Probably the best thing you can say about our original furniture is that it was eclectic. More truthfully, it simply didn't really look that great, pretty much a "before" project on what you'd see on HGTV. Once Vanessa and Michelle got through with it, the interior of the house was totally transformed. The first step was Vanessa came through the house with her contractor, Arlin, and recommended changes to be made, including updating ceiling fans, light fixtures, installing recessed lights, etc. We didn't do everything she recommended but we did most. Vanessa coordinated all of the contracting work done by Arlin and his team, and provided all the quotes. The prices for the various jobs were very competitive, generally cheaper than other estimates I received from other contractors. The bottom line is that the results speak for themselves. We received multiple offers and sold the house for $110K over list within 5 days for the highest price ever sold in our neighborhood. I couldn't have asked for much more than that. The pictures speak for themselves but I will mention a few things of special note. First, we had representatives from 3 different companies come to our house and quote. Anabella impressed us immediately with her comments and also that she did a walk-through of the house making a video, essentially making notes for herself, and perhaps her co-workers, about what might be brought in and where it should be placed. (Our movers had already taken our furniture away so it was perhaps easier working with an empty space.) Second, this company was slightly cheaper than the other two for the first month but the real difference is what happens if your house is not under contract after a month and you want to keep the furniture for a second month. The other two companies forced you to make a decision in advance as to whether you choose a one-month, or a two-month, contract. How can you know in advance how fast your house will sell. If you took the one-month option, keeping it longer was expensive, though I can't recall exactly how much. In the case of Staging Design DC, there is no need to guess in advance. If you have not sold your property, just tell them you need the furniture longer and it is 20% extra per month. Third, a really clever visual change was to arrange the living room furniture in a U-shape with the open end of the U facing toward the entry. It made the room seem significantly larger. We had a TV against the wall and the "U" the other way around so when you entered, you first saw the back of a chair. Fourth, a minor thing perhaps but the things they hung on the wall generally used hooks that were already there but they were all light so only small hooks were needed. One of the other companies wanted to hang a mirror. Mirrors of any size are heavy and so need a large drywall anchor to secure them which might be unsightly once the mirror is gone. You would have to hang something else there to cover it. When my wife first saw the house as the installation was being completed, she gasped and said, "I'm so happy!". You will be too.

She let us have a few extra days while we tried to work things out and did not add to the pressure. We ended up needing to extend another month and the fee for the extension was very reasonable.

We had a pleasant, professional, and flawless experience from start to finish. The second-best part was that Ray's crew started on time and finished within the three-week schedule - amazing! This was a massive job - starting with knocking out walls to open up the kitchen and enlarge storage space, removing false fronts at the ceiling to allow ceiling height cabinets, and shifting appliances to provide a more natural workflow for cooking. Then sanding, priming, and painting the walls and trim and refinishing the hardwood floor. A total kitchen makeover. Ray worked with us patiently and provided objective guidance as we selected our cabinets, countertops, and all of the bright-work. He developed design plans where we could see different attributes of the cabinets and changes to the workflow - and made changes in real time. Ray was also quick to point out the advantages and disadvantages of different cabinet manufacturers and countertop components. From the outside, Floors & Kitchens looks small, but Ray has a wide variety of kitchen cabinets and flooring, and can get products from anywhere. I would not go anywhere else for ultra-high quality kitchen remodeling and re-design. I paid a very reasonable price for truly top-notch work - and that's a combination that is hard to find anywhere.

I ordered all my flooring a month in advance and was told no problem for my target installation dates. I stressed that timing was crucial since it was a full renovation and the floors would be the last piece before I moved in. I literally booked the movers based on our agreed upon timeframe. When I called to confirm that everything was on track, oh yeah one of the floors I selected was out of stock, come reselect. I was reassured that the time frame was no problem. I called again the week before to give hard dates, and now there are issues. When I reminded him this was not an option, we agreed to have two of the three levels installed, causal flooring in the basement, carpet on the third floor and stairs, with the hardwood on the main level being pushed a few days. The installation of engineered flooring in the basement is not great, the flooring is not tight, the carpet installation was fine. The main floor hardwood was a nightmare. They got to the end and found a problem that meant they needed to pull some of it up and "level" the subfloor. According to the owner it would be an extra $500 and they would level the subfloor with new plywood, etc. they were supposed to do this work the day before the movers, they no showed. Then they were supposed to do it the morning of the move, they showed up saw workers in the kitchen and left to comeback in the afternoon. That meant they had my floor open while the movers were trying to get furniture in. Their fix was cutting the plywood, literally hacking at the floor joists ( there were chunks of wood in my storeroom underneath) and putting back the old plywood. Of course there was not enough flooring to complete the job so it was almost another month before the job was finished. I also pointed out the excessive use of nails on the step edges, the owner told be they would fill them and I would not notice. He lied.

Tony showed up 30 minutes late without a call or text to let us know he'd be delayed. From the start, his demeanor came across as patronizing and dismissive -- particularly toward me as a woman. When he asked what kind of newel posts for the stairs I wanted and I replied "square," he snapped, raising his voice, "NO, I'm talking about the posts." I then showed him a picture -- of square posts -- which made it clear I knew exactly what I was referring to. As a professional engineer living in an affluent area, I was genuinely shocked by his tone and attitude. The contrast between how he spoke to my husband versus how he spoke to me was noticeable and uncomfortable. His behavior came across as misogynistic and condescending to me as a woman, which has no place in a professional design consultation. Later, when scheduling our design review, we told him we could come to their Sterling office three weeks from that day -- the soonest we were available. He snapped again, criticizing that timeframe as "too far away." Yet on the day of the appointment, after we'd planned our day and were preparing to drive an hour to Sterling, he called just 10 minutes before our appointment to say he couldn't make it. Lastly, he came to take measurements and took minimal measurements. We've had multiple quotes from other companies. Tony had the nerve to ask us for a floor plan, rather than taking physical measurements like he was supposed to. He must have realized this later - canceling our appointment to view the renderings of our project on our appointment day given how ill prepared he was. Between the unprofessional communication, attitude, and lack of respect for our time, this was one of the most unpleasant experiences we've had with a home design company. I initially scheduled the consultation because I liked their Instagram designs and frequent ads, but this interaction made it clear that great marketing doesn't equal great service. EA Home Designs should reconsider who they send out to represent their brand -- especially for projects worth $50K and up. Respect and professionalism matter. We will be taking our business elsewhere. We really were hoping they'd be the one stop shop for all of our home projects.
