Chairs in jurors room are comfy
Mary M.

I completed jury duty at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse a couple of weeks ago. It was super easy to get to the courthouse using Google Maps and the Walt Disney concert hall parking was easy. There is someone at the entrance that will scan your juror's badge for you on entering. Make sure you note where you parked so you can find your car when you leave. There is an entrance on Grand (you don't have to go down to the Hill Street entrance) and it was quick to get through the security screening. If you do enter on Grand you are on the fourth floor so you will need to take either the escalator or elevator down to the second floor for the jury room. The court is really retro looking and I appreciate that they have kept a lot of the original features of the courthouse. In the jury room there is a refrigerator for jurors to use and also a microwave. There is a snack bar right outside of the room also. For me it was quicker at times to use the escalator rather than the elevator. It is fairly easy to get around the courthouse without getting lost. There were a LOT of people waiting in the halls outside the courtrooms. Thank you to fellow Yelpers who posted about their jury duty experiences and the tips for parking and info on the courthouse. It was really helpful!

Located off N Hill St in Los Angeles. I believe this is an older courthouse each level seems to have one long hallway other than the 9th floor where the cafeteria is located which is nice and you can also eat and sit outdoors and see a view of downtown LA. The Jurors waiting room is ok the seats have outlet plugs and usbC plugs but along the hallways it's tough to find outlets mainly you'll find them but the empty phone booth areas. Overall there is not much areas to get comfy at bench's are concrete style so a bit hard on the tushy I found the comfy bench's in front of the cafeteria on the 9th floor but no outlets around them. So be prepared for your electronics with battery packs if needed.

So difficult to navigate long hallways and rooms poorly marked. Difficult to find where you need to be.

JURY DUTY Fluorescent lights, ugly brown walls, dated restrooms, cold slabs for seats in the hallway, and overpriced snack bars make this institution less than superior. Since you're not allowed to take photos in the building, the above description will have to suffice. Not my kind of place, but when you are summoned, you have no choice. Free parking at Disney Concert Hall when you flash your Juror badge. Then it's a 5-minute walk to the courthouse. Be prepared to go through airport-type security. I headed where we were instructed to go, only to be sent somewhere else twice. It was annoying. They still haven't finished remodeling the Jury Assembly room, so we had to wait in the hall near our courtroom. Employees were all pleasant, helpful and efficient. When they released us for lunch, I headed to Grand Central Market, which seemed to be the only thing happening in this ghost town. Then, it was back to the courtroom. Interestingly, we were informed that the court closes at 4:30PM for safety reasons, so you won't have an exceptionally long day here. After numerous questions, I was eventually excused in time to miss rush hour traffic. Picked up the proof I've been there and scrammed. Grateful I've finished my civic duty for at least another year!

Adults sitting on floor for hours waiting to be called to serve on jury. (Notices banning photos as enforceable as notices requiring masks)
Cassandra C.

JURY SERVICE SHOULD NEVER REQUIRE FEATS OF PHYSICAL STAMINA. 1/Where were the masks? We are in a Covid surge, their website says that masks will be required and yet masks were rarely seen. Why? 2/The Jury room is "under renovation?" How long has that been going on? And on what planet does anyone think it is respectful to ask grown-ass adults to stand around, sit on the floor or even sit on one of the scarce hard benches FOR HOURS? I've been through this before. 4 years ago I was called from the jury assembly room to sit outside a courtroom for HOURS on marble floors and benches. Then I was called the next day to do that for more hours on end. It was a nightmare for my back. Then, 2 years ago jurors in the assembly room were asked to volunteer to serve in Hollywood, which was closer to my home so I gladly volunteered. That courthouse had a comfortable jury room - full of boxes and used as storage - so we, again, were expected to stand around waiting to do our service FOR HOURS. Even fewer benches (if any) and a filthy floor that no one would sit on. Here're some questions for you: Does the judge stand around or sit on hard benches for hours? Do the lawyers? Does the jury room staff? On what planet do you think it is reasonable to treat humans this way? And for what it's worth - I used to want to serve on a jury. I am one of those crazy people who value my citizenship - AND YOU RUINED THAT FOR ME.

Came here to begin restraining order process against a crazy female harassing me, and the process was just as easy as police officers who recommended it to me said it would be.

Ask the Community - Stanley Mosk Courthouse

What's the parking situation for people who are NOT jurors or reporting for jury duty? I have a newborn baby and am trying to do myself a favor and look up ALL the information I can before making the trip just to be prepared.

Where is a convenient parking lot for disable jury?

Uber is better.

I am dealing with a very Large pile of fraud concerning my Father's Estate. I have proof of everything yet No One wants to help me I am disabled and 62. I cannot afford what Attorney's want. What can i do? I have filed numerous Vulnerable Adult docs.

