Some courses look amazing on websites, but then disappoint in real life. This one looks incredible…read moreon the website... then lives up to it in real life, and then some. I make sure to go out at least once a year to play 36 holes. So I have probably played over 200 courses in my lifetime, and this is my favorite of them all. A true player's course, full of subtleties that can only be appreciated by good golfers. Every single hole is unique, there's not one single throwaway hole out of the 18. Every par 3 is an absolute gem, and it has 4 of the most interesting par 5's you've ever seen. This is not meant to shortchange the par 4's, which are also all very different and challenging. As beautiful as this course is, the greens are where the men are separated from the boys at the Crump. And if you're not in the correct section of the green with your approach, good luck 2-putting. It's as true a test of golfing ability as you'll find in New England. If you can break 80 here, you can probably shoot even par anywhere else. And for such a spectacular course, the people that work there are incredibly friendly and low-key. I've been to countless courses in New England (e.g. Wachusett and Shaker Hills) that can't hold a candle to Crump, where the uppity staff acts as if they're running Augusta. You get none of that arrogance here. The staff is as charming as the course. There is really only one thing I would add to improve the experience. GPS carts. There are several partially blind shots where it would really help out, especially regarding approach shots to elevated greens. The greens all have their own unique shape and if you don't know them, it's near impossible to know where to put the ball on the approach. So if you want to see a course you'll never forget, take the drive out to Bernardston and check it out. If you don't instantly fall in love with this course (especially in the fall where the foliage is simply phenomenal), you should find another sport. Lastly, a few words of warning... 1. Don't try to walk this course in the summer heat. I did it once, but will never do it again. Take a cart. 2. This course is geared towards very good golfers. I'd say if you're above a 15 handicap, do not torture yourself trying to play this course.

But my wonderful…read morepassenger pointed out, as I headed south through Massachusetts - "oh, I think that's another maple event?" "Where?" So I looked around and saw the cars parked behind me. U-turn. Pack into the gravel lot. And... go pet the cows. Yup, this is truly a farm. The barn smells like animals and you can pet the goats. All the staff is friendly and there to explain maple, farming, whatever you'd like. For maple weekend? Excellent. We went into the Calf-a (sound that out) and there was a fairly long waitlist, but passed the time in the maple steam room with free samples! and perhaps the most interesting samples of all. Maple mustard. Various maple dips. And while they were not cheap, the staff did work together to get me some Grade B maple, which is so hard to find nowadays. It's now in my fridge. Once our names were called, we found a great variety on the menu for a very reasonable price. I got two pecan pancakes, fresh made, and my lady got one maple cranberry, made with the cranberries that were used to infuse the cranberry maple syrup. Our table got an entire pitcher of maple to pour as we pleased - yes, I do please. I took a pair of maple donuts to go, and they do not taste like cider donuts. The maple stands out. Fresh made and soft. I know maple is March, but this farm seems like a winner any time of the year you're passing by.

We came here for 2 2-person lessons during a ski weekend. Though the facility looked great, if I…read morecould give 0 stars for the lesson, I would. I called to get 2 1-hour 2 person lessons for Monday and Tuesday (1/21-22) and knowing what I know now, I should have taken it as a warning that they seemed to coordinate throwaway sessions (eg. 5pm on Monday with 1 person and 12pm on Tuesday with another). Not withstanding, we walked in on Monday enthusiastic for a lesson for my 4.5 year old daughter and my wife. My daughter had taken a semester of tennis and my wife recently gave birth to our second daughter and is interested in taking up a new sport (she has played a few times recreationally with no training). Our daughter is extremely athletic and despite her age and size is a Level 3 swimmer and Level 2 gymnast. We have heard from anyone who has ever taught her what a pleasure she is to deal with and how much she is eager to take direction and adjust. So we walked in and the facility looks like a Junior tennis dream, they have a child net, walls, manipulatives, floor decals. It is a shame none of those were used during their lesson. The instructor, Seth, behaved little better than a ball machine with a snide demeanor, seemingly annoyed to be there. As he swapped off time between my wife and daughter throwing ball after ball at an adult net, no direction was given. No games were played with my daughter, no playfulness was shown. I sat in on most of my daughter's semester and she got orders of magnitude more direction/adjustment than this on day 1 of a group (!!!) class at 3.5 y/o. As I watched, it was so obvious that I thought the instructor must be some savant, spending the first half of the lesson assessing and would come back the second half with adjustments. He didn't. And at the end when we asked for guidance, for anything really to make this feel as if it weren't a total waste of time and money (which it was), he called my daughter young (duh) and my wife a beginner (duh) and that they should just 'have fun'. The guy was literally simultaneously USELESS and demeaning. I thought, maybe it was just us, that he saw the tourists come into town and treats regulars differently, however I saw him in a lesson after ours (another woman) and he behaved the same. We paid him for the grace of his presence, I politely cancelled our second lesson and walked out enraged. I was angry not as much over the waste of money, but more over the fact that he could have very easily soured them on tennis from this experience. If one is annoyed dealing with amateurs then they shouldn't take them--- and certainly shouldn't be in the business of introducing children to anything, let alone a sport. People like this should literally be run out of the industry.
