There were no X-rays, etc. What made things worse was that his office had already received my medical and dental insurance information. Yet, the staff got defensive and refused to file or submit the claim, saying they wouldn't handle the paperwork. I've experience working with another dental surgeon with a different specialty who is also not in my insurance network -- and that team goes above and beyond to help me and ensure every step of the process is covered. Sadly, that was not my experience here. I hope this review helps others make an informed choice.

Their equipment and technology are absolutely top-notch -- so much better than other offices I've been to (like Chaz, Apple Dental, and even some in California). I told them this my first visit and they took the time to get to know me, help me try to get comfortable, and provide me medicine that I could take before my appointments to help me relax. I usually see Amber now and she is wonderful. She remembers things I've told her that are going on in my life, my kids names, etc. and it just makes you feel like a friend, not just a patient.

I sought this office specifically because I have significant dental trauma from past procedures where I was drilled without adequate numbing and told to "man up" while in pain. I have extensive dental work that needs to be done, which is exactly why I sought sleep dentistry. After the exam, I was told I did not qualify for sleep dentistry, not based on any anesthesia evaluation or airway assessment. The anesthesiologist refused to come see me or consider my case, and instead the office manager was sent in to deliver the decision. The only options offered were standard local numbing or nitrous (laughing gas). As an autistic adult, these options do not work for me. I have severe anxiety related to needles and the sound of the drill, which the office was made aware of. No meaningful alternatives were discussed, and no referral for hospital-based anesthesia was offered. To make matters worse, I was casually told to "go to my primary and get on Ozempic," which was completely inappropriate, unrelated to dental care, and dismissive rather than compassionate. On the financial side, I have had Delta Dental insurance for nearly two years, yet the office's financial representative told me I would need to wait another seven months before receiving any care, which made no sense given the length of time I've already been insured. If you advertise sleep dentistry and trauma-informed care, patients should not: * drive long distances only to be turned away * be denied an anesthesiologist consult * be offered only basic numbing despite documented trauma * be given weight-loss medication suggestions instead of care options * receive contradictory or inaccurate insurance information I came here seeking treatment, safety, and understanding. I left without care, without solutions, and deeply disappointed after investing significant time, travel, and trust.

During that time, Dr. Kerst has always treated my family with kindness and made us feel comfortable and cared for. My parents have been especially well taken care of by Dr. Kerst over the years, and my husband has also received wonderful care from him. This has truly felt like a family dental practice to us. I have had many dental issues over the years, and I have walked into his office embarrassed and anxious, only to have Dr. Kerst make me feel calm, respected, and cared for. That has meant a great deal to me. My daughter was born with congenitally missing teeth, and Dr. Kerst has taken beautiful care of her throughout all these years as well. One of the things I have always appreciated most about Latah Creek is that it felt like a family practice. We were never treated like a number. We felt like people who were known and cared about. Unfortunately, what happened on August 11,2026, completely changed that for me. My daughter, who is a college student, went in to have cavities treated. My husband and I were both working, and the office required her to pay $800--approximately half of the bill--before she could leave. I am listed as the guarantor and responsible party in their system. When my daughter called me afterward, she was extremely upset and crying, I felt so bad she was in this situation, I called my husband in tears, he works out of town and the last thing he wants to hear is that both of his girls are in tears because of a dentist office that we have trusted for years, the payment was taken from her account, essentially draining the money she had available as a college student. She said she felt like she was being detained. I know it's so hard to do any paperwork when you've been in the Dental chair and you're numb, that definitely made everything even worse. Those are the moments we need the most care when we're a little out of it. I was honestly shocked and heartbroken. After 10 years of being a patient and bringing my family there, I never expected my daughter to be put in that position. Regardless of the office's billing policies, I believe there was a much more compassionate way to handle the situation, especially when the responsible party was already on file. I want to make it clear that this is not a reflection of Dr. Kerst. He has always made me feel safe and comfortable, and he has taken wonderful care of my entire family. That is a huge reason this situation is so upsetting. Naomi and Tuesday at the front desk have also always been kind to us. Unfortunately, my experience with Audrey Collins at the front desk has damaged the trust I had in this practice. My daughter will not be returning, and I am honestly unsure whether I will continue as a patient myself. Finding a new dentist is a very difficult step for me because of how comfortable Dr. Kerst has made me feel over the years. I am leaving this review because I hope the practice understands how much one interaction can affect a relationship that took 10 years to build. I truly hope this situation is addressed, because I have always valued the care, compassion, and family feeling that Latah Creek Dentistry provided to my family.

The appointment went fine and the Dr. said my teeth were fine but...then decided I needed a deep cleaning and said they would not sign off until they did a deep cleaning. That's when I was presented with a $655 charge. I felt trapped. No where was there any discussion going in that it all hinged on a procedure I don't want. After the appointment as I drove home I received a message saying they would offer a discount of nearly $200.00. This experience is like the ol' bait and switch. I expect a call from someone with integrity from their management.
