It's unfortunate that I find it necessary to only rate 2 stars, because when I called for service…read moreBrian @ West End Electric Heating and Cooling promptly dispatched and fixed the problem. I will state that they are prompt, competent and courteous. The problem was with the bill, When I called I (at exactly 1:18pm) I was quoted a job price between $200 - $300 based on an hourly rate of $70/hr for labor... + parts. (I would reasonably assume this would include a trip charge for time to the job site). Brian called me back from the job site (at exactly 1:49pm) to let me know that he was onsite and while the fix required replacing 2 parts, they were not the parts we had originally assumed.... He only had 1 part on his truck and had to pick up the 2nd part. The next time I heard from Brian was at exactly 3:00pm telling me the job was finished, that I owed $300, and of that $70 was for parts. I told him to send me a bill in which he included a breakdown as follows: Parts & Labor $265 7% Tax & Credit Card Reader Fee $34.95 TOTAL $300.00 Based on the discussion(s) and quote he provided, I felt I had been overcharged in several ways...... Parts @ $70 (30% higher than other local plumbers, but I am not disputing this) Labor 1.5 Hrs including travel time to the job, as well as travel time to pick up the additional part he did not have on his truck (verified by phone records) @ 70/hr = $122.50 Tax at the above rate = $13.48 2.9% upcharge (standard rate) for paying by Credit Card $5.97 Total should have been $211.95 I spoke with Brian about this discrepancy, and his explanation was that * In addition to installing the 2 thermostats for an electric water heater, he had to install "new hangers" to hold the parts in place...... * The Credit Card Fee was 5% * I was being charged for the additional travel time back to his home after completing the job. * Since the price was within the parameters of the estimate he provided, it was legitimate, even though the estimate was a range based on the length of time required to perform the work. As I stated above, while the work was performed in a timely and (I believe in a proper manner), I was overcharged $90 for this job, and would warn that you should be careful dealing with this company for that reason.
