His bid came in under the four other bids I gathered yet his materials quality were better than two of the others. On top of that after he measured the completed run, he dropped the price as the total length was less than I had predicted. His crew did solid work with the pedestrian and work gates though I decided to go with a higher end gate for our main entrance (from Black Barts). To this day the access road gate still sags and is difficult to open and close. A few years ago they came and built some VERY expensive simple walkway gates and an access road gate. The first thing I said is I need them to be pool code because we were saving to build a pool. The walkway gates were in the area of $900. Time after time the walkway gate would not close on its own and, in my opinion was poorly built. I do appreciate them coming to try and fix them but ultimately could not. I've had to cut some pieces to get the lock to have enough space it would close. I would not recommend them as they could solve a simple gate not closing.

Right after he was done, however, the sprinkler system stopped working!  The timer said that the sprinklers were being turned on but there was no water coming. The person who had done that work didn't know what to do and suggested that I replace the sprinkler timer for a more expensive model.  His suggestion didn't convince me, so I looked at Nextdoor.com and Yelp, and I found Phil. It only took him 10-15 minutes to find the problem: the previous guy had left a wire disconnected.  Phil's quick diagnosis for my sprinkler system troubles saved me a lot of hassles. Phil also changed a broken post on my fence; a post that had been ignored by the previous guy. Phil told me he had a lot of years of fence and gardening experience in the Bay Area. He is not only knowledgeable but also a very nice person. He charges reasonable prices. It's a blessing to have him as a neighbor.

I had my shared fence replaced in December 2023 and recently noticed some issues with the…read moreinstallation while I was working on the roof. I would have never seen this if it wasn't for the ladder and the top down view. As you can see in the photo, several screws completely missed the structural post and are just hanging in the gap. It's frustrating to see "professional" work where the hardware doesn't actually connect the fence to the support. I really expected better quality control than this. If you use them, I'd recommend double-checking the joints yourself to make sure everything is actually secured. I made the mistake of never checking until now.
