I've been thoroughly disappointed with my experience at Nease. I graduated from the school in 03 and to be honest, not much has changed. My son is black and he is constantly targeted. He gets suspended for offenses that his white peers get a slap on the wrist. Teachers have look him in the face and asked "are you dumb". A white dean made a comment about black people and how much money we spend on shoes directly to my son. I could add so many examples, so many circumstances. He gets randomly searched for drugs! He had his head on the desk with a headache from a slight concussion he got at the football game the week before and his teacher sent him to the deans office bc she thought he was on drugs. I'm not speaking for all the teachers bc I'm sure there are a lot of great teachers but unfortunately this hasn't been my families experience. It's sad, and at this point I'm ready to move out of the community. Why invest my finances into a community where we are made to feel we don't belong? I'd rather move back to Duval where my son can go to school and not worry if being black will get him in trouble. read more
