Alright. So I am a former student of VRA, I am in 9th now, and the school was absolutely horrible. First off, they treat middle schoolers like babies and give them no freedom, which leads to them rebelling as a way to vent. The teachers can't teach, Mrs. Santinho in particular would give us enormous amounts of homework, and would tell us to write down the answers to the test the day before as a "study sheet." The administrators are terrible and honestly most of them should be fired. The worst incident at vra was the last day last year. Many people remember Kira Sass. She was an amazing child who had unfortunately gotten cancer. Her family did not want any of us to know how bad it was, so they had the school only tell us what they wanted us to know. So on the last day, apparently someone had spread rumors about Kira going into hospice. The parents specifically told the school not to spread the information, but Ms. Anzualda decided that instead of at the most telling Kira's closest friend in private, that she should tell the entire 8th grade about it. Now obviously this is a devastating thing to hear, wether you were friends with her or not, because a child that you know dying is freaky to say the least. So the right thing to do from there would be to comfort the devastated student. But Mrs. Santinho said"As a cancer survivor and as someone who has lost someone to cancer, you should not be crying. Those are crocodile tears." Mrs. Anzualda backed her up and told any crying children to go to her office. I went with a few friends, including a girl who had known Kira since she was 2 and was shocked by the news. Mrs. Anzualda had the gall to ask me if I was crying because I knew her, or because something similar had happened. She also asked one of Kira's best friends if she wanted to color or write because it helps. The entire situation was a disgusting show of how little the administration cared for us. They decided that our tears of grief for a fellow student who was a CHILD, were fake. Of course when kids cried about leaving she comforted them but all we got were a box of crayons and monotone condolences. So anyone who says vra is a nice school, they have such a caring and loving staff, can ask any of the now 9th graders about what happened and how much vra sucked. read more
