From the moment I drove in there was a sense it would be a good day. The place was immaculate. The carts electric and quiet, auto brake. The starter was incredible. Easy going and sent us out early just because he could. The course is challenging. 1st time awareness will lead to 2nd time mastery (I hope). Disappointed with proshop communication. Went to crumpin fox specifically to try the golf boards. I called two days prior to going to set a tee time and make sure we could use the boards, no problem. And another person called morning of our round, no problem. When we arrive the guy workings says there's a rule they aren't allowed out after 5:30. The reason we went was to use the golf boards. If calling twice doesn't work to confirm we could use them, I don't know what else I was supposed to do. A gem of a Robert Trent jones jr design. Sister course of fox Hopyard in CT. This one is not as "open" though more trees but same challenging layout. Excellent greens fast and true. Long fairways and beautiful wood views. Absolutely worth the drive and cost. Great proshop and food choices. The range could use some work. read more

Some courses look amazing on websites, but then disappoint in real life. This one looks incredible on the website... then lives up to it in real life, and then some. I make sure to go out at least once a year to play 36 holes. So I have probably played over 200 courses in my lifetime, and this is my favorite of them all. A true player's course, full of subtleties that can only be appreciated by good golfers. Every single hole is unique, there's not one single throwaway hole out of the 18. Every par 3 is an absolute gem, and it has 4 of the most interesting par 5's you've ever seen. This is not meant to shortchange the par 4's, which are also all very different and challenging. As beautiful as this course is, the greens are where the men are separated from the boys at the Crump. And if you're not in the correct section of the green with your approach, good luck 2-putting. It's as true a test of golfing ability as you'll find in New England. If you can break 80 here, you can probably shoot even par anywhere else. And for such a spectacular course, the people that work there are incredibly friendly and low-key. I've been to countless courses in New England (e.g. Wachusett and Shaker Hills) that can't hold a candle to Crump, where the uppity staff acts as if they're running Augusta. You get none of that arrogance here. The staff is as charming as the course. There is really only one thing I would add to improve the experience. GPS carts. There are several partially blind shots where it would really help out, especially regarding approach shots to elevated greens. The greens all have their own unique shape and if you don't know them, it's near impossible to know where to put the ball on the approach. So if you want to see a course you'll never forget, take the drive out to Bernardston and check it out. If you don't instantly fall in love with this course (especially in the fall where the foliage is simply phenomenal), you should find another sport. Lastly, a few words of warning... 1. Don't try to walk this course in the summer heat. I did it once, but will never do it again. Take a cart. 2. This course is geared towards very good golfers. I'd say if you're above a 15 handicap, do not torture yourself trying to play this course. read more

I have always been a big fan of Crumpin Fox, until my last visit. I have regarded Crumpin as the course to judge others by, but now, they have really lowered that bar :-( It started out, like every other Great Day at The Crump, the workers in the Pro Shop were very friendly, we checked in with the starter, again very friendly, we had about 20 minutes before we were do to tee off, so we decided to get something cold to drink (Aug 10th, Mid 80's), well hard to believe, but Zeke's (clubhouse resturaunt) was closed, we figured ok, must be a cart person out on the course. This is when the Big Letdown really begins, we play Crumpin because we expect for the Money it should be in pristine condition (Wrong), right off the bat, we noticed how wet the course was (strange, since hardly any rain in the past week), bunkers were not manicured & lots of areas of fairways that were in need of attention, a really huge Disapointment! We were a Threesome, following a twosome, who was following a Very Slow threesome, No Ranger was around to address the pace of play. On the eighth hole (Signature Hole, Par 5) we had 4 groups on the hole. When we were clear, we hit our Tee Shots, go to our balls & wait till its clear to hit our second shots, (twosome in front of us is still in the fairway) & the threesome behind us decides to tee off, because they are upset about waiting (yes, they are members at Crumpin), this really got me fire up, 8 holes, No Ranger, No Beverage Cart & now people are hitting into us, This is not what you should expect from a course of this caliber! We stopped at the turn, so the Jerks behind us could go thru & grabbed some hot dogs & iced teas. (Worst golf course hot dog, I've ever had!!!!) This has got to get better, doesn't it? We head to the 10th tee & start the back nine, same wet conditions, same unkempt sand traps, same spotty issues with some fairways, but at least no Jerks behind us. Finally 12th hole & we see the beverage cart, again another very nice person, just too little, too late! We finished our round & would normally have a meal at the course, but decided, none of us wanted to give Crumpin Fox another penny on this day. I emailed the course when I got home, to vent my frustrations, but did not even get a reply, which made things even worse. Do I really want to go back, when we get treated like this??????? read more

Today I had a great experience at the crump. No sooner than I pulled into the parking lot a wonderful man pulled up in a golf cart and told me it was mine. Sadly I don't remember his name but he made me feel so welcome. When I had called to the club house to get a tee time, I informed them my father had just passed and I just wanted to not think about it by playing golf. They worked me right in and made me feel that they thought it was important. I played a poor round of golf. I ended up with a threesome that was so funny I forgot my problems. I love the crump. They know how to produce a high quality golf experience. They are highly rated for a reason. The course is in perfect condition. They make me wish I was a better golfer. But they never make me feel like I'm not a good golfer. They are great. The carts are the best I've ever used. And the course is great. You should play golf here. You will not be disappointed. read more

