted the cloudiness he billed my health insurance for the exam rather than my vision insurance. Previous optometrists have billed my vision insurance for a well vision exam. If he had billed my vision insurance the total cost for a general well vision exam including the refraction test (for a reading prescription) would have been $10. Because he billed my health insurance the cost to me was $77 - copay for the health exam and more because the health insurance does not cover the refraction test. And he then referred me to an ophthalmologist to check the cloudiness, at which time I would have to pay another copay. So it cost me $77 instead of $10, for no real added benefit to me. Be careful. I gave 2 stars because other than the billing issue, the actual exam seemed acceptable. read more

First visit, an emergency, got a piece of metal stuck in my eye. Tho booked solid for the day they squeezed me in with no waiting time. Staff was friendly and efficient. Doctor very friendly and knowledgeable. Fixed me up and I was out in a very short period of time. Doctor took the extra time to find me a discount coupon for the meds I needed and immediately called them in to the pharmacy. I have no insurance but was happy with the bill, very reasonable. I have had dry eye issues for way too many years! Along with that symptom come others as well of a lot of discomfort to say the least. When time was evident I needed another eye exam I happened to spot some reviews about Dr. Palmer. Parts of what I read caused me to schedule an appointment with him. I needed to find relief in several ways and felt hope. Similar to my own professional challenge in problem solving, I found he also was on that track in genuinely trying to help his clients. More hope felt. Not only did he nail my eye glass prescription but followed through and patiently explained why I felt dry eyes. Briefly from a copy paste online: "Changes to the amount or quality of the oil, or to the glands themselves, can lead to MGD.." That sure explained a lot of why I felt what had been!! I will conclude that some relief HAS been found via following Dr. Palmer's suggestions of which I am continuing in efforts of landing even more relief! read more

I recently visited Nipomo Optometry in Nipomo, CA. I have a dry eye condition that has kept me from wearing contacts and the beginning stages of macular degeneration. I needed an optometrist that understood the importance of proper testing and analysis with the knowledge and ability to address these conditions early on. I appreciated the expertise he shared with me and the remedies that followed. I have gone to see Dr. Palmer for 2 annual visits now and have a great experience both times. The office is in a bit of an odd location, behind a gas station, next to Little Jackos. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Dr. Palmer himself is knowledgeable and takes time to answer questions (I always seem to have many) and also has given me some education regarding the health of my eyes that no other Optometrist has pointed out before. His dog comes with him to work on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is such a sweetie. My first time visiting his office I didn't even realize the dog was in the room until I was leaving, he had been asleep behind my chair the whole time! At my most recent visit the staff was very apologetic for keeping me waiting as they were short staffed due to a few illnesses. Despite them being understaffed I was in and out in 45 minutes, much faster than most other doctors appointments.