That's because they want to steal it and take it be aware and move it out of that janky court or you will be doomed- ijn

JURY SERVICE I hate…read morethis location, so I tried to switch my court venue for Jury Service. Unless you have to take more than three buses to get here or you have a medical excuse, forget it. On the plus side, there are fewer courtrooms here than Stanley Mosk, so you have a better chance of getting dismissed. Parking is right beneath the building. Show your jury summons, and you can park for free. There are plenty of spaces, but it is like a dungeon - dark! I found the elevator and took it to the first floor. Then, I had to get out, exit the building, and go through security. The line was short, and the process was quick. Then, I took an elevator to the 8th floor to the Jury Room. It's big and comfortable, but we aren't allowed to take photos of it. They way they handle juries is different than the last time I was here. We were told there are two groups - a morning panel and an afternoon panel. I was in the morning panel. Within 30 minutes, we were separated into two groups and sent to a department. Everything is done by number, probably to preserve anonymity, so the informative baliff had us line up in numerical order. I was number 2, so I thought I would be in and out of there promptly. Nope. Now, they interview everyone on the panel, which was about 38 people, before dismissing anyone. Once we took our assigned seats, the judge thanked us and gave us a rundown on how things were going to proceed. Then, she excused us for lunch. Unless you're a fast food junkie, pack yours! There is no cafeteria here, and the vending machines are pathetic. There was one food truck outside, and McDonald's and Subway were across the street on Washington Blvd. It's a food desert. When we returned at 1:30PM, we each had to stand up and answer a list of 11 heavy duty questions since it was a DUI case. It was fascinating and surprising to hear some of the answers. By the end of the day, everyone had responded, and we were instructed to return the next morning at 10:30AM. Beware: my courtroom, Department 75 is a meat locker, so bring a ski jacket! Plus, the air conditioner makes cringy inconsistent sounds that are annoying. The building itself is old and feels antiquated, but it gets the job done. The next day, once we were seated, the judge dismissed a number of people. I wasn't one of them. Then, the defense attorney spoke to us. She asked us all a few specific questions, and we had to respond by raising our hand, or not. Then, she asked certain people about their responses. Next, the prosecutor described his method. He, too, asked the group questions, which we replied by raising our hands, or not. Then, he asked particular people things. When that was over, the prosecutor dismissed one person. Then the defense attorney dismissed me. I had to return to the 8th floor to pick up that all-important piece of paper proving I had served for two days. All in all, employees at this courthouse were kind and helpful. Thankfully, everyone tries to make this experience as efficient as possible. Civic duty done!

Many people hate courthouses and it seems this one in particular because they associate them with…read morenegative experiences like traffic court, fines, involuntary jury duty, or the like. But it isn't the courthouse's fault! As far as courthouses go, this one is decent, even though it is getting a bit old and isn't in the best area of the city. There is ample parking in the area, and it is much cheaper than the other downtown courthouse (Stanley Mosk). The interior is clean and isn't really falling apart (yet), though it was clearly built in the 1970s or 1980s. Security to get in is typically quite efficient. Also, make sure to check the location of your courtroom - just because it says Department 65, does not mean it is on the sixth floor! That particular department is on the third floor by the way. As far as courthouses go, this place could be much worse. Four stars easily.

That saves you time, a trip to this recorder's office and shortens the long wait time here. While in line, sometimes a staffer will help and advise you and sometimes will help resolve your issue on the spot. Soooo have you ever wondered what its like to serve jury duty and what its like to actually serve…read moreat this court specifically...Well today is your lucky day and I'm going to let you know. So I had the pleasure of attending jury duty here. From the minute you walk in you are required to go through a security check point just like the airport screenings. You have to remove your watch, cellphone, any wires you may have and place them in a bin. In addition, you must take off your shoes and you must show your id. So you go through the screening and if everything is good you are cleared and you can gather your belongings and head over to the room you are designated to. So the court time I was told was at 745am. A very friendly woman opened the door and explained the process she was very clear with the directions and let it be known dont ask questions your questions will be answered when the time is right. So one by one we all stormed the room and sat on the chairs. The courthouse was kind enough to provide donuts and bottled water. Dont ask to go outside to use the restroom because they have restrooms inside the big room. They also have a break room with a vending machine, magazines, books and puzzles to keep you entertained. So after 15mins or so the woman working there stated that we were going to watch a video and the video would explain EVERYTHING!!! Sure enough it most certainly did. It was very informative and very clear. The lady had told us that she would call our names and we would be selected to go to one of the court rooms. In addition, we would have to get the juror badge and place it in the plastic cover and wear it on our shirts and make sure it was visible at all times. We also had to fill out a mileage form to be reimbursed for your mileage as well as if you had any travel hotel expenses if you travelled more than 80 miles plus. So the 2nd round I was one of the chosen ones to enter the court room to possibly be selected for a trial. So we get out instructions to go to a certain room on a certain floor and we just wait there a few mins till the court clerk comes out. The Court Clerk gave us each a number and we would announce ourselves by our number. I.e. juror number 3 or juror number 12. So we line up and we are asked to sit in a certain area. I won't go into too much detail about the selection process but you do meet the Honorable judge, the lawyers and plantiff. You are asked to give your occupation, if your married, any children, their ages, your spouses occupation. Your childrens occupation, etc. They ask if you have any conflict of interest or if you need to be excused. It was a long process and a little nerve racking at first but you have to remain calm and make sure to always day your juror number when speaking. I have to tell you though I was FREEEEZING in the court room even with my jacket and pants my teeth were chattering not sure if it was nerves or what but my goodness it was soooooo cold in there. When I hear the magical word YOUR DISMISSED I jumped up and down (not really but in my mind I did). I was sooo cold oh and make sure you turn off your cell phone as there is no coverage what so ever and it just drains your battery. Well I was dismissed but it wasnt over I still had to go back up to the original room and wait. An hour later it was lunch time. We were able to take an hour lunch and come back and wait. ..wait...wait to see if we were called again. Thankfully we weren't and were dismissed. They provide validation just make sure you parked in the lot they asked you to park in and make sure you get your work certificate printed if you need proof for work. All in all it was an interesting experience. Glad I was able to be a part of it. I was not selected but it's okay. Clean court house, friendly people, overall a nice environment just a very cold snd boring one. I highly recommend you bring your own reading material magazines, books, and snacks because you will have plenty of your time on your hands.