I recently had a chance to visit this golf course and play the course with friends. Several people had told us that this course is very difficult and to bring allot of golf balls. The course itself is a beautiful course and is mostly in great shape. There are several areas that are narrow and there is allot of water. Though if you play smart and stick to the outline of the course, you can play well. Some of the concerns that I had about the course, there were allot of wet areas. I understand that they recently experienced a few rain storms but a course of this type should drain well and not have so many wet areas. The price of which to play is a little on the high side; the cost with a cart if $95 on the weekends. The carts did not have GPS and struggled at times to move around. We also experienced a starter who was less than friendly; especially when there was no one around on the course; we didnt see anyone on the course until the 7th hole. There are many other courses around at a better price and similar quality; this course was nice to experience once. read more

This course is extremely challenging. Elevated greens. Unforgiving if you miss off the tee. But a pure golf experience. This is the Pine Valley of New England. Crumpin Fox has a tremendous layout and variety of terrain. No hole is similar, an incredible piece of property and excellent design by Roger Rulewich. They have recently hired a new superintendent who I think is off to a great start. They have opened several of the tee shots by removing trees that have grown in over the years. The staff here is extremely friendly and Zeke's Grill is also a great spot to get lunch / dinner before or after your round. The experience relative to the price of greens fee cant be beat. Our Foursome booked our tee time as far in advance as we could to reserve the Golf Boards they have available. Upon arrival we checked in with the pro shop to find out only two of the four golf boards reserved were available. One was out on the course and one was dead in the basement. Of the two that were available one of the batteries was running on low therefore went extremely slow. After discussion with the pro shop we were credited appropriately for our round however we all drove hours for the purpose of playing the course on the golf boards. The course does not have any good system to reserve the boards and i strong do not recommend going if you have to travel a far distance in fear they won't be available. 1 star as the experience was sub par. read more

The course is in the usual awesome shape. Waiting all day behind 3 women, who were members, was a complete downer. The starter actually held is at 10 tee until the ladies were heading to 11. Been playing at Crumpin Fox for 10+ years. Was a member for a few of those years. In previous years the course conditions have always been pristine and the pro shop staff were always friendly and knowledgeable. This past winter there was a falling out with the head pro (Mike Z who has moved on to Crestview CC) and the head greenskeeper. The new pro shop staff doesn't have a clue and the course conditions are not up to Crump standards I've come to expect. The greens are rolling pretty well, but it's very dried out and some areas of certain greens have been lost (#6 in particular). The Father's Day tournament was run poorly at best which was too bad. The course itself remains as one of the best layouts and challenges I've ever played. It's a 2nd shot golf course that penalizes poor approach shots. Pace of play has always been an issue that I've been willing to accept. Plan on 5 hours to go around. I hope the staff is able to get a hold of the course and their etiquette/friendliness/knowledge or it could mean bad things for Crump. read more

I literally made a Yelp account so I could write this review. It all started 2 weeks before my round when I called and "reserved" the 4 Golf Boards the course has. This is literally the only reason the 4 of us ventured almost 2 hours to Crumpin Fox. When we arrived, we were nonchalantly informed that they only had 2 boards for us. When I explained that wasn't ok and we came out specifically for the boards, they gave us our rounds for half off...$70 I think. That means it would've been a $140 round. The course is challenging no doubt, hardest I've played in a long time, but half the greens were shaggy, and the other half had burn spots. On top of this, the starter spent 10 minute talking our ears off about how great the course is yada yada yada, he then stopped us 3 holes later for another 5 minutes to tell us how he likes to listen to salsa music, immediately after he asked us to speed things up...after slowing us down...when we had a threesome in front of us and twosome behind us...it made absolutely no sense. In other words...it's not a $140 round of golf, not even close. Back to the Golf Boards, they assured us they would have the other two boards charged up for us at the turn. Well guess what, when we got to the turn, the boards were somewhere out on the course. We later found out that the assistant pro gave our boards to some members who were pissed at him and didn't really care how much that pissed us off or ruined our round or that we drove 2 hours for these things. I needed to buy balls because I only came with a few and that course is HARD. The guy behind the counter offered to give me dozen of NXT Tours for half price...$36. Uhhh....is this guy trying to tell me a dozen NXT Tours cost $72?!?!?! Am I taking crazy pills? So, the four of us switched places, I went from a golf cart to a golf board for what should've been a very fun and exciting back nine. Oh guess what, the battery was just about dead. So the Golf Board that is supposed to go 12 MPH went 3. It was barely able to make it up hills and completely sucked. At the end, they gave us $15 worth of food per guy at their bar but the damage was done and we didn't drive 2 hours for free shitty nachos (they really were shitty, the cheese wasn't even melted). I wouldn't give it 0 stars though if that were possible because I did have the best bloody Mary of my life and the bartender was a doll. Half decent course which is VERY challenging, unfortunately it's being managed by morons. Play at your own risk. read more

Best golf course I have played in New England. It is more expensive than many in the area but more than worth the price. Every hole challenges you and rewards a good shot but at the same time, nearly every hole penalizes you if you hit right or left - you must not go wayward or risk losing a ball in the woods. Not for the novice golfer but if you are looking for a challenge, Crumpin Fox is the place to play. read more
