Working out with Stacey has changed my life! I have tried a million diets and workout fads, I have a tough relationship with food and was fed up when I came to Stacey through a referral. From the very first call we had I knew she was going to be different. She was so supportive in our first called that I decided to sign up for her summer strength class. That decision has had such a huge impact on my life and how I show up and I'm so glad that I made it. Not only do I feel supported no matter what with Stacey but the effects of these workouts are showing up in ways that I could not have imagined. I found Stacey in late 2017 when one of my neighbors recommended her to me. I was looking for a trainer to help me get my strength back after a serious car accident that weakened me and made my favorite activities like hiking really painful and frustrating. I had done some training and lifting on my own, but was experiencing serious headaches (near-migraines) the next day every single time, so I was looking for someone to examine my form and help me get it right. It was so hard not to compare myself to what I used to be able to do before the accident, and Stacey always does such a good job of reminding me not to beat myself up like that. After about 6 weeks of working together, in early 2018 I was strong enough to take my 30lb backpack across southeast Asia, alone! I trekked up 1200 steps to Tiger Temple in 1000% humidity, thanks to her help. I felt more like myself than I had in two years. Fast forward to 2020 and I'm back at Stacey's gym after some more sickness and career changes and just trying to re-center my life and health. After one month seeing her 3 days/wk, I can already feel how much stronger I am. Standing up for long periods doesn't hurt the way it did before. I feel less angry and resentful about how my physical abilities aren't what they used to be. And I don't know what she did to me, but lately I'm actually looking forward to working out (who even am I?!). I have been working with Stacey consistently for about a year now. I LOVE working with her. She is attentive to some of my bodily issues (knees, lower back + tight shoulders) and gives me alternatives when something feels excessively hard. Stacey at ModBody Fitness helped me get ready for and through my first Ironman - 140.6 miles of swimming, biking, and running in under 17 hours. It was a 9 month long journey of laughs, sweat, and perseverance. I do mean laughs because one of the great things about working with Stacey is her positive attitude and encouraging presence. I've worked with several personal trainers. As a software guy I constantly struggle with weight and fitness. I'm also heavy and there are limitations on what I can do. In particular, I have to be careful with single-leg exercises or risk hurting my knees or glutes. In the past other trainers tried to push me too hard on a specific exercise before I was ready for it. Stacey is very conscious about these issues and is very careful to listen to feedback about how I'm feeling with a specific exercise. If it was too much, she'd have an alternative exercise to do - every time. This meant that instead of hurting myself and then months of reduced training, I was able to train at close to my peak capability the entire season. Speaking of 9 months of training - I don't think we've repeated the same workout the entire time. I love that variety. It keeps my body guessing, building, and keeps me from getting bored with routine (gym fatigue). Sometimes we'll do a hard leg day. Sometimes it will be a mix of core and upper body. I have been working out with Stacey since September 2012 but have worked with various trainers for years. Two things stand out to me about Stacey: -She has struggled with her own fitness/wellness issues and thus is extremely sensitive to others who also struggle. I have often been surprised to find that a lot of trainers aren't aware of some very common medical/physiological problems that might contribute to someone being overweight/out of shape. They can be insensitive, or worse, give bad advice. This isn't the case with Stacey. Her training is excellent and very current and most importantly, she's empathetic. -The second thing that really stands out is that she knows her stuff when it comes to training, too. Most of what we do is functional and even though you're working hard, a lot of it is actually fun. If you have any physical issues, as simple as being inflexible or even more complicated injuries, Stacey can modify exercises to ensure you can still do them and still benefit from them. The workouts she designs are creative and ever changing which I think is really key to getting fit and staying fit. Working out with Stacey is such a positive experience and though I know it may sound hokey to say, it has truly been uplifting for me. She celebrates every success and is sensitive to any struggle. Her classes are incredibly fun