Since then, I have learned that they do no have a place where the family can congregate and have a meal. Further, the only food that can be consumed has to be through their catering services. I am extremely disappointed with my experience with this company…read more The sales process was excellent, but once the purchase was completed, communication became very poor. Beginning on July 16, I repeatedly left voicemails and sent text messages to my counselor, Idarmis, simply asking for guidance on the next steps regarding my father's scroll. Weeks went by without any response. I was later told that Idarmis was waiting for instructions from my wife, who is the property owner. However, that explanation does not reflect my experience. If additional information or authorization was required, a simple phone call or text explaining that would have resolved the matter immediately. Instead, my repeated requests for guidance were ignored. Ironically, I only received a text message from Idarmis after I contacted the office manager, Christina, to express my concerns. What concerns me even more is the company's apparent policy of refusing to provide customers with management's email address when they need to escalate an issue. Multiple employees declined to provide it, which I found highly unusual. In all my years of doing business, I have never encountered a company that prevents customers from contacting management to resolve a legitimate concern. If managers are there to assist customers, their contact information should not be withheld from clients. That practice is unprofessional and should be reviewed by corporate. Families choose a funeral service provider expecting compassion, responsiveness, and clear communication during difficult times. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I hope the company reviews its communication practices and customer service policies so that future families do not experience the same frustration I did.

Very old cemetery which has been updated with new headstones on some of the gravesites…read more The word is that back in the 1800s the folks would come off of the ocean and walk inland and bury their dead here. We did not see any truly old grave stones but only new gravestones with old dates on them. There aren't that many given the large space and we can only imagine that there are many people buried here whose grave stones have been destroyed by weather.

This is the oldest cemetery in Miami south of the Miami River. It's a treasure trove of history…read morebecause many of the pioneers of Miami lie here. It is easy to find gravestones from the 1800's. It's original name was Larkins Cemetery for the Larkins Settlement that became south Miami. The cemetery has also been called Cocoplum, Pineywoods and finally, Pinewood. The last burial took place in the 1940's. After that the cemetery lay forgotten as it was desecrated by vandals who broke and stole headstones. What was left was buried in plant growth. In 1983 the citizens of Coral Gables formed a committee to restore the graveyard. The first order of business was to locate the boundaries of the graveyard. The committee found that two houses had enlarged their backyards and just fenced in gravestones when they took over the property. It took over two years just to get them to take down the fences. There are still bodies in the surrounding properties as some were found when a swimming pool was dug in for a house north of the cemetery line. In 1989 a rock wall was added and a plaque. Many people have worked to recover some of the stolen headstones and replace others. They were even able to get the military to replace some of the veterans tomb stones. Some of the vegetation has been cleared and you are able to walk around on the soft pine needle covered ground. On my visit I ran into a bike tour group from the Coral Gables museum doing a Halloween tour and I got to hear some of the fascinating stories from the guide. After I finished visiting I went over to the museum where I found a book titled Pinewood Cemetery, Coral Gables, Florida. It was written by Harriet Stiger Liles one of the earliest people to champion the restoration of the cemetery. She tells the history of the graveyard and how she was asked to lead the restoration of Pinewood. She includes a history of everyone buried there. When you look at the dates on the headstones you are faced with just how hard it was to be a pioneer in the 1800's. George Grew moved to Miami from Massachusetts, He was building his homestead and he had his shotgun with him for protection from bears. When he picked it up he accidentally discharged it into his chest. Dora Suggs is another tragic story. A 33 year old mother, she had driven her wagon into Coconut Grove to get supplies. The wagon was later found at home but there was no sign of Dora. When she was finally located later that night she had been assaulted and murdered. Five year old Allen Boring Barnett drown in the Coconut Grove Bayfront. There are many graved of babies who owing to the medical care of the time never made it past infancy. There is no parking at the cemetery. Biking over would be the best choice if you are able to. I took a chance and parked at a home that was being renovated across the street. If you are interested in history grab the book from the museum and head on over. Walking around makes you appreciate the difficulties the pioneers faced and how much Miami has changed in a mere 150 years.
