The owner, Tom, dragged out repairs for over 3 months, blamed everything but the real issue, and tried to avoid going through his insurance. He even told me to lie to Mitsubishi about a recall to avoid fixing the damage. A Car-X location has confirmed my vehicle was unsafe to drive and documented serious damage (axle throwing grease, burned mount hole, etc.). I also have additional findings from a Transmission repair shop. I chose Troy Car Care based on a Groupon and the Napa Car Care Center sign on their site, but Napa told me they've had no affiliation since 2022 -- totally misleading. I'm filing a complaint with the Illinois Attorney General. Save yourself the stress -- go somewhere reputable.

Not wanting to take a chance with a 740 mile drive ahead of me, I looked up the highest rated ASE Mechanic in the area and that was Bruce's Auto Repair. Although he was swamped with business, the owner took time to test drive my car and tighten some things up, so I could safely get back home and have my local ASE mechanic check it out. While he didn't charge me despite my protests, I'd say that by the number of cars being repaired or waiting to be repaired his rates are reasonable. A Rare Find on Route 66 -- Jack's 66 Service…read more While waiting for my oil change and tire rotation, I witnessed something I thought had gone extinct somewhere between rotary phones and $1 gas: genuine customer service. One customer brought in a part to be installed -- unfortunately, it was faulty. Instead of shrugging and charging for labor anyway (as many shops might), the team at Jack's 66 caught the problem before installation. Then, the owner himself picked up the phone and called the store where the part was purchased to help the customer get an exchange. Who does that anymore? Moments later, another customer came in with a service light for an air filter. Instead of booking an appointment and a bill, the owner grabbed his tools, walked out to the car, and checked it right there in the lot -- saving the customer both time and money. In a world where honesty in auto service feels like finding a four-leaf clover, Jack's 66 is an entire field of them. Fair, kind, and refreshingly human -- I'll definitely be back.

The problem turned out to be less than I expected and something I hadn't seen, and the bill reflected that. You can go there with confidence. I am a rarity, I guess. I usually work on my own stuff. When I hire someone, it's for lack of time, tools or facilities. That means that when I take something in to have it repaired, I know if I'm being messed with and lied to in order to pad the bill.