since she sets such a positive tone...everyone is upbeat, encouraging and welcoming. Where to begin? I have limitations from lymphedema, a side effect of the mastectomy I had from breast cancer five years ago. What makes lymphedema better? Excercise! What makes lymphedema worse, much worse? Too much exercise!!! After a couple of years of constantly overdoing the exercise and getting absolutely nowhere with my fitness goals, I found Stacey. First she talked with my physical therapist to understand what my limitations and restrictions are and then... She's been SO AMAZING!!! I haven't ONCE, not even ONCE overdone it working with her. She assesses my capacity at the beginning of each workout and makes adjustments as needed. As a result, I've made so, so, so much progress this year! I was about as low as I could get, physically and mentally, when I decided to make some changes in my life. My 65th birthday was just over a year away, I had a fast-approaching, physically challenging trip with in-shape friends scheduled, my torn rotator cuff, replaced knees, stiff, swollen ankles and arthritic hands all complained when I moved, and even my anti-depressant was failing me.... I guess I went to Stacey Sorgen, at Mod Body Fitness, looking for a miracle! It's amazing to me that, little by little, she is helping me find that miracle, and a life I can enjoy. I knew I could not face a gym full of people, whether they were fit or unfit. That's why I started looking for a trainer/coach. Stacey's complementary first session meant I had nothing to lose. The Mod Body (as in "modifications for every body"!) studio is small, but well equipped and well padded. Since I was prone to tripping over my own feet, the pads were surprisingly comforting. As soon as Stacey asked me about my health and goals, I started to relax. No assumptions!! No judgement!! She encouraged me to have my physical therapist contact her so she could design workouts that would help, not exacerbate, my issues. Then we got to work. If something was too difficult for me, she would back it up a few levels and build from there. She even had an immediate suggestion for my medication-induced dry mouth. She is just packed full of resources and knowledge! My physical therapist looked quite concerned when I told her I had started working with a trainer, but she took Stacey's card, disappeared for a bit, then came back and told me that her credentials were impressive, and I had made a good choice! That really made my day, and boosted my confidence in my own judgement! During the 6 weeks I worked with Stacey before my trip, I hit a low point, physically, following a shingles vaccination and an overloaded work schedule. I showed up for my workout anyway, not knowing how Stacey would respond. She offered a total change of pace, with a session of "gentle" yoga. WOW! It was just what my body needed. I left sweaty, but content, feeling much better than when I arrived. Fast-forward 9 weeks from my first meeting with Stacey: I just returned from 3 weeks of active travel in Europe. It was a blast! In just 6 weeks working with Stacey, I improved my stride for walking, my stamina for stair climbing, and my balance so that I didn't fall~~even hiking over rocky terrain and uneven surfaces. Best yet, I truly enjoyed myself, despite the heat, humidity, and hard work! My shoulder held up well during sea and river kayaking, plus river rafting. In fact, I had so much fun in the kayaks that I've signed up for classes this summer! Of course, after a few days of recovery for jet lag, I was right back at Mod Body today, working with Stacey towards new fitness goals for myself. As a stay-at-home dad, I have a zillion reasons to push exercise to the end of my priority list, but I also have two very precious reasons to find a way to get in shape (they are 6 months and 2 1/2 years old). Before I started working with Stacey, I had let my health and fitness lag for several years. I gained weight. I let minor injuries turn into bigger problems. My cholesterol skyrocketed. I had kind of given up on myself and my body. But, with help from my supportive and loving partner, I found my way to Stacey at ModBody Fitness. What a difference she has made in my life! I'm not running marathons or anything (just yet) but I'm feeling SO much better! Stacey has a gift for balancing tough workouts with fun. She is able to expertly modify exercises to accommodate my injuries and endurance level while still pushing me toward my limits. And she always has great advice for better managing my nutrition and improving my overall health. It's wonderful to have someone in my life who can help hold me accountable to my goals and cheer me on along the way. After only a few months, my cholesterol has dropped to acceptable levels, my injuries are healing because I'm learning how to use my body correctly and I have the energy to chase after my toddler with a baby strapped to my chest.
