We have NEVER had a teacher we did not appreciate. As for the posts regarding bullying. . .I wonder if they are reaching out? Is the school aware of what is going on? I have had bullying issues with my child being on both ends and the school has not only contacted me immediately but helped resolve the issues, whether is be a meeting with teacher/principal, a phone call, or a sit down with other parents. They do have high turn over for principals but it has never really caused us any issues. And they do stress attendance but I cannot imagine any school not. Regular attendance helps the teacher & student build a relationship. Attendance is important!!

When school is in session they have the kids announcing the morning announcements to YELL - once again, completely ignorant of the fact they have neighbors. I've tried to call about turning the bell system off and the lady that answered was completely rude and ignored me. I have no other way to request they be respectful of their neighbors!!

I do not recommend Margaret Landell Elementary, especially if you have a high-achieving child. In…read moremy experience, instead of consistently challenging students who are ahead, the school seemed more comfortable using them to help other students. A child who is advanced deserves to be taught, stretched, and supported at their own level, not turned into an extra classroom helper. I was also disappointed by the communication. Too often, concerns were brought up in a way that felt one-sided, and it became hard to trust that situations were being handled fairly and objectively. As a parent, once trust in the communication starts breaking down, the whole school experience feels different. I have also noticed the school community feels very different than it did before. Public enrollment dropped from 700 students in 2023-24 to 662 students in 2024-25, and you can feel that change in the school's energy and parent involvement. The school fair felt much emptier than in previous years, and the overall atmosphere no longer feels like the same strong community it once did. The school may work for some families, but it was not the right environment for my child. I want my child in a place where she is both supported and challenged, where concerns are handled fairly, and where strong students are allowed to grow instead of being held back. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here.

My son has had the best teachers so far (Mc--- and B---k.) He will be starting 2nd grade here after this summer's break. The only negatives I must say is there are some rude parents here, and this is such a highly rated public school that some parents manage to bring their kids in from far away. Whereas my wife and I planned accordingly and moved from Huntington Beach back in 2010, to right across the street from Landell. And we have to pay 11K property tax annually to have our son be in this environment - but I'm sure this is synonymous with how competitive parents are these days.

I know that perfection doesn't exist, but if I had to think on the closest-to-perfection school, I would think on St. Hedwig School. I have read some of the previous reviews here, and I would like to say that, of course there will be kids who won't behave, or teachers that you won't like (for whatever reason)... and that's life! But for every kid that doesn't behave, in SHS you will find hundreds of amazing and kind kids. For very teacher who you don't agree with, there will be dozens of over-qualified, extra-nurturing, and inspiring teachers. We can only speak great things about St. Hedwig School, its staff, faculty, administrators, and its community. To name a few: we love that the kids have the possibility to enjoy reading through the Advanced Reader program, they can learn how to code, they can join the school band, and many, many other activities on a daily basis. The kids are academically challenged in a faith filled environment that prepares them for life. The only thing I would suggest to the school is to start the teaching of a second language sooner, in first grade. Currently, the kids start in sixth grade. I think the kids would benefit from starting the study of a second language earlier. If you are looking for a new school for your kid/s, stop by St. Hedwig School, ask for a tour, visit the classrooms, meet the teachers, the kids, and...Enjoy!
