Limited edition can

I was so excited for this place to open last time I had a membership. I am glad we finally got to come here. Unfortunately, I did not get any food, but it looks and smells so good. I came for the drinks since they have such an fun variety. First, they have a bunch of fun soft drinks in both the cases and the fountain. In fact, the drinks at the fountain look more enticing than the ones in the fridge case. But their craft beer selection is wonderful. Today I found an Edger Allen Poe vanilla porter and a pumpkin beer for the season and I had to get some to walk around with and enjoy the Halloween festivities. The beer is from Griffin Claw, but they made a special Greenfield Village version and it is such a cute can, and well made beer. I also like that you can get some quick service here and take it around the village to consume. Halloween is one of my favorite times of year, and they do a great job. Even this place has their seasonal treats promoted outside the building, which is what brought me inside on this day. There is plenty of seating, and it has a fun vibe. It was a great addition to this place, celebrating Michigan and our unique cuisine.

Waygu meatballs, streamed seasoned broccoli and cheese bread. Double chocolate chip cookie and tractor strawberry lemonade.

These meatballs were surprisingly delicious despite being inside of a museum type atmosphere. Much better than the food court inside the DIA. Overpriced but worth the money. They went above and beyond for me and I will for sure recommend to anyone who asks where to eat inside of here. Yum!

Central Market pizza (all veg) in its take-out compostable container

I'm so happy this opened inside Greenfield Village (you need museum entry to eat here) There are several stations to order from: sandwiches/salads, Char (burgers/chicken), Chef's station (a seasonal, rotating menu of visiting chefs) and then another rotating offer My very favorite was a salmon meal offered in the fall- my standby is the Michigan salad (candied pecans, dried cranberry, feta and an amazing dressing) but today I tried the Central Market pizza (all roasted veg) The pizza is a great deal- it easily serves 4 It's heavy handed on the cheese so if you're not, ask for light cheese I love that this place is composting, using compostable take out containers and also offering free still & sparkling water (so don't buy the expensive aluminum bottled water) The cookies are great but $4 so you have to really want it

“The building is laid out is a little bit unique in terms of what they have at the Henry Ford.”

I've never been a big mall fan but now that they're rapidly dying out it's kind of a nice novelty…read moreto see one with a high occupancy rate. Yeah, they're down an anchor store and that's vacant storefronts here and there but by 2022 standards Fairlane is bustling. There was a decent crowd around noon on Monday in January. I made a couple trips here recently, buying a new belt at JC Penney after my cheap Meijer bought belt broke and paying my phone bill at the T Mobile cause, well, I was just in the neighborhood. The layout is a bit confusing and the three levels kind of go back and forth between odd sub-levels but it does lend the place something of an epic, labyrinthine feel. And like any mall it's some huffing and puffing to get around but I much prefer this type of layout to the giant endless oval of Great Lakes Crossing. If I wanted to navigate a humongous paper clip I'd drive NASCAR. Fairlane has that classic Taubman feel, sharing many similarities to Lakeside, albeit with more actual business. The occasional sculpture, the glass elevator with track lighting, both shut down presumably to save money, the sunken lounge areas with large leather sectional sofas. Fairlane lost their fountain though, while I think Lakeside still has theirs? I don't know. That's for another review. The food court still has a few options but with so much good ethnic restaurants none was tempting enough for me to fork over some ducats and park my butt at a table. The giant chess set by the food court is a fun free novelty. If I'd been there with another chess player I'd definitely want to try it. On my JC Penney outing I made some small talk with a couple playing chess. It was her first time playing; she was learning on that board! And one of the queens was missing so they just had both sides play without a queen. Fortunately on my more recent visit the missing queen had re-emerged though the board sat unused. The AMC theater, done up to look like the Chinese Theater here, unfortunately closed recently. I've had issues with overly yappy moviegoers talking over the film there in the past but that's still a bummer. They did have an IMAX and I loved the architecture of the place. Word is the owners are looking for another chain to reopen the cineplex though I'm sure there would be a remodel first so it'll definitely sit unused for awhile. The giant vacant hotel at the edge of the lot looms like a white elephant, too. I think "Town Center" can be anything on the complex and not just the actual mall, right? So it would be nice if a new tenant(s) took that over. That mid century glassy modernist style of the past somehow looks extra depressing sitting there vacant. Did you know back in the day a monorail ran between there and the mall? There's malls I thought about reviewing on here but never did and they're gone or will be gone shortly. I do believe Fairlane is safe for the foreseeable future though. Put this in a time capsule to see if I'm right but I think it will actually still exist as a shopping center in 20 years. If it outlasts Great Lakes Crossing I'll be especially happy.

Strange that there are no car rentals in Detroit. We had to take an uber here to pick up our car.read more

Being allergic to dairy, it's really rare to find a place that I can enjoy any sort of sweet snack from. Auntie Anne's makes it possible if I simply order a pretzel without the butter. Cuts the fat amount by a lot too! So typically I'll order Cinnamon Pretzel Bites- without butter. Takes like 6-8 minutes, but for some reason this specific location ALWAYS finds a way to deny me my pretzels. Couples times of "sorry we have a lot made already", "sorry we can't do that", and also, "sorry nothing would stick without butter." Having ordered that numerous times at other locations, I know it's definitely doable and delicious. With their Sweet Pretzel dip it's to die for! Especially because it's dairy free too! There was this one time that they agreed to make me a sweet almond one without butter... and it was horrible. It was absolutely horrible. They must have forgotten it in the oven or something. It was basically burnt. Even that pretzel dip couldn't save it. I also had requested them to be bites, but they gave me a whole pretzel, no biggie if it wasn't burnt! The lemonade felt extremely watered down too. I will avoid this location at all costs. Southland Auntie Anne's is my go to.
