Top notch B&B.
My friend and I came into Galway on a Sunday in early March, and finding the tourist office closed (something we had forgotten to consider), started walking up Forster St. We passed several B&Bs before we came to St. Jude's Lodge. I started thinking, "patron saint of lost causes" and we decided to see if they had availability despite our not having a reservation. The owner couldn't have been more gracious, and showed us two rooms and allowed us to choose. We picked the one on the basement level, with two twin beds and a full size, as he indicated it would be quieter. It was simply furnished yet spotlessly clean with a large table and three chairs in addition to an ample bathroom with a shower stall. I appreciated the coffee/tea, hot water maker, and small tv.
After a night of hitting the pubs in Galway, I can't say that our neighbors were impressed with the quiet of the basement-level floors, as I struggled with the skeleton key while my inebriated friend laughed hysterically.
The morning's breakfast was not fully appreciated by our hungover selves, but had plentiful hot food in what we were accustomed to as an Irish full breakfast, and the server who provided coffee and answered questions couldn't have been nicer.
The owner arranged for us to go on a bus tour of the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher, and the shuttle picked us up right at the door to the B&B.
Cost of the room was something like $35 USD per night for each of us, and worth it. I would return if I ever find myself in Galway again. read more
